We have a new contender for Ridiculous Post of the Year and I'm not sure I can see either of the above being beaten.

In what other walk of life would a stand-in manager on learning he hadn't got the job he'd applied for be condemned for leaving and seeking a role elsewhere? If you want loyalty, get a dog.

I've seen agency many times not get a gig but see their role out. Says more about you that you think it's ok he left early and quit his other role.

Thommo spouted his desire to build a legacy, his connection with the club. He couldn't even stomach taking on the last game because he was throwing a tantrum.

Wankers ? Really ? They probably felt they had done enough to get the job, wanted the job and didn’t get it. When Mellon was all but confirmed they decided to leave, knowing Murray was in the position to take charge.

It would have been nice to have one more game so the fans could voice a thanks given they salvage a fuck up from Unsy.

Anyhow, we move forward with Mellon.

They sulked off. Whether they incorrectly thought they'd got the job their remit was to caretake until the new manager came in.

Both talked of their affection for the club, all nonsense.

Murray wasn't set for Saturday, his assistant was playing for Radcliffe!

you may well be right- I wasn't saying that did happen just offering a scenario in which I could imagine say Redders wanting a bit more than petrol money he might have been taking whilst helping his mate short term.

Looks more likely now they knew they hadn't got the job but................

They knew at the start of the week, they also knew the club wouldn't have Mellon in place for the FA cup game. Club hadn't planned on announcing anything until Monday. Contract only signed Friday and they'd had to rush that to get something out last week.

Both Thompson and Redfearn are absolute wankers in my book. Neither with an ounce of care about the club, the fans and the cup game.

Paul Murray proper latics cult hero.

Still doubting Thompson? Clarke about to lose 2 in a row! Wild losing again. At least we're playing football again and players seem happy.Give Tommo a chance.

We've not played football since we beat part time Oxford city.

We've since been outplayed by 2 other part time sides.

    Trash.

Yes ,if your offered a 3 year contract and allowed to lose most of 50 games as well as playing crap football then even I might apply! No wonder there is a huge interest.

Unso didn't lose most of his games but cool comment Diggle.

Being sacked would indicate that he wasn't allowed to be as shit as he was however.

I think Reid is an excellent impact sub, whether that’s enough for him I’m not sure but I think he could wreak havoc on a tired defence 60 minutes into a game. Like Thompson said they all bring something different to the table. Willoughby looked ok on Tuesday but there’s clearly more to him. If he can score 30 goals in the league below he can get 20 in this one given the chance. Nuttall looked good on Tuesday too, actually using his considerable size for once to keep the ball to good effect. Only thing that worries me with Nuttall and Norwood combination is the lack of pace . All that said 5 five strikers is a nice “problem “ to have rather than not enough .

Fake news on Willoughby and 30 goals. He scored 20 goals. 7 the season before. 27 goals in over 80 games in a part time league. Let's not go OTT.

Kurt worked hard. But if we want to fire up the league we need to get Norwood firing and scoring consistently imo. Norwood and Nuttall are different players also, Norwood works hard and is always looking to get in behind, similar to Kurt. The simple issue is, we have to many strikers.

Reid Norwood Willoughby. All goal scorers. They need someone to play off. It can't be that carthorse Fondop. Nuttall is a must unless the midfield gets a lot more creative.

Stop talking shite will you, Nuttall and Norwood was dome to death in a run of 1 win in 9, Willoughby worked hard but there's more to his game than that and for me more importantly we need the one big one quick combination, it's nothing about being a nice guy. He will know Willoughby better than anyone on here, he will have scout report after scout report and probably watched him as much as anyone so I'm happy to back his judgement over yours, he shares my view that Willoughby is the best finisher at the club, this lad is a confidence player, he needs minutes in his favoured position and then you'll see the best of him, not sure if he will start Saturday but  pretty sure it won't be Norwood/Nuttall neither.

I'd love to know how many games Norwood and Nuttall have played up top in a 442. Not many I'd wager. Aldershot was one for sure.

Willoughby needs to force his way in. Reid came on a made himself a goal. Willoughby needs to look at that, hard work isn't amazing, it's a bare minimum.

Nuttall is best foil we have, i don't think even you are thick enough to think Norwood isn't the best goalscorer. Give them service and see the results.

A number of years ago Latics appointed an experienced manager, in his mid forties, with promotions on his cv. At the time I thought that was a good appointment! It was Dave Penney.

Whoever we appoint, it'll still be a gamble.

We we're a never ending shit show at that point. We've got what most people would say is the 2nd strongest squad in the league. We just need the right conductor.

  10. 14 minutes ago, True Tic said:

Yes I was looking at their form over the last few weeks and they won’t be easy that’s for sure . Thompson seems to have his wits about him so hopefully there’ll be a decent plan. I think half the battle was just letting the squad play again rather than treat every game like chess (badly played chess)

Exactly. With our squad and a semi competent manager we should be doing to these what we did to Aldershot. It's not cocky. If we can't expect to beat York and these next 2 i assume it's a relegation battle we're in for.....

That’s a perfectly valid and well executed.

Would you feel any differently if this interim team won the next 3 on the bounce. Not only the wins but convincing performances scoring goals and not conceding.

    👍

No as we're playing shite. THE shite of this division. That will tell me nothing of the caretakers ability to get a team into a machine worthy of promotion.

The more I see Thompson and Muzza on  the touch line the clubs in safe hands on the playing side.

If the results come I’m sure we’d all be happy with that combination.

    No thanks.

We need a manager with a system and experience of winning things. We don't have time for learning on the job. These easy games will look great on any record but we need a manager who knows they can get going when things are tough.
