Assuming we go down..

Recommended Posts

If AL & Co are still here next season we will be well and truly fucked.

Brexit has affected their already flawed recruitment model and we already know Mo hasn’t a clue about U.K based players.

He will have very few contacts here, if any, apart from an agency, who this season, has supplied us with a conveyor belt of absolute shite which has resulted in our relegation!!

We have absolutely no future at all under AL and whatever it takes, we have to get him out!!

We will also be playing in the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup next year for the first time in our history? We could literally be playing anywhere!

Should be fun🙄

Mossley away would be a sell out.

Not quite!!

According to the Garth Dykes bible, our last non-league season in 1906/07 had us in the 1st qualifying round of the FA Cup as members of the Lancashire Combination A Division (makes NL sound exciting 😂). We beat Hyde 5-0, and went all the way through qualifiers (4th QR we beat Atherton Church after a replay!) to the 2nd round, where we lost 1-0 at home to Liverpool.

We finished as champions of the Combination and our leading goalscorer was Joe Shadbolt with 26 in 34 league games. We need another Shadbolt!

Shadbolt, now that's a proper centre forwards name.

Dig him up, he'd have still buried the missed sitters yesterday

We also entered in the qualifying round in 07/08, beating Darwen 8-1 in the 5th qualifying round.

Now there's a game I could get excited for

We've struggled in recent seasons against clubs far lower than the National League. It doesn't anger well.

Have we? Lincoln our only defeat to a non league club since South Shields in 69 I think?

That's an interesting one. The Dykes book describes that game as "Int" (?) before we beat Leeds City in the 1st round. You would have thought as we were in the 2nd Division that season we would have gone straight into the 1st round, but the rules must have been different that season.

Apparently, 36 of the 40 Div 1 & 2 teams went straight into the 1st Round. Four, including Oldham, had to go into Qualifying. A further 16 non league teams went straight into 1st Round , making 64.
Don’t ask me why but I’m sure there was a logic at the time.

Over the years, I've often thought we broadly follow the same trajectory as Luton and Oxford. Both rose through the divisions, with great cup exploits, with sank down to the NL, and now both have risen again, with Luton of the verge of the play-offs. With a change of ownership, you never know...

On another optimistic note, apart from Stockport and Wrexham being heavily subsidised, I think we'll no longer the biggest small club. We will be the biggest club, providing the club is sold and we can all return to BP. The aways games will be fun.
