Little Hitler Stewards and their slopey shoulder accomplices ...

Recommended Posts

Years ago at Bournemouth, arrived very late and turnstiles had just shut for the away end, very friendly steward said “can’t have you driving all this way and missing the game” and took me through the players entrance, down the tunnel and along the pitch to the away end!

I’ve always thought well of Bournemouth ever since!

Not kicked out but I certainly wouldn't expect them to do me any favours, moving between home ends maybe but not home to away.

But the point was, when he said he couldn't move us, he then added, that, as he knew we were 'Salford fans', we could no longer stay in the stand we were in. We were escorted out and TOLD to pay again.  Read before commenting ?

If the steward was able to get you your money back, exiting and walking round may have been an option.

As you had paid to see the match, he was not within his rights to remove you.  His only option was to walk you through to the away end.

This is just another example of how the fans have become the enemy, not the customer who is always right!

I did and still don't see why you think you were entitled to be moved.

Looking at it from a different perspective has he not demonstrated excellent initiative and shouldn’t the club be giving him a go in the commercial department? 🤷🏼‍♂️

To me part of the problem is that stewards used to be fans earning a few quid helping out on a match day

Nowadays the majority are employed by companies like Taurus and have no affinity for the Club at all

Half have no interest in Latics or in football

No idea in what being a football supporter is all about

Agree, but they're probably told the rules and just stick to them without any leeway for discretion.

Article 18 of the EFL stadium regs states:

18:  Any individual who has entered any part of the Ground designated for the use of any group of supporters to which he does not belong may be ejected from the Ground either for the purposes of his own safety or for any other reason.

However article 12 does give scope for some common sense- especially in a half full stadium. Whilst at first glance it suggests a prohibition on movement it creates the opportunity to move 'with permission'

12:  All persons entering the Ground may only occupy the seat allocated to them by their ticket and must not move from any one part of the Ground to another without the express permission or instruction of any steward, officer of the Club and/or any police officer.

As to if any of the stewards know the rules?

Now bear with, this is a long story...

I decided, after a current season hiatus - due to chairman ‘issues’  - to watch the Latics v Salford game with my two Salford supporting mates, in the Chaddy End.

Due to incredible buffoonery on my part, we ended up going thru the wrong turnstile and into the North Stand.

No problem. We’ll tell a steward and he’ll take us thru the gate.... into the Chaddy... won’t he ?

NOPE He immediately said he couldn’t do that. And now that he knew we were Salford fans we couldn’t stay there either. He then escorted us from the stand - ironically a much further distance than just taking us through the gate - and said we’d have to pay again to get in the Chaddy. Wtf.  Real customer service right there.

We then went back to the turnstile operator who, helpfully, asked a different steward to get us in the Chaddy.  Oh no. The little Hitler steward wasn’t having THAT. he shouted to the helpful steward that she was NOT  to help us at all. Then wouldn't let tell us his name and walked off.   He was really getting off on it.

We then asked the deputy steward. A Neil MYERS  who wouldn’t own the problem and said, with sloping shoulders, that he wouldn’t do anything other than sympathise. Pathetic.

We went to the ticket office, on the way asking ever so politely, to any steward if they could help. Shoulders were shrugged. No one wanted to know.

Finally, after 20 minutes stood in the ticket queue, someone took ownership and got us in after speaking to the head of security. Exactly what should have happened before.

We maintained a politeness throughout, yet were treated like criminals. Only this last guy showed any respect, and I thank him whole heartedly.

To Latics:

This guy represents OUR club. He isn't fit to do the job. WE are your lifeblood, your CUSTOMERS. Without US you are nothing.

to the little Hitler, you sir, are a twat!

This is him....in the photo above

Tracy, the trust need to take this up with the club. Unacceptable

Isn't that one for the SLO?  Or do we still not have one of those?

Can't quite tell from the photo but looks like the fella who used to arrange sponsorship for The Association of Master Bakers.

Honestly - and very apt if it's him.

I’ve just emailed him myself.

Goes a bit deeper than that. More evidence of the club holding fans in contempt.

SLO is there for day to day and operational stuff really.

I understand the beef the OP has with the stewards - seems very petty to not just let them into the away end.

I do, however, have to say that the steward on the gate of the Family Stand is absolutely great whenever we go in. I usually have my two lads and a big rucksack with me and it's a pain in the arse going through the turnstiles. The steward in question always scans our ST and opens the gate for us to make it easier for us to get in. He'll probably get binned off now for his great customer care, but him doing what he does makes me life much easier...
