His predecessor as acting Chief Executive managed to stay on the board despite being wholly responsible for Chedgate, and seems to be unironically sniping from the stands about Karl’s actions, forgetting that there are a lot of Oldham fans who remember his actions better than he does. Football seems to be quite an incestuous area. Lots of talk about being football people. Personally aside from actual footballing matters I’d much rather the club have competent people than football people. You do sometimes get football people who are competent and those usually move up to better jobs. Funny how most of the competent football people at Oldham either retired or left for better jobs in the last decade or so, without being adequately replaced. There are other roles where a few months of public facing experience is useful. Incidentally isn’t the new club secretary applying to the person they are replacing? Career progression etc When Jimmy McGregor left from being Latics’ physio to go to Old Trafford was that down to “relationships “?
