I never understood the abuse Allott received ??

He was with us through a difficult time and always seemed to try his best, top scorer one year despite not having the natural talent. He is Oldham born and bred and since he went to Chesterfield he seems to have converted into a half decent midfielder.

I may be wrong but i dont think he "Judas" us, sold us out, or walked away did he??? Sure he was pushed, not offered a new deal but it wasnt a move for money i dont think. Went with Inness possibily January time one year?

So adding all this together i dont understand why we have given him abuse over the years? Anyone?

I agree, I dont recall him wronging the club or the fans in anyway during his first spell here or during his time at Chesterfield.

He might not have been everyones favourite player but I've been impressed by him when I've seen him play against us for Chesterfield in his more suitable midfield role.

I totally back Shez's judgement on this one and hope he is given a good welcome on his return.

I'm personally not ecstatic with this signing. I actually thought (and hoped) it was a joke when it was first mentioned on here weeks ago  .

And I honestly have to say I haven't noticed him being great at Chesterfield. Maybe I'm usually too drunk at matches to see the skills of opposition players

But.......

I do trust Shez's judgement. He has obviously been after this signing for a long time. And I know a lot of the people on here who have been saying they're pleased with it, and know that their judgements are often good ones.

I am open to him proving my misgivings wrong - I hope he does! And whatever, I will support him as a Latics player (and a fan, who wants to play for us, which is a bonus after us being shafted by non-fan players  ).

:aplayer1:

PS - I'm under the impression he got abuse because he was embarrassingly slow, lightweight and unskilled in the position he played for us first time round. I didn't abuse him, but he was a bit of a joke player. But positions change, time leads to growth as a player, and also different team mates make a huge difference!

Funny thing is I bet a large proportion of those booing him don't even remember him playing for us.

I think I've seen the light on this after reading some of the post's above. It's simple really, Scunthorpe and Blackpool got out of this division in quite a simple fashion. They were well organised at the back, had a pretty defensive midfield with, especially in Blackpool's case, one flying winger in Hoolahan. Also they had some pace up front and strikers who could finish. There wasn't much creativity through the middle of midfield at all.

Well we have signed some decent defensive players both at the back and in midfield (although I would like to see a specialist left back sign so we can go 4-4-2 if we need to), we have Taylor on the wing and Davies up front with pace and Lee Hughes, who if he still has it, should get a hat full at League 1 level.

Shez has analysed how teams got out of this division last season and followed the same model.

Allott didn't let Wellens plays in both games I saw him play this year .... says it all for me. A few said at the time they would love him back in this midfield role.

With Him, and Kalala in midfield I'm getting very excited ... this allows Macca to start coming forward more which , when he did this last season he impressed me.

Unfortunately no one else in Midfield got the chance to play football last year as everything went through Wellens and when Wellens got smubbed out (Allott the classic example) we looked clueless as everyone become to reliant on him. Yep we struggled when he was suspended but maybe more for the reason I just stated and not him himself .... also gives the chance to Taylor to learn his trade and start adding something more to wing play.

Remembering back, wasn't it his style of running that made him look a lazy player.

Admittedly as a midfielder he looks a bit different, but I await being won over.

The more I read about this, and the more I think about it, I'm quite happy about it. The only negativity I get is from people who remember him as a naff striker years ago at the club. People progress and learn things as their career moves on (P**ter last year as an example). This is going to be the year for no-nonsense Oldham. 'Ave it!

For me Allot was MOM at bp.

No.8 Allot will be on my shirt this season and next. He doesnt pussy foot around with flicks and tricks, just does his job and does it well.

As a striker he is bobbins, but as a midfielder he is good and will try all through the game.

(although i like the guy) Notice Wellens at Gresty Road, he didnt want to be there unless the ball was given to him and was walking around for parts of the game aswell as bottling challenges. If you were to ask would you rather have a great plyer who doesnt try hard enough or a good player who runs his balls off everytime he plays. What would you want?

P.S. whats going to happen to the sign at the top of the page with wellens and warne gone????

I remeber him playing for chesterfield just after he left in dowies play off season and we were 2-0 up then ratboy came alive scored one and totally destroyed us in the space of 30 mins if he can reproduce that kind of form for us then its a good signing never seen him have a bad game against us

After reading his interview on the main site, i really dont understand why he is getting abuse, hope he is given a fresh start from the crowd this season. We ever have any Mark Allott songs ?

He is back with us now and from what i have

read from what Chesterfield fans have had

to say about him going all we need to do is give

the full team are backing from 1st game to the last game!!!!

Don’t give him any abuse?!

What about all the abuse he gave us on his return visits to BP??

That is the only reason I am not very optimistic about this signing - I can just remember some of the shizzle he gave us.

Of course no one was giving him any abuse were they. They were abusing him well before he left and he got loads when he came back too. If he said things that bothered a few people, I don't care. You thought Forbes had it bad the other week didn't you? If he'd have taken the abuse Allott had, I doubt he'd have played football again, let alone returned to play for us.

Reminds me of a story with Beckham at Leeds. They were giving him abuse all afternoon. They were giving out about where his wife took various things and a song about his first child dying of cancer. That's a lot to put up with. Anyway at the end of the game, he gave them the the old v sign. Lots of Leeds fans then stayed behind to regsiter complaints with the police.

If you're going to give it out, be prepared to take some back as well.

I think its a good signing,

he has developed a lot at chesterfield.

When we played at Chesterfield mid season, he was my M.O.M and cut our midfield out of the game.

Good luck to him and I am sure he wont let anyone down.

once he puts the blue shirt on we've got to back him to the hilt, that goes with all the players.think he's going to have wellens in his back pocket when we play doncaster.ktf.

Good.

Lets get rid of this fallacy that you have to over play, and be super intricate to win this games in this division... Allott and Kalala... neat tidy, hardworking, destroy the opposition and dont waste possesion... win it, then give it to the pace of Taylor, Davies, Hughes & *new right winger to replace Liddell* to hurt the opposition.... then get the shape back and stop the opposition....

Look at the team Shez is building, it is solid as anything... if you cant score goals against us then we cant lose matches.... we shouldnt have to rely on the big players to carry us through... to often we failed to grind out results when we should ahve done.... this is totally back to the scunny model... hammer the opposition, give em no space.... solid as anything - 1-0 win thankyou very much....

This is the new latics.... smell ya later fancy dan's and overplaying... win ball, give it quick, reshape.... seem to remember that working well in the past in CM...

Did anyone say "Yard dogs....???" Well done shez - you are showing you are not scared of not making friends in the short term to ensure success in the long term...

Phew! Good to know I dont change my tune!

*except substitute Kalala for Eardley*

I have read through this, and the only negative comments were from Rocky and Oldham Sheridan, and Mad dog

To be fair, even Rocky, and Oldham Sheridan, and especially Mad dog a bit were saying that it wasn't a signing to get excited about rather than he is completely garbage. And Mad Dog definintely put the caveat that she trusted SHez.

What I can't understand is this opinion that everyone thought he was a rubbish signing, 95% roughly throught it was good, OK, or trust Shez in this post.

i must admit that the first time i heard we had signed allott i was gobsmacked.....and when i heard we had paid a few i thought the club had gone off its head....but that opinion was really stemming from his previous time as a latics striker, who couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo!!!

now he is the first name on the team sheet and im my humble opinion he should be made captain, greegan and crossley can marshal the troops from the back so to speak, but allott can provide the leadership in midfield and forward.

he has proved a lot of people wrong,me included and i hope he carrys on doing that for a long time to come.
