Boys in Blue
Dieng all day long for me. Stopped a lot of their attacks and made sure that Gerrard & B.Wilson had little to do. Great 3 points

Careca9
Dieng for me. Like post above he made it easier for back 2 by screening them so well but Brian Wilson a close second

leeslover
Went with Dieng also, he was excellent. Closely followed by Gerrard for me.Gerrard? He didn't do the basics and his inability to kick a ball more than 20 yards is a concern. Both Wilsons were good, as were Dieng, Palmer and Holloway
eyres_28
You know what you get with Gerrard and it's not culture on the ball. However, once again did what he's paid for and had a good game. Both Wilsons solid as ever. Dieng excellent first half and AAH was a real handful again until his bad luck. Palmer splendid on the ball and always aware of how much time he's got; excellent retention of the ball on the right in the build up for Jones' stunner. For me though Kelly edged MOM. He isn't and doesn't claim to be the world's best passer but complements Palmer superbly. He was all action today and got forward when required. His two timely defensive interventions in the second half, before and after the goal, for me were as vital to the win as the goal itself. Well played Capitano! BigMouthStrikesAgain
Dieng for me. Although still think he is a better CB than he is a CM. Think the run of games is doing his confidence the world of good. Gerrard is a massive plus in this team. His organisation has brought Timmy on leaps and bounds. Hope Holloways injury isn't a season ender. He gives us a completely different dimension. Strong, physical nuisance who holds the ball is what we need in that formation. Great 3 points yesterday. yarddog73
It's okay picking out Gerrard every fault but his biggest quality out weighs any negatives and that's his leadership and organisational skills, your Diengs and Wilsons look like lost sheep without him in there and his biggest influence on the team doesn't always have to be in playing terms, I think some people need to give their heads a bit of a wobble and remember where we were without Gerrard and how :censored: we defended as a team. TheBigDog
Definitely improved our defensive unit. But let's not forget the influence of Shirtliff and also that we kept a clean sheet at Burton without Gerrard. The one thing that baffles me about so many footballers is their inability to pass the ball. Get the basics right and look after the ball.
josh_latics
Gerrard may well be a clogger, but it's League One, and he's precisely what we need. Across his two spells, we've taken 27 points from 16 games he's played, conceded 13 and kept 7 clean sheets. He's been immense for us. To think, Gerrard and Shez were available last summer... we went for Gunning and Kelly...
rteoafc
Gerrard's organisation and leadership are so important (although there are other factors to the improved defensive record as demonstrated at Burton - presumably Shirtliff must get a lot of credit). Particularly enjoyable yesterday was Gerrard's organisation of off-pitch matters. That ball boy in front of the North Stand was under no illusions by full time... Having said that, I thought B Wilson was excellent yesterday.

Having said that, I thought B Wilson was excellent yesterday. The ball boy got a gob-full from Gerrard but aren't ball-children explicitly told not to waste time and be the same for both teams, therefore who does the ball-boy listen to, a player who is likely not to be here next season or the organiser of the ball-children? His calm down gesture to Gerrard was quite amusing and left both him and Gerrard no doubt which side the majority of the crowd were on in that debate. youngen
Yarddog, like how well we defended at Burton without Gerrard? Brian Wilson takes a lot of credit in there aswell, makes a great centre half. James Wilson doesnt even see midfielders, he just looks over their heads, awful footballer and should be made to give way to Dummigan at RB.For me Dieng was again a stand out in DM, but I would have sacrificed him for a more attack minded player when we were still 0-0. Also Mike Jones scoring a goal from a central position, must make Sheridan wonder whether thats where hes supposed to play him?
yarddog73
Burton caused us few problems granted but there is no denying the positive effect Gerrard has had, starting in his very first game at Shrewsbury where he single handedly kept them out in the last10 minutes, both Wilsons can have good games but are better players with a leader around them, Dieng has also improved since being partnered with him and has finally grown some balls to become one of our most consistent players. PlayItLivo
Sometimes in a game which you're crying out for a win, when a draw isn't good enough, you need a player to step up and produce the goods. MOTM isn't just about a 90 minute performance, it's about who can make the most crucial contribution to a match. Jones came off the bench and delivered, so he gets my vote. Their squad is full of League 1 rejects and a couple of loanees, yet their organisation has toppled many far more talented teams.
unsworthlatic
To me, there's some baffling comments on here but football is all about opinions so I guess you get completely different views. Since Gerrard has come back the turnaround in form and being defensively sound I think speaks for itself, I do however believe Shirtliff should take a lot of credit for it but for people to call Gerrard I think is harsh. He is a clogger, he is basic and when he thinks about what to do with the ball he struggles quite a bit....That said, we are in League One, we are a club who were 3rd bottom when he joined and well adrift who were leaking goals left, right and centre and he alongside Brian Wilson (my MOM) have been steady and he has also helped Dieng develop into a decent centre back too when playing alongside him in my opinion. Brian Wilson was excellent, such a great professional, not a great player, lacks pace but his work ethic and professionalism is second to none, got send on trial to Notts County, comes back, plays a bit part but never lets Oldham down! Massive credit to him! Decent team performance and for me deserved the win, possibly another goal in it seen as though Chesterfield offered absolutely nothing but 3 points nonetheless and now reach over 40. Big games coming up and I'm still not sure, would take 4 points out of next 3 games of Swindon (H) Walsall (H) Barnsley (A)
