Latics and England Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 (edited) A lot of people on here have talked about us having a stronger squad than last season(indeed, Dickov did too). Having just looked at the likely starting 11 on Sunday against the team that started at Anfield, I'm far from convinced. Here's the comparison: Bouzanis / Cisak Lee / Wabara Mvoto / Mvoto Diamond / Byrne Taylor / Grounds Adeyemi / Croft Wesolowski / Wesolowski Furman / Mchangama Scapuzzi / Baxter Simpson / Simpson Kuqi / Smith To me there is only Baxter over Scapuzzi that I would take as being stronger this time round. jimsleftfoot Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 On paper its similar at best, but due to our rubbish form, I cannot see how anyone could consider it to be better? Two of our team of last year now play in the Championship (regardless of whether they are bench warmers). Adeyemi is playing for a team higher up the table. Furman is playing in the African Nations, and Smith Vs Kuqi is a no brainer, even if the latter was out of form last year.

My team from the players from both squads around the time we played Liverpool this year and last Cisak (last year but not now) Lee (at RB) Mvoto (he's not changed) Wabara (at CB as we need his speed compared to Diamond who I prefer over Byrne for a similar reason) Grounds (LB) Morais (better than both Scapuzzi and Croft in 2012+ this jan) Furman (he's not changed much) Wes (early 2012, but Id have fixed his shoulder earlier) Taylor Baxter Kuqi Subs Bouzy (now), Diamond, Adeyemi, Youseff, Simpson (early 2012), Scapuzzi, Smith (now)
Monty Burns Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Scapuzzi had two good games for us and has done nothing anywhere else.

Having just looked at the likely starting 11 on Sunday against the team that started at Anfield, I'm far from convinced. Here's the comparison: Bouzanis / Cisak - Think Bouz will start and he's better than last season. Not too much difference between them at the moment. +1 Lee / Wabara - Lee much better -2 Mvoto / Mvoto Diamond / Byrne - Byrne is slightly better +1 Taylor / Grounds - Taylor was slightly better -1 Adeyemi / Croft - Croft is better +1 Wesolowski / Wesolowski - Is better than last year +1 Furman / Mchangama - Furman was much better -2 Scapuzzi / Baxter - Baxter is much better +2 Simpson / Simpson Kuqi / Smith - Kuqi was much better -2 To me there is only Baxter over Scapuzzi that I would take as being stronger this time round. Equals -1 overall.... Very unreliable way of working out last years team was better though...

philliggi Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 good way of looking at it though Bouzanis / Cisak - Same 0 Lee / Wabara - Lee much better -2 Mvoto / Mvoto Same 0 Diamond / Byrne - +1 Taylor / Grounds - +1 Taylor isnt a full back Adeyemi / Croft - 0 Adeyemi isnt a winger but crofts performances arnt up to scratch. same 0 Wesolowski / Wesolowski - I would actually say he is far worse than last year somehow. -1 Furman / Mchangama - -2 Scapuzzi / Baxter - +2 Simpson / Simpson not the player he was last year. -1 Kuqi / Smith - Kuqi was much better -2 so i get us at minus 4. god help us
oldhamandy1 Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Taylor played left mid, Tom A was right back Lee was left back How I see it Cisak/Bouzy same 0 Tom A/Wabara +1 Diamond/Bryne -1 M'Voto Lee/Grounds +1 Scapuzzi/Croft +1 Furman/Changy -1 Wes Taylor/Simpson -1 Simpson/Baxter +1 Kuqi/Smith -1 So equal
