latics22
Little Wembley is part of the club! The other bits built on I can live without, but we should fight for little Wembley!
singe
I'm afraid this Development Centre doesn't look up to much, and no qualification atached like non-League clubs have. https://www.tonbridgeangels.co.uk/news/tonbridge-angels-academy/311 It's got no discernable link to the club other than using the branding, (licence fee and nothing more?) more a newly set up Soccer School It's at a school in Gorton http://www.oldhamafcdc.co.uk/about-us/training/ It's on Monday, wednesday & Fridays only Guy starting it has no prior links to OAFC. https://uk.linkedin.com/in/jamescaldwellinnov8 He was previosuly a coach at Tamesdide United and Rochdale, but prior to that Hotel sales & Marketing. Very odd, can someone explain that? I mean if it was backed by Jean-Marc Gillou like previously AL venture then fair enough but this was crated in May, and generic name with an eye to expand. https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/12585350 I guess it could be backed by the owner but he hasn't got control so it seems unlikely. https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/12585350/persons-with-significant-control Just me or does it seem a bit.. EDIT just found the Rochdale Link. Seems far mroe linked to the Club, and not seperate as far as I can tell. https://www.rochdaleafcdevelopmentcentres.co.uk/manchester/development-centre/ Interesting Frank Sinclair is there, he did some work with us IIRC. hollandspies
On Monday, I put my lad forward for a trial. On Tuesday, I was emailed a link to select a date for his trial. Today, I was sent a reminder that I hadn’t replied. I read the T’s and C’s and politely declined their offer. They want £115 upfront for the first month and then £65 per month thereafter. I would also be required to buy his training and playing kit via Hummel online. it’s a good job I didn’t tell him that he’d been offered a ‘trial‘ with Latics. He would have been gutted if he’d been accepted but I had refused him a place due to the costs involved. Ah well, he’ll just have to settle for another season with Chadderton Park Lions, and hopefully continue at Latics as a match day pitch side assistant, (Ballboy) for season 2020/21. We would both be delighted with that.

Twisbrogan
Just for information, the Rochdale AFC development centre also charges for players to attend and there are many similar businesses (that aren't affiliated with clubs) that charge a similar amount to this with plenty of take up. The big sell for these is the prospect of matches against professional clubs and the hope that children will be invited back in. Also, when my son played for the 'main' OAFC academy a few years back, training kit wasn't provided and had to be bought by parents so that element of this set-up is only to be expected. The selling of 'the dream' to parents is a huge cash-cow in a number of areas in junior football and, as bad as it sounds, I don't see this set up as any worse than many that are already running (as shocking as it sounds). laticsrblue
What's happened to the previous schoolboy training sessions and teams run by Latics. Had they already been scrapped yrs ago and now replaced by this outfit?
