opinions4u
The more I see that foul on Tarkowski the more I think it was nothing short of thuggery. Straight red would have been a reaosnable outcome. Disappointed Kieran Lee didn't put the kettle on, have a brew and then curl one in to the top corner.

What the :censored: was M'voto doing for their first? Awful, awful defending and Tarkowski's not too impressed! Mellor caught out badly just before the first sending off - a bit lucky it ended with them having Lowton sent off rather than with us going 3-1 down. Great finish from Lee; I never knew he had a left foot. Class touch from Kuqi to send Reid through. I like KMB - he frightens defenders. I'm still torn between whether it was a tired attempt to control that flicked through to Roobs or the fact he actually meant it…..

everybody_loves_richard
Why is Taylor facing back towards the halfway line when Kuqi steps up for the penalty? Why not face goal and be ready for a rebound?
opinions4u
Why is Taylor facing back towards the halfway line when Kuqi steps up for the penalty? Why not face goal and be ready for a rebound? He's tricking the opposition. Look closely and you can see him sneaking a glimpse out of the corner of his eye, ready to act should the ball rebound. Honest. oafcprozac
I thought he was fouled, but even so, how soft was he? I tell you what, i'm sick to the back teeth of seeing this across football. Shielding the ball from an opponent then turning, or doing something with the ball is all well and good but we've got players trying to do this for 20 odd yards. When will referees penalise the tactic, for the obstruction it blatantly is! As for M'Voto, hoof it yer big dozy pillock, if we wanted a footballing centre-half we wouldn't have signed you. And having watched the full 90, I thought Tarky had his worst game in a while, Winchester was particularly poor but Taylor was superb and the real talisman across the full 90 minutes. Thought Mellor had a decent game too.

RobOAFC
Definitely a straight red but refs always tend to go for the second yellow. Clubs can't appeal a red if it was for two yellows. Probably why they tend to go for the second yellow.

I think it's just subject to less scrutiny, if they've only given a yellow, since it results in the sending off anyway. So, if there's any doubt at all about whether it should be yellow or red, it's an easier course of action for the ref.

If Diallo's earlier in the season was a straight red; then Lowton's "tackle" was worth 2 red cards on it's own! How the ref didn't issue a straight red for that I'll never know. As you say, it got the same end result - but that lunge was worth a straight red any day of the week.

Chris Taylor needs to ponder the benefits of his wind-up routine though. Yes, he frustrated their lad, got him booked and left Lowton so wound up he went on to commit an assault that could easily have broken Tarky's ankle. I'm not sure that would have been a reasonable outcome for niggling over who should carry the ball back to the halfway line.

I'd like to think of it the other way, he winds their defender up, the defender gets booked and 2 minutes later gets sent off, as a consequence we win. Taylor's winding up has arguably gained us 6 points this season (counting the winding up of Trotman as well). I see your point though if their lad had injured Tarky the 6 points he has gained might not compensate the number points we drop as a result of a player being injured for a prolonged period of time. It's a thin line. Not sure where it sits either. For what it's worth Chris Taylor is smart lad when it comes to gamesmanship. While it irritates the hell out of me at times he is the one who knows how and when to get brought down in order for him to feign injury when we're under the cosh. He earns a breather for a battered defence and gives us the chance to find our shape again. He distracts our opponents fans from backing their team - instead getting them to throw abuse at his gingerness. I don't underestimate the benefits of his antics. Unintended consequences could be a concern though.

Definitely. He knew exactly what he was doing. Tarky was playing really well and he just tried to take him out of the game. All the more ridiculous when Cattermole got a straight red instead of a 2nd yellow for foul and abusive language to the referee on Sunday.
