Squad movements, summer 2019

Recommended Posts

With Wheater in I'd say we have a passable first XI with a 4-2-3-1:

Woods

Mills

Wheater

Stott

Iacovitti

Missilou

Sylla

Branger

Maouche

Nepomuceno

Wilson

The areas of concern for me are Branger, who has shown some ability but nowhere near enough.  Up front where I like the look of Wilson but not convinced that he's the type of player who will succeed up front on his own (funnily enough I think he would do OK alongside O'Grady or a similar type of striker).  Depth where the only player that I'd say is definitely good enough outside of the first XI is Hamer.  Iacovitti's an interesting one, he's been slated by a lot of people on here but I thought he looked OK in the games I saw him play last season.

But compared to where we were before the Wheater signing I'm far less worried.  It's a real shot in the arm.

Here's the latest list. Sounds like we might get one more in soon (this Plymouth left back on loan). Squad numbers TBC.

Ashley Smith-Brown apparently.

Argyle-supporting mate says that he's fairly decent, gets forward very well but isn't great at tracking back.  Originally at Man City and wants to move back up north.

Nah, I like Sylla and think he will continue to improve.

Do we really need 2 holding midfielders in tandem?..with 1 up front its little wonder we haven't been scoring goals against non league opposition

The idea of two holding mids is so the three in front can form a four up top when attacking. It works. It's just that we aren't doing it right haha

Thanks for keeping this list going Crusoe.  It's more accurate and up to date than the official site.  There's probably a media job going at BP if you are interested.

On second thoughts...
