Dave_Og Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 I know we are the current holders of four records, three of which are not exactly sources of joy 1. The longest period without any form of success (trophy or promotion) for any club in the top 5 (probably more). Currently standing at over 33 years since the old second division championship win 2. The longest ever stay of a club in the third tier of English football. 21 years from 1997-2018. I wonder if any club currently in the third tier is anywhere near taking that one away? 3. The only former premier league club to have fallen into non-league, but Swindon seem likely to join us in having that dubious distinction soon enough 4. I believe Frankie Bunn is the only player to score 6 in a single league Cup tie We did hold the record for the longest ever stay in the second tier -1974-91 but Ipswich beat that by a year before they were relegated to L1 in 2019. Is there anything else we can lay claim to? Quote
oafcmetty Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 2. Shrewsbury since 15/16 - some way to go Quote
oafcmetty Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Apparently Barnsley were in the second tier from 1898-1932, 30 seasons in total Quote
oafcmetty Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 If we stay unbeaten in the league for the rest of the season we'll hold the record for the fewest defeats across a season. Currently 3. Quote

oafcmetty Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Yes NL. We'd also break the record for games unbeaten (30). Quote

AndyGortonsMatches Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 I wonder if any other club has ever won an English league title with a penalty in injury time on the final day ? Quote
AndyGortonsMatches Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Are there any clubs that can boast beating Man City in their last 3 outings, League (1999), Cup (2005), Friendly (2012). 1 Quote
otid Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Only winners of the Ford sporting League. I think we won every monthly prize as well as the overall thing. 2 Quote

I thought this for a long time too, until recently a Citeh supporting mate clarified that Chesterfield beat them 2-1 in the league cup in 2006. I don't think they've played each other since. I recall they lost to Doncaster on pens around that time too, although that would probably count as a draw in the record books? We could always claim to be the only team with 100% record against them this century without conceding a goal. Incidentally, it's terrifying to me that it's just shy of 20 years ago this match happened, I remember it so well!! Quote

Bobby and Bert Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 One of only 3 teams to come back from 3-0 half time deficit to win in English football league. v Peterborough. Biggest crowd for 4th tier league game v Peterborough 28thousand plus. 1962. I mentioned in an earlier post that we were 2nd in a league table for cup wins against higher league opposistion. We may now be top after beating Tranmere. Quote
JoeP Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 We've still got the 3rd highest ground above sea level... Quote
