Was it not something similar in '94 too?  We lost to Spurs on a Thursday and drew with Norwich on the Saturday and got relegated. Penalised for FA Cup run.  And a shit pitch.

We ain't got no dogs in the fight here.  No chance of making the play-offs.  Lets not worry about who plays who when.  We've got bigger issues!

This is the National League thread, where we do talk about other clubs in the league and their issues, surely?

  2. For those who subscribe to TNT sports, programme about Tarky on later:

On at 4pm today on TNT 1, 30 mins. Might be new or might be a repeat:

Premier League: The Big Interview S23, Ep35

"Defender James Tarkowski watches footage from his early years while discussing his breakthrough at Oldham, working under Sean Dyche, and his hopes for the future at Everton"

  3. Thanks for the heads up. Just watched the match online.

Oli played central mid, defensive position mainly.

He rescued Wales at one point, using his pace to neutralise a breakaway attack.

Didn't affect the game much otherwise, but didn't do much wrong either.

Worked hard throughout, did his bit for the team, so well done.

Yes Bolton tried for years to get into 1st division but despite bigger crowds than  us we beat them to promotion thanks to Joe.

After that more recently they created massive debts and thought they could buy their way up.

They always brought a big following to BP and I was almost beaten up once walking up sheepfoot Lane, in the days of cronbie boys.

Stoke had some viscious hooligans as well.Glad things have changed.Do the Glodwick boot boys still exist??Happy days.

    Ah, fights along Sheepfoot Lane.

    Those were the days. Sigh

  5. I can't stand Bolton Wanderers.

Might have something to do with watching what still seems likes hours of Allardyce and Jones passing the ball between themselves and the goalie, in the seventies and eighties, to waste time. (Thank goodness they changed the rules.)

Also made worse by that club running up debts of over 100 million quid, whilst building a smashing ground, then appearing to get most of that written off.

Perhaps I am just jealous, really.

  6. I remember watching Alan Groves run down the wing with the ball, being marked by an opposition player.

The player must have stood on Grovesie's heel, loosening his boot.

Groves, whilst still running at pace with the ball, flicked that foot up, resulting his boot flying over his head behind him.

The player looked behind him, thinking it was the ball, breaking his stride - enabling Groves to get away from him with the ball.

    The man was a genius.

  7. Stayed in St Albans for a holiday and went to both Woking and Barnet matches. What a good decision that was!

On Tuesday night, as at a loose end, went to the NLS St Albans City v Weston Super Mare match - 10 mins walk from the hotel.

What a surprise - Dylan Fage playing for the home side! Seemed to be popular with the home fans so maybe he has found his level.

  8. Agree re the "over coaching". Think our players have been thinking about what they have been told to do instead of just getting on with playing. Pretty much a whole new squad has meant this is necessary, I suppose. I feel, however that now the side is getting settled and the players are getting to know each other, we are now playing more naturally and instinctively - to good effect.
