  1. Hold on... If its who I think it is, hasn't he featured on TV & in the national press supporting & aiding one of the UK's most notorious underworld boss?

    Glass houses n all that?

If it is who we think it is, the point I knew Newsnight was on the slide was when I saw him being interviewed on it described as an army veteran, when even the most cursory of background checks would have revealed him to be a deranged right wing loon.

  2. He looked a bit shaky 1st half and was a bit fortunate with one of their corners which he flapped at. Second half he was immense. He's a young lad, will make mistakes and have the odd horror show. Definitely got talent though and to come out with that second half performance shows some character too. Likely to be a good un given time.

  3. I know a man, recently retired, lifelong fan, season ticket holder, lived and worked in Oldham all his life, ran a local business. He'd be ideal. I'll be seeing him later and will ask. I am 99% sure he will have no intention whatsoever to get involved!

To be honest, it's a bit like the Speaker of the House of Commons isn't it, an appropriate candidate has to be dragged to the chair.

  4. To be fair, when you see the quote in context, he wasn't really comparing Ched Evans' plight to that of the Hillsborough Families. He was trying to say that Court findings can sometimes be overturned or turn out to be wrong, but did it in a very clumsy and cack-handed way. Retraction and apology sufficient in my opinion. Having said that, the point he was making was a bit of a duff one because as things stand the verdict of the Court is clear.

  5. Just read that the petition starts with

'we do not believe that ched evans has a right to work.'

Anyone who signs that needs a SERIOUS look at themaelves...your basically saying anybody who commits a crime should never work again...

No, it reads "we do believe that Ched Evans has a right to work", although I agree that it is possible to be against us signing him and not necessarily agree with the wording of the petition.

  6. His girlfriend's a tolerant type, whichever way you view his guilt!

As is her dad who is funding his continuing attempts to appeal conviction. Just one of a number of things in the story that seem bizarre to most people.

My own view is that where a footballer commits an offence, serves his punishment, and shows remorse he should be allowed to continue his career on release. On that basis I was fine with us signing Hughes. We shouldn't sign Evans though. Never shown any remorse, admittedly because he denies the offence but the club can't go behind the fact he was properly convicted. Also, even on the admitted facts, he seems like a nasty piece of work and we wouldn't want a character like that disrupting things at the moment. Any continuing Appeal/Court proceedings would also be unwelcome.

  7. Can understand disenchantment with commercialisation & costs of watching the Premier League.

Cannot understand why the response to that is to set up a new club in Greater Manchester when there are existing small clubs at every level of the pyramid crying out for support & enthusiasm.

    Don't like them.

  8.

Justice for 96 Hillsborough tribute as they started singing justice for 96 directly afterwards, why they do it in the 23rd of games i don't know

I've heard it's done in the 24th minute, i.e. when 23:00 shown on clock, as it's now 24 years since Hillsborough. After this year's anniversary it'll be done in the 25th minute and so on. Appropriate and deserves to be respected, though I did laugh when all the Liverpool fans stood up and someone shouted 'have the benefits inspectors gone home'

  9. ???

    Anyway,

Let's go :censored:ing mental. Going to be a great day out at Anfield again and if you tell me you aren't excited to go you're a liar.

The mobile phone wall of light thing - apparently it's done at Robbie Williams concerts and some Facebook people suggested we try the same thing. It made the Chron. As things turned out it proved about as popular as the oldham ultras...

  10. I'm really looking forward to that mobile phone "wall of light" thing like what happened last time...

Unfortunate that Liverpool just gone above Everton else could've sung "best team in our town, we're the best team in our town..." even if getting battered. Just have to stick with "we pay your benefits"

My heart believes in the magic of the cup, would love to sing "are you Rochdale in disguise" again, but my head says buying the Liverpool supremacy goals spread at 2.7 with sporting index might be a good bit of business.

  11. Founder members of the premier league, we're one of the big boys now. We should approach local lower division clubs like Bolton, Burnley, wigan and Blackpool to see if they want to become our feeder club.

    Or

Even though £250k is a record for a teenager, I reckon Liverpool have got a gem in Wayne heseltine. He'll be an all time legend for them for sure

  12. The other thing to bear in mind is that, if Swindon win at home to Crewe and Stevenage, then they will be safe in the Play-Offs with little to play for at Scunthorpe on the last day of the season, and every reason rest players and avoid injury before the play offs. I think 4 more points will see us safe, and I think we will get them, but it's gonna be close.

  13. Having watched Liverpool's games on MotD recently, looks like we're the only team to go to Anfield and suffer flukey deflected goal, a converted penalty, and strikes from Carrol and Downing! Perhaps we used up all the bad luck going that night leaving only good fortune for all the Prem sides who've gone there since, got battered, and come away with 3 points. Chuff.

  14. Suarez leaving to a big club that can provide "Champions" League football will probably put an end to it. Perhaps then Liverpool will realise that under King Kenny they remain a mid table club, now closer to the bottom than top (in terms of points), and haven't progressed in 3 years.

  15. I was sat in the Lookers. Hard to imagine now, but at the time United hadn't won the league for 26 years. That year it was between them and Villa for the title, and having choked the previous year United and their fans were very nervous. At the end a bloke along the row shouted out "Make the f*ckers wait another 26 years". An unfortunate by product of our victory at Villa in the Great Escape was that it handed the league title to United, and I think it would be fair to say our fortunes have diverged ever since.
