It was a a first half hatrick for Norwood and a routine win for Oldham, who put four passed Tamworth. The Latics must be title contenders now, right?

Neil Adams didn't score on his 2nd Latics debut he made his second debut 12 month prior to that. He did score when we beat Port Vale 4-1 on the opening day of the 00-01 season.

Apologies @Matt, we know there is a team of you. The invite is always open for you guys to come on the pod and tell us your story.

This would be great if either of the guys would do it.

I have been on this forum for years, but it existed before I joined so would be good to hear a story around the initial start up ect.

Should do one on forums in a wider context and the peak in the early 00's. The JK Latics years. It'd be quite interesting to a niche set of regular posters.

It would be interesting.  I took part in one on fanzines & newsletters  along with Pete Mason from Beyond The Boundary and forums effectively knocked those on the head - what do you put in a newsletter when everyone who wants to know t he  news already does?

The internet knocked it on the head, rather than forums specifically. Also, standing outside Ice Station Zebra in the lashing rain for an hour before a match loses its appeal after so long.

Yeh there's no getting rid of me! Singe isn't part of the Mod team though.

The BPAS guys very kindly did invite us on to the pod, but none of us can make the time or find the motivation to be very honest with you all.  As for the story... Matt got sick of the (terrible) user interface of other forums and found a better option. Actually the same technology we use today (Invision Boards).

We had some fleeting moments of excitement - briefly the official board linked from the official website, a bunch of t-shirts and merch, threats of legal action, the tragic loss of O4U, posters of ill-repute... you know what, as you say it now there is probably a decent story in there after all. Though I expect all of you can remember the details better than I can!

I must have missed this. Do you know the episode so I can go back and find it, Dave?

Motivation? How about the chance to promote the forum and point out the benefits of an ad-free experience for a mere £3.50 a month 😃

JKLatics got done by a really bad UI update with Rivals, nobody liked it - there was a gap in the market to offer a full multi-media platform like this one with chatrooms and whatnot and it was developed almost in an evening back in 2006 on a free phpBB. I called out for some help and you guys offered to moderate - I didn't have a clue, I could manage the platform under the hood and maybe be creative enough for some content, but I didn't know what I was doing when it came to engagement or moderation.

2007 we decided to buy server space with the IPB platform + regular updates/patches, and we're stiill here today 17 years later - for better or worse. We did a lot of things like podcasts really early in the timeline, e-fanzines were great - cheap to create and easy to distribute. The merch. as Ackey has said, was an interesting venture - I seem to remember getting shafted by Latics commercial and Alan Hardy.

Loads of things have happened some I probably want to forget, some things that we should be really very proud of, many of which I can't remember.

I still feel that our idea of an annual Roger Palmer day at Latics should've taken off more than it did...

It really would be a fascinating hour, I imagine there must be a big crossover between forum users and listeners to the pod.

That's a very good point to be fair. But I think given I watch at most 3 or 4 Latics games a year (live) and can't remember my own name half the time I would be a rather meek guest, and I don't want to detract from the graft the BPAS guys put in to their show - it would be me rambling about that time we had to ban [REDACTED] for [REDACTED]. Not exactly gripping stuff!

There's some great context in there

Keith Curle looks a great appointment

Fed up of playing small clubs - like Crawley & Salford...

Wish we could get back to days of 6,000 crowd

Wish we could have a local owner

Why would anyone want to buy a lower league club

and plenty more

Worth bearing in mind how far we've come
