Latics Bi-polar Disorder

Recommended Posts

Anybody else suffering from this?

We're going to Wembley.

We might turn over Liverpool.

We've lost to Chesterfield. Twice.

We beat Sheffield United. We're going to make the play-offs.

We lost to Scunny and Yeovil. We're going down with the Dale.

Kuqi is God.

Kuqi is :censored:e.

Dickov is the Messiah. Dickov is quite average. Dickov out.

Simpson is the difference.

But we look sharper with Marsh-Brown running at Defences.

Adeyemi was brilliant. Adeyemi was anonymous.

Taylor put in a shift. Talyor should be hounded out.

Cisak is brilliant. Cisak let in a soft one.

We were brilliant against MK Dons. They dicked us 5-0 the next time we met.

Life as a Latics fan.

Don't you just love it.

End of season: 14th place.

...or to look at it another way. Many, many pundits and bookies made us solid candidates to go down this season. We're now unlikely to go down. That's an achievement.

...or to look at it yet another way. We've been underdogs in most games we've played. Mid-table ain't bad.

But the point of the post (I assume) is that what we see with Latics is a constant contradiction - they offer hope & despair - usually in the same game as shown yesteday prior to Shefki's miss at 1-1.

My friend who's a Notts County fan says they'd be nowhere near where they are if they were without their first-choice cebtral midfielders for half the season. And the same goes for many others in the division.

I think Latics have only been totally dire (eg MK Dons, Yeovil, Hartlepool) for about 6 or so games this season. That's what makes it so frustrating. So many points have been chucked away by bad luck or silly errors. It's amazing the play-offs have still been in reach - or easily could have been.

It's definitely a 'nearly season', as a season-ticket holder said recently after meeting SC, taking into account the JPT too.

Simpson and Marsh-Brown out too. Our main talisman just not finding the net as much as he expected (not PD's fault) despite his great work ethic, and - until Reid's return - having no justifiable replacement.

We now have one of the youngest teams in the league. The midfield that started at Bramall Lane PD said was the youngest in the League that day. Partly forced, partly building for the future because we can't spend loads of £ on players.

Really, given the finances, avoiding a relegation battle amid the above issues would be a successful season, certainly satisfactory!

But it's only consistency of performance that will bring the fans onside. However, I agree with PD that not sticking the ball in the net is contributing to anxiety at the back and in the stands, which is in turn leading to mistakes - and then the cycle reverts...

I think my sig pretty much puts O4u's OP in a nutshell. To put it another way, Latics promise much, sometimes achieve it, they promise sod all and achieve it on a regular basis. If we knew which Latics was going to turn up, it wouldn't be half as interesting. wink.gif
