BP1960
Is it unthinkable he should be dropped and replaced by a more attack minded player - is his backwards/sideways style of play now becoming a liability ?
beag_teeets
eh? This is about the 4th thread that I've seen this "sideways passing" grumble on. Is it that Tarky had a decent game that "sideways passing" is now the boo-boy? Take Furman out of the side and no one will win the ball back for us or give us a bit of bite in midfield. If Furman is a liability I would hate to see what a liability really looks like. One poor ball aside Furman was one of our best players last night. oafc joe
He makes one error and he's rubbis? Haha you people make me laugh - did you not see the defensive work he put in last night? He keeps his passes simple and retains the ball, which we didn't in the second half last night as we didn't get the ball to Furman, we just hoofed it anywhere

opinions4u
He's a cracking player who had a :censored: game and gave away a goal. And there are no obvious alternatives.

mikeleylandoafc
He made two mistakes last night in my opinion, apart from the horror backpass, there was a shanked cross. Thought apart from that he had a decent game. And hopefully he'll never ever make a blind backpass like that again.

Almost happened again today, his backwards/sideways passing now seems to be a liability to the team. He is no inspiration from what I have seen when the chips are down. stargazer
He had to do a awful lot of covering the centre backs , until we switched Byrne across & brought Brown on .....but he doeslook to be missing Wes badly.
BP1960
Who would you have as captain then? Good question, no one fits the bill, not even Furman, a team with no leaders - maybe that's part of the problem. shefflatic
byrne at CB, immediately bossed us and pushed us up to halfway ala Gregan and we looked a threat even from us simply moving forward another 40 yards. Byrne at CB, Brown RB will allow Croft more forward opportunities as brown can push on and overlap, creating the space as I have said from day 1 of the season - FINALLY PD has seen it which gives me some hope.!! Montano looks promising, again played with the right service around him he will do well. A left sided player with pace not to be sniffed at. If i was the boss, when fit again D Mellor would be my main midfielder, he has the build and the desire to advance forward with the ball and take players on. Furman is a defensive player as we have all now seen in the past week, so either him or channgy sit and Mellor bombs on, with the 2 ingers and Smith Simpson/Slew up top. Smith needs 4-5 FULL games to get into the swing of a PROPER game and to learn how to encounter situations and use his body to that effect. He has a role to play at our level and in our circumstances of squad - play football around him and crosses over with players piling in for the knock downs and space he creates. Not difficult - we have 12-14 good decent players who are not being coached or instructed properly - too much tactic talk and not enough common sense in the game these days from coaches and players - all seeing the prem football and thinking they can do it themselves. Keep the ball as Shez always said, get it wide to the players who have the ability, back them up with an overlap, everyone else load the box. Crusoe
I agree to a point. There's truth in that line of thinking, but: if everyone else is adhering to fads and trends to ignore them is foolish. I know this is an extreme counterexample, but if everyone else is playing false nines, christmas trees and wrong-sided wingers cutting, you can't just say "nothing wrong with W-M". Tactics evolve in response to other tactics, and you need really good, or really consistent and well-drilled, players to be able to ignore what other teams are doing. We moan when we play hoof ball when there is no target men strikers on the pitch like today! And you've forgotten the other options of, pass it forwards on the deck. opinions4u
I tend to moan when we're :censored:. If we used a successful long ball game I'd enjoy it. If we had a successful passing game I'd enjoy it. We're :censored: at both.

They had all that in Big Joe's time and before, not much tactics and fads with him, just get at the opposition and let them work out how to stop it. Ackey
I just watch Swansea make 40 odd passes without losing it doing nothing more than moving, passing in triangles and wanting the ball. I'd say not wanting the ball does us the most damage.
