opinions4u
Interesting implications for all football clubs here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-18965193
Laticsbiffo
Very interesting, I doubt that we will gain very much as there doesn't seem to be a police presence for 90% of our games, especially outside the ground! I can imagine Dave Whelan will be jumping for joy though as he has had a long running dispute with GMP regarding hte costs for policing games at Wigan! Ackey
If I were the old bill I'd just jack up the price for the in-ground bit to keep it breaking even! I'm all for clubs being charged - why should the tax payer cover it?

I'm all for clubs being charged - why should the tax payer cover it? Er, because that's what tax is for? Why don't we get airlines to pay for policing costs at airports or the pubs on Yorkshire St to pay for weekend town centre policing. It's their job to (amongst other things) maintain public order wherever that may be a risk.

If there were a concert taking place and additional policing costs were to be paid I'd expect the promoters to pay that?
OldhamSheridan
Does this mean the City game will be a tenner then?

If a football match is an exceptional circumstance we're in trouble given there are 46 professional games every weekend for 3/4 of the year. oafc0000
I am sure I read that our club where having a dispute with GMP over our policing costs in a similar fashion. I wonder if we are due some money back and if other clubs our. I think its right the tax payers pays for this and I wonder how many other clubs will now be due a refund AND the knock on effect to policing budgets. I'd rather have my money go to the old bill looking after my streets than pay for them to protect thugs from eachother at a meaningless game down the road! opinions4u
Doubtless the police will just gather behind the RRE, charging the football club accordingly, then relocate as and when trouble flares. Cost? The same as now!
Ackey
And I want an Austin Martin When it gets nicked and there's no one to chase it as they were lost to the cost of trying to stop dumb :censored:s knocking lumps out of each other don't blame me! Dave_Og
You can have an Austin Martin - assuming that's some market stall rip-off of an Aston Martin
HarryBosch
I'd rather have my money go to the old bill looking after my streets than pay for them to protect thugs from eachother at a meaningless game down the road! there isn't as much overtime in looking after the streets. any non-football copper will tell you it's largely an excercise in justifying their own existence. "we've recieved intelligence that there's potential for large scale organised trouble at Oldham v Rochdale" being a prime example

RobOAFC
Interesting. Agree with the fact that the club should pay for the police on land that is controlled, owned or leased by the club. But after that in the streets its the police's repsonibility there. But the club has caused there to be thousands of people around the surrounding streets. But saying that, how many times are police actually needed at football matches?
peanuts
But saying that, how many times are police actually needed at football matches? watch the amount of in stadium arrests jump now as the plod look for an excuse to increase there in ground presance
