NewBlue Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 After a protracted campaign in Parliament, the FA and Football League, safe-standing is in the beginning of the final stage of its introduction, where the representatives speak to the Football League clubs themselves. Latics have been a vocal advocate of the proposals. Can we expect the club to create a section at BP where it can be built? The back half of the Chaddy End looks a decent area to put it. What are people's thoughts on where it could be added or if they'd like it to be introduced at BP at all? Quote
Oafc88 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 About bloody time is all i'll say. Sad what happened at Hillsborough but standing itself wasn't the cause and seems silly to use that as the excuse to not re-introduce it! Quote
vendman Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Agreed with that post. It was the the fencing at Hillsborough that killed them not the terracing. They would all have walked away if it hadn't been there. Quote
Latics_Fanatic Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Agree with the above regarding Hillsborough. However, i would argue that the laws implemented after the Hillsborough disaster, in terms of all-seater stadia, have somewhat improved the quality and standard of stadiums. Without them, we may have been stuck with old, crumbling grounds. (Although, BP may be argued to be just that.) In my opinion, that 20 years has given a period of important change in football across England, in which behaviour at games and safety has largely improved. With this change, it is now apt that we can trial the re-introduction of a version of standing, most probably the rail seating system. Trialing this at various grounds across the country will provide an important step in the process, also having it in a big stadium (Such as Celtic Park, as they have already volunteered should the SFA let them) will be majorly important in Britain. It works in Germany, so there's no reason it can't work for us! 100% supportive, love standing at grounds. Quote
IceStationLatic Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Surely has to be a front part of the Chaddy, so the noise carries... Would imagine the lower rows of the back section of the stand would have to tweaked to stop views being hindered by the back row of the standing... Quote
LaticsEddie Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 The only time I've experienced standing is at Kidderminster last season and it was top. Would love to experience that at Boundary Park Quote
Stagger Lee Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Bring back standing in one stand only is a great idea. I suspect that the many new safety considerations might mean that the chaddy end would have to be rebuilt to allow it. Quote
Oafc88 Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 In terms of where it might go in the ground, as others have said, i think it might be the Chaddy End. Most likely be done if/when the Chaddy is renovated as planned sometime after the new stand goes up! Quote

Yeh absolutely....the Chaddy End would be the place to have a standing area and would be part of a new build. There is no way rail seats would be fitted to the Chaddy end as it stands and I think the top half would be seats and the lower portion would be rail seats. Quote
OAFC_Ryan Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 100% behind this, would love to stand at home games. Should only be a part of the Chaddy, though. Quote
oafckev Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Build new north stand, pull down main stand, build a single tiered safe standing stand where old main stand was. Happy days Quote
HarryBosch Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 I thought I read something recently about there being "no legislative appetite" for this? Quote
pukka Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 "Build new north stand, pull down main stand, build a single tiered safe standing stand where old main stand was. Happy days" I'd suggest most of the people in that stand are older (I'm an exception). Most would rather sit. My dad for example wouldn't want to go back to standing, but feels there should be a place for those that do. The Chaddy is in my opinion the best place to do it. Quote
Dave_Og Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Regardless of whether it is a good idea or not I object to the spokesman from the Football Supporters Federation claiming to speak on behalf of half a million fans. How many members do they actually have? Quote
GlossopLatic Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 The chaddy would have to become all standing if that was the case due to its structure you couldn't have half standing and half seating without completely re doing it The place where it could be easiest implemented without wholesale structural change would be the mainstand paddock. LaticsPete Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Chaddy for away fans. Still worse acoustics than RRE RRE for home fans, part seated , part standing Quote
Dave_Og Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Umm - half a million http://www.fsf.org.uk/latest-news/view/membership-join-the-fsf Good spot! Don't see them speaking on behalf of all members who are affiliated though Is anyone here actually an individual member? Quote

The main stand will be pulled down/closed pretty much straight away after the new one is up and a single tiered stand will only be built there for the reasons with the sun in winter so sticking safe standing in the new one would be the most effective solution without ripping up current seats etc. Quote

rudemedic Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 I thought I read something recently about there being "no legislative appetite" for this? You did, but just before that it was announced that a proposition for safe standing to be allowed had won the lucky dip for a private members bill hearing in parliament. I assume that had a modicum of success from this new announcement. Quote
jsslatic Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 I'm sure it would have to be the bottom half of any stand if it is mixed so if anything 'happened' people could spill onto the pitch rather than the people in the seats in front. Quote
