BP1960
Sorry should be 'line' not 'like'. Ryan Burns. Very impressive in this morning's youth team match against a powerful Walsall outfit. He has adapted well to his new holding central midfield role, his first touch and distribution was first class, but what I liked most was his terrific work rate. I always say skill and determination are a big factor when harnessed together, and if young Burns can keep up this standard he has a bright future. In the Wesolowski mould I would say, but probably more skilful. Edited March 10, 2012 by BP1960

How is playing for a youth team getting walloped 6-0 better for his development than being involved with the First Team? I said the moment Weso's shoulder went we have a ready made replacement, but for some reason Dickov won't throw in him. Beileve me this kid will not be out of place, reminds me of Nick Henry in a lot of ways.

I agree, except I would say he probably has more natural ability than Nick Henry, a loan spell worked wonders for Henry I suggest Latics do the same with Burns, youth or even reserve team football is no good for him at this stage. I liked today how he fought for every ball against one of the biggest youth sides I have ever seen, even when obviously hurt he got up and ran back 20 yards to retrieve the ball. As well as doing all that he was still setting up neat moves in the opponents half. PS; that Walsall number 9 has some shooting boots. Guest
Was at the game today. I think several of our team could cut it in the first team given the right set of circumstances. I was impressed with Burns, Glenn B at the back and the goal keeper. I know its 'only the youth team' but getting thumped 0-6 can't have done anyone's confidence any good. Walsall won today by being very organised, closing down quickly and creating space for each other. I hope after watching that Tony Philiskirk is going to think about a more tactical approach in the future.
Crusoe
I'm not one to assume youth players can or should try to step up under the gaze of three or four thousand fans unhappy with first team results. But on the other hand given the current patchy form of the senior squad I think it would be worth trying Burns, Belezika and others at least for twenty minutes from the bench. I'd let the loanees go (and I don't think they've been awful, just that we may as well try our own first) and be trying Mchangama and Burns as midfield backups, Belezika as a sub defender, and I pray we have some reasonable wingers and forwards waiting in the wings. Guest
I was speaking to one of the youth lads about Dickov's comments regarding call ups into the first team his reply was 'he might say he will [call up some of the youth team] but he won't, because he has his favourites'
