A study of every inch of the country after the liberalisation of concealed weapons permits, home ownership, bigger guns etc in the 1990s after the Reps made huge gains showed that it lead to less murders, serious assaults, rapes and hot robberies. The difficulty is that you always see the victim of the gun crime, but there is no face to put to the person who wasn't killed/raped, assaulted because the criminal was afraid that Granny might blow them away. What doesn't help is arguing that the headmaster should have a huge gun to kill people who come into their school blazing. They have a problem where nutjobs see topping the school kill list as a way to achieve fame. Banning normal people from having guns will not help prevent this.
