If Coleman was injured or went off the boil would Ingham really be up to League one football ? I would say no and we would end up using a loan player, there seems little point in bringing him in to me and you would have to question the managers motives. Or perhaps for one wage, he can get a reserve keeper and a coach, someone who can guide Coleman, which Tyson couldn't. Signing Ingham would improve match day warm up as we would have a specialist goalkeeping coach and specialist fitness coach. Last season Murray/Holden/Lockwood did the fitness warm up. So the goalkeeping coach we have, who by all accounts has done a great job can take a sideways step to accomadate an unknown coach/keeper who has spent the vast majority of his career at League 2 or below, my main gripe is if needed the guys not good enough, he couldnt secure a place in a struggling York team so what make anyone think he is good enough for us or better than we released ? He won't be doing any of the match day warm up. Managers very rarely do the pre match warm up, either. Fitness coach to do the fitness part of it, Holden to do the drills and then work with the back 4 and Ingham to work with Coleman. All seems fairly straightforward to me... Coleman is being given the chance of staking a claim for no. 1. Which is great for our youth set up as long as he's given a bit of slack from the fans. If Ingham is brought in its for emergencies - a back up to come on as sub if needed. A club our size can't afford 2 1st choices fighting for the gk position. And also to provide an experienced voice. This seems like a good way of covering an area of the squad while spending little and keeping budget for other areas. Loans always available if it doesn't work with Coleman. Twisbrogan Posted June 7, 2015 Share Posted June 7, 2015 The youth team keepers will also need a goalkeeper coach, as well as the academy lads - I'm sure there's enough coaching work to go round. With hundreds of games, including internationals, I'm sure Ingham would have a lot of knowledge & experience to pass on to compliment the coaching the likes of Coleman has already received to get him where he is. GlossopLatic Posted June 7, 2015 Share Posted June 7, 2015 Think at some point over a 50+ game season if you include cup games a young player and certainly a goalkeeper will suffer a dip in form and I would imagine when that happens we will need a stop gap keeper who can come in for 5-10 league games and can fill in in the JPT. I think Coleman was the major plus point at the end of the season and is a real prospect but I think we have to accept that given his age we will likely have to take him out of the firing line for his own long term development for a small portion of games.
