Potential Football League Shake-Up

Recommended Posts

Shown an interest in the pyramid? Is it me? They want to chop off the head of the pyramid and create a multi-billion pound European Super League. They want to concentrate power and even more money around themselves. This is not them being benevolent, it's very, very, very much a bribe designed to undermine the PL and open the door for their own agenda.

Barry does agree with most of us, in that Rowe can't be fitted into a system, and should be allowed to do what he does best. He also agrees that we need two experienced players in the team, because we have a lot of inexperienced kids. He can forget 'The Big Picture',  because it isn't going to happen. However, the £250m, plus 25% of TV revenue should still be part of a future agreement. I doubt it will be, as most PL clubs are pleading poverty, saying how much Covid is costing them, despite all of them spending silly money on transfers.

Watched it twice to understand what he meant when he said the EFL unanimously rejected the big picture deal and then said 71% clubs were effectively for it!

Also thought his comments about the big 6 were appalling..... Football apparently nothing without them! City are only in the big 6 because they are bankrolled by an undemocratic theocracy and Chelsea because they used dirty Russian money. He doesn't get it that youngsters in Guildford watching their beloved Liverpool (or whoever has just won the Premier league) only enriches Sky, overpaid and entitled Premier League players and their dodgy agents and does virtually nothing for the rest of the pyramid

Clearly he sees no problem in helping billionaire owners and mutil millionaire mercenaries destroy our footballing heritage (and he threw in Scotland's for good measure)

When asked about B teams and other serious issues ".... We all need to keep an open mind..."

What a great representative of a small, but once proud, community football club

It's even worse than that though.

By now, I can only imagine that Coco keeps Knacker on the board because our halfwit owner somehow thinks that Owen represents and speaks for grassroots/lower league football. So when Owen spews out these idiotic views Coco and his clueless brother are more likely to endorse them.

Or maybe to keep the heat splitting 3 ways instead of 2....

If the top 6 go off and join European super leagues, where does the Sky and other TV money go. It certainly won't be handed out to the remaining PL clubs. The whole structure would have to change. Top 6 Championship clubs promoted and so on down the pyramid. It may make football more balanced, like it used to be before the PL. The 14 PL clubs would really suffer, having to continue paying the wages they had been, without the TV money.

I'd just call the bluff of the big 6 and tell them they can go.

The novelty will soon wear off and a heriachy develop (if there isn't an inherent one prior to its formation) among the elite of this so called Super League who would soon look to take bigger tv shares etc. Cant imagine fans of Arsenal/Spurs/Chelsea, clubs i could see not being in the 'elite' if they are bottom of the league week in week out being too thrilled by the prospect.

Like a previous poster has said, and something Ive always thought, someone has got to come last.

Premier League says clubs will not back 'Project Big Picture'

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54545053

it was never going to be agreed to.

A £50m rescue package for L1 & L2 is still on the agenda.

Rescue package now agreed.

The £50m rescue package for Leagues One and Two is split into two parts - £30m will be paid to the 48 clubs as a grant based on missed gate receipts from the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.

League One clubs will receive a minimum payment of £375,000.

League Two clubs will receive a minimum payment of £250,000.

The remaining £15m will be distributed using a lost gate revenue share calculation.

A further £20m monitored grant will be provided and clubs can apply based on need. A joint Premier League and EFL panel will determine club eligibility.

Clubs receiving a monitored grant will be subject to restrictions with respect to transfer spend and player wages.

Definitely glad that there's help being given.

But what would the £250k cover for a club like us and how long for?

Probably till next spring, when most fans will be allowed into grounds.

Who should we buy? 😀

Appreciate that that remark is tongue in cheek. But this is why most people outside of football and some within, can't understand how you can plead poverty on one hand and splash the cash with the other.

Exactly.  I hope it comes with significant strings attached on what it can be used for

Mo should stuff it all into a briefcase, take it straight to Chris McCann’s gaff and beg him to come back forthwith.

Got to wonder if he's retired.  Surely he'd have found somewhere to play if he wanted to

Looking at a recent photo it appears like he's living in the USA.
