the_mighty_bosh Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Am I right in thinking that the only players that we have under contact until 2013 are Cisak, Mvoto, Tarkowski, Winchester and Smith? Or has a youngster (i.e. Mellor) signed an extended deal since the start of the season? Really don't want the bulk of this squad to be taken apart but with so many uncertain futures I can see a high turnover of players in the summer. Quote

TheBigDog Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) Why not? According to some on this forum, they're all :censored:e! Apart from Wes and Simpson. FTFY. There are many on this forum who can see that we have a number of good footballers who can form the nucleus of next season's team: Cisak, Lee, Tarkowski, MVoto, Furman, Wesolowski, Adeyemi, Taylor, Simpson ... if they stay that is... What is missing is that 'magic dust' that takes the talent available and turns it into a winning team - oh and two or three smarter players to bind it all together. This is not a criticism of PD more an observation - at the moment he is still early in his managerial career and he will learn and improve given the chance. So (as stated elsewhere) over to you PD - let's see if you have that magic dust Edited January 31, 2012 by TheBigDog Quote
Hometownclub Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 IMO we have some very decent players in terms of Cisak, Lee, Furman, Wesolowski, Simpson, Taylor. The difficult part for Dickov is keeping these players at the club and then trying to improve on the rest, given our very low budget. We can't pay top dollar so will always be struggling to attract the better League 1 players who will undoubtedly get better offers from other teams at our level. Quote
Lags Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) This club always seems to shoot itself in the foot. Had Latics got to Wembley and this bunch of lads ran around with the cup the feel good factor would have seen plenty sign on. Now I ain't so sure, the final third of the season will be flat. The crowds will dwindle towards breaking point and most these players won't look back. Still absolutely gutted. We are a side that as got the idividuals that can spark a goal, however team work creates open opportunities to net, individuals score spectacular goals. Alas team goals come around like a taxi phoned up, spectacular goals is like the bus to Glasgow......once a blue moon. Edited January 31, 2012 by Lags Quote

And we have options on Marsh-Brown and Carr. Quote
Lags Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Up to now PD seems to have everyone on side including the vibe coming out of the players camp. He talks a very good talk and if he wasn't a footballer as a salemens he would have made a very good living. This close season we will find out just how good a manager he really is in terms of keeping the heart of his squad together. For it as a decent heart and needs the right players bringing in to make it beat to it's best ability. That's the mark of a good manager. Lets see just out of his current players who believes in him now. Come on PD now is your time to really step up to the plate. Quote
slystallone Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 It has the potential to be another summer merry-go-round doesn't it? And, all told - should we expect anything else from a club like us; with our budget? Glass Half Full - we have the nucleus of a decent side to build around if we can sign up the out of contract players again. If Furman, Wes, Simpson, Lee, Taylor, Diamond et all are all signed on - added to Cisak, M'Voto and the youngsters like Smith, Winchester etc, then once again - 2 or 3 decent additions as either full-time or loan deals and we have a side capable of challenging for that 6th spot if consistency can be found. Glass Half Empty - all the out of contract players leave for better deals & pastures new. We are then left with JYM, Cisak & untried kids. We'd need 10+ players to even be remotely competitive…..and a long relegation battle-season would surely beckon? I hope the Dickov factor can work its magic; and players like Simpson once again sign up for the regular football & enjoyment over wages. But, in this day and age; can we realistically expect players of 23,24,25,26 years of age not to simply walk away for a better deal rather than stay on less wages because they like PD? ……………………..see you all next season anyway! Oh when the Blues! Quote
