GlossopLatic Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 (edited) I'm more worried about losing Clucas to injury than I am about him jumping ship. I don't think he would have signed if he had the intention of jumping ship so quickly, that said nothing should surprise us. I doubt there is a better midfielder in the league he might even be the best player in the national league full stop, and he's integral to our promotion hopes. Dave_Og Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I've been at Braintree's ground before for a Conf South Derby on NYD. It was dry, absolutely Baltic and with a bigger crowd than Saturday. Lost track of them but they had planned to move to a new ground the thick end of a decade ago. No idea why it fell through, my memory says the plans were well advanced. Quote

Yep, it's the addition of Clucas, along with Stones that has transformed us into a clinical machine. Before that, whilst we enjoyed a few wins we were prone to draws and I'm sure that defeat against Solihull wouldn't have happened had we played it around now. Enjoyed the pod again and thought everyone was fairly on point with their summary of the win at Braintree. I agree with the guest who pointed out Braintree were a really welcome club. They had their (extremely modest) looking operation running nicely but I don't think they had their beer tent up just for our benefit. They play Southend at home on NYD and they'll take around 1,000 there so makes sense for them to maximise on those bigger back-to-back fixtures. Good luck to them but I pray to Jah that we don't ever have to go back there. Quote

To take it further, we are in a much better position now then when he signed, so there is nothing to change the opinion he had when he arrived. In fact, he now has the potential positive argument to stay and ride the promotion wave. Quote
GlossopLatic Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 (edited) The other thing that's been mentioned Andy said about how he's fed of going to grounds like Braintree and he wants to get out of this division. Now it's easy for me to say this having not either travelled or stood in the cold and the rain yesterday.I also don't think Andy isn't being entitled believing we should be playing higher up the pyramid we should be given the stature investment and history of the club. But I refer back to the Luton Town fan who they had on a couple of years ago who basically just embrace being in the National League and being a non-league club. Embracing being a National League club does not mean that we should not aspire to be better or that we should want to stay here any longer than is necessary, I want us to get up as quickly as possible. But the reality is there are 2 places available for promotion and I reckon about 10 clubs believe they have a chance of achieving a play off spot law of averages says there is a fair chance we will be starting August 2025 in the National League. Can we say going to grounds like Bromley Barrow and Harrogate will be a massive improvement in what we see now? Clubs like Braintree are probably run by a huge number of volunteers who probably give up more time and energy than we realise which keeps football at this level alive. Who would you rather be stuck in a lift with a fan of clubs like Braintree, Wealdstone or Ebbsfleet or trapped with a borish United City or Liverpool fan regugitating what the pundits tell them? I want us to get promoted as quick as possible but while we are here I'm determined to enjoy the ride. It wouldn't surprise me in a few years in a when we are back playing the likes of Colchester Northampton and Port Vale that we look back a little fondly on playing in the National League on pitches resembling allotments, away ends like Bus Stops, and away followings to Boundary Park in the double digits being a regular thing. I'm not sure you meant that double negative. If you recall, I've been Zen. I think back to that 3-0 stuffing we got an a Tues night at Woking just before Shez left, with McGahey turning as quickly as one of Frank's steam powered traction engines, when I was saying to people around me - many of who were going berserk - just to chill out, we were safe, the rebuilding would start now. It would take time. Just be patient. I've been all those things..... but I'm now officially fed up with going to little ramshackle (proper) non-league grounds. We need to get out of it this year, for the Rothwell's sake, as much as ours. 3 Quote

There is no denying that the welcome we get from the smaller clubs in this league is superb - clubs such as Oxford City, Braintree, Forest Green (when we played them in the league) have all made us very welcome. However the thought of another season standing on five step terrace, open to the elements, watching fifth division football on something akin to a park pitch is rapidly losing its appeal. Quote
