I think this is a crucial period for the club.

We must achieve some kind of positive result at the end of next season.

Whether it's a change of management or squad we must achieve  play offs at least.

This is a time for Frank and his team to put their heads together  and come up with something good.

We had 8000 attendance at first game last year and it will be interesting to see next turn out. If we lose this fan base I can't see us getting it back.

How many Yarddogs are there. There’s 2004 and 73 on here and 68 on another forum. Or are they all the same person?

    Agreed.

I really want us to sign some pace, we are so slow in transition.

Aah, transition. The fancy 2024 name for getting the ball back. Low block and second ball, there’s another two arty farty expressions that numpty fans quote.

After Mellon’s comments post game on Saturday, bearing in mind what he said, surely there has to be a statement of some sort from the board.

We haven’t heard a whisper from DR at all and it’s about time he put fans in the picture and outlined the club’s direction/plan going forward!

A positive spin regarding next season has to be forthcoming as Mellon’s comments will no doubt have had an extremely negative effect on future season ticket sales and renewals.

Supporters around me on Saturday were generally about 50/50 on the possibility of renewing. If that’s the general feeling then a drop of even 25% would be pretty catastrophic and hinder our chances massively!

Your thread should be titled “Statement?”. You raised my hopes because I thought he’d gone!

I feel quite happy with Conlon signing and the pedigree does suggest the club's intent to build a squad capable of progressing out of this league. Credit to Mellon and his team for getting this one over the line, we now appear to have an actual, proper manager and assistant in place. I still believe promotion [without a miraculous run and set of circumstance] is not on the cards this season, however, next season could be it. 💪 :D

A miraculous run and set of circumstance? Isn’t that what is actually happening? We ARE in a playoff place now and it’s early January! I would suggest it is on the cards for this season.

When the song came out originally I wasn’t impressed by it, but once we adopted it it became indelibly associated with home games for me. To this day when I hear it I’m transported back to Boundary Park in the 70s !

I hate Mouldy Old Dough with a vengeance. It’s not the kind of song that makes you think “Yes! We’re going to win today”. We need something seriously heavy to impress the urgency to win on to the fans. My choice would be Gimme Shelter or Thunderstruck. Mouldy Old Diugh sounds so weedy.

I'm beginning to think Unsworth is here because we can't afford to get rid of him which for me solidifies my opinion that he comes to work every day without any real pressure to become better, it's almost become the David Unsworth show.

    We've got plenty of money men on the board (although you see very little of some of then these days) and they must be discussing the financial side of keeping Unsworth employed in a job he is clearly out of his depth to do, pay on the day fans is what will keep this club going and on that basis it's important, particularly at home to provide some entertainment and along with that a winning team, looking at home crowds minus away followings this season they are following a worrying trend;

    Aldershot 7342

    Halifax 7186

    Solihull 6690

    Dorking 6219

Saturday was a glorious day with no local matches higher up the pyramid due to the International break so we probably attracted a few floating fans through the gate on that number, if we say that the club already have the money from 4000 of us pay on the day revenue as dropped by about a third and over 1000 in a matter of weeks, that's got to be a huge worry moving in to the Autumn when the weather at BP will be less kind, I predict crowds will be around 5500 for the visit of Oxford in a week or two which is criminal really.

When does this become more a decision about the clubs sustainability rather than a Darren Royle vanity project? Is he stumping up the shortfall to support his mate because this incompetence will have serious implications on the clubs finances as we move forward.

Finally what's happened about listening to the fans and giving them their club back? This whole episode is now leaving a bad taste to me because frankly that's just bullshit and we now have a problem where the board are creating a situation that appears to leave them so out of touch with 95% of the fan base with no obvious reasoning for  keep Unsworth in charge, I haven't spoke to one fan who wants him so for me it is just stupidity keeping him in a job.

Personally as a minimum they should be asking him to stay at home on gardening leave and replacing him, even if it is with Murray and Adams initially because we just cant continue hemorrhaging money at the rate we are, they were happy to do that with a number of players and write off dead money that had been badly spent under his watch.

It's a fucking mess and needs sorting sharpish before the crowds drop to around 5000 that in my opinion would be negligent on the boards/owners part.

Yard dog! The actual attendance on Saturday was less than 4500. The official figures you quoted include no-shows ie season cardholders and match day tickets.

I really don't know with DU. I find him a decent guy and don't buy into he tells us lies. Every manager that ever walked the earth uses Poetic license regularly, as do board members.

I doubt DU would go for it, but what about if it proves right he's not the manager material we need but he's putting in a decent club structure it seems, make him Director of Football?. It's a downward move but could be the solution.

I get what he's trying to achieve having flexibility regarding game management, but better players in higher leagues struggle swopping about. Is this the issue? or were we really so far away club and squad wise 12 months ago?.

Director of Football? He couldn’t direct traffic!

Based on this he probably needs five wins and a couple of draws from those seven games which would put us on  22 points from 13 games to be challenging in the top half dozen, sorry but that is never going to happen, this season will just pass us by the longer we persist. We have already played near on a 7th of the season and seen precious little, improvement needs to happen yesterday.

The root of Unsworth’s problems is that he suffers from an excess of confidence and a paucity of talent and ability. It’s a dangerous combination and causing our present state of affairs. Beware an over-confident man.

It was mischievous at best but certainly fitted the description required. He's a mercenary type so might return if asked and he nothing else on.

I wouldn’t want him. He messed up when he was here previously and was responsible for getting us relegated from the Championship. We were three points from safety when he took over and he almost dismantled the team and wrecked any chance we had of staying up. No thanks.
