NOTE: It can take an age to get off the car parks after the match. By Rail Wigan is served by two railway stations (almost opposite each other on Wallgate), which are approximately 1.4 miles from the stadium:Wigan North Western is on the West coast main line with links to Liverpool, and Wigan Wallgate is used for regional services to Manchester, Southport and Liverpool (via Kirkby). On exiting Wigan North Western station, turn left and go down the road heading under a railway bridge. On leaving Wallgate station, turn right and go down the road passing Wigan North station on your left and then proceed under the railway bridge. It is a fairly straight walk along Robin Park Road passing the Jacob’s Well Pub (at Wigan Pier) on your left, which is said to be OK for away supporters. When you reach the site of the demolished Seven Stars hotel, you should be able to see the stadium over on your right. Either at the Seven Stars Hotel turn right and follow the locals on a shortcut along a canal to the stadium, or take the next road on the right By Bus: From Wigan Wallgate rail station, cross the road in between the two stations for the 621 bus, to the Red Robin Pub. Bus No 600 is a more frequent service and runs up to Robin Park Roundabout from the two stations, with a 5-10 Minute walk from the roundabout to the Stadium. Where to drink: The Champions Bar at the stadium is for home fans only. Away fans have been served alcohol in a marquee under the North Stand, but it is not known whether it operates in the winter. Alcohol is available inside the stadium. The traditional pub for away fans is the Red Robin, which is opposite the cinema complex only a few minutes’ walk away from the stadium. It serves food. Town centre pubs, about a 20 minute walk away, include: A Wetherspoon’s outlet called the Moon Under Water; the award-winning Anvil, which is located next to the bus station; the Berkeley on Wallgate (near the railway station), which serves ever-changing real ales and shows Sky Sports on a huge screen; and the Swan and Railway opposite North Western railway station. Walking towards the stadium, there is a pub on the left called the Orwell which welcomes well-behaved away supporters and does a special fans’ lunch, with several menu choices at excellent prices, along with competitive beer prices. The Queen’s Arms is also near the stadium and welcomes away fans, as does the Bowling Green which is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the stadium. Where to eat: Wigan is pietopia! Food on offer in the stadium includes a range of Holland’s pies and Herta hot dogs. Close to the stadium there are a Frankie & Benny’s, a Jamal Indian restaurant, a Pizza Hut and an American Diner. Unfortunately the fish & chip restaurant called Sharpy's ceased trading in January 2014. Edited February 9, 2016 by Diego_Sideburns

SavageTheBeast
Any other pubs around the ground I've found one called the old pear tree on Frog Lane but google maps seems to suggest it's a 30 minute walk
Rocky_Latic
Most will go in moon under water is guess as it's a wetherspoons and cheap. Those who want to watch Sunderland will go to the Berkeley. We might not even get a choice if the police are waiting at the station like Rotherham the other year. Cattled in to the first pub Either way. 4 quid on train from mills hill can't be sniffed at. Seems there's a fair few on
jsslatic
With the preface that I've never been to Wigan, for football or otherwise, I believe there may be some misinformation in the OP. I don't think Sharpy's is still there. That was the chippy run by the new chairman and it has gone out of business. I remember because when he was appointed I thought there was something bizarre about appointing probably the only man in the world who couldn't sell pies in Wigan. ceskylatic
Seven Stars pub just past Wigan Pier has been knocked down. Wallgate where the two train stations are has a few decent pubs on it,Berkeley,Moon Under Water and Little 15(expensive but a nice bar)are good.Swan and Railway and The Raven are typical old bloke pubs.If you like your real ales there's a new place called Wigan Central which is just on your left as you walk under the railway bridge by North West station. disjointed
Starting off in the Berkeley myself, as it is close to station and a decent meeting point. After that the world is my oyster.
