  1. Why are they read out so quickly ?.. it might be my old age, but by the time I find a player in the match programme I have missed about 6 changes, this particularly applies to the away teams which seem to me to be read out at double the speed of the home teams.

It's not just at the Latics though as it seems the norm at most grounds. :(

BP1960 - I'll make an effort to slow it down.. PA Announcers nightmare is not having finished reading everything by the time of kick off!

  2. *Deleted by Mod*[

OK - I'll bite, mainly because this is wholly inaccurate, and the only Killers song I have played is Mr Brightside... Whatever people think of my ability to do the job I don't think it can be questioned that I have listened to people with regards to music and the music has changed accordingly...

However should you wish to have an adult conversation about it then I will listen to any suggestions that you may have....

Laticsfan345 - I am not aware of any announcements you wanted doing?

  3. Lags - Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. I am pleased that the music seems to be going down well..

When I had my first season ticket, 22 years ago, and when we were good, I always remembered us coming out to "Fanfare for the Comman Man" I am hoping it will evoke some good memories!

I did wish the Bristol fans a safe but lousy journey home, but I did wish them all a very warm welcome to Boundary Park and hope that they enjoyed the day as well.... It was all meant in good spirits..

As for the shoe comment, I happen the think they are very snazzy!!! B)

On a different note, the reaction Mark Halsey got today made me proud to be a Latic, superb response, and he made a point of thanking me at half time for mentioning it, I know he was touched by the superb response he got..

As for the guy doing the Huddersfield PA, I supect he has been doing it longer than 4 games... However, not sure about the way he kept mentioning the Championship, Norwich they are not!

  4. Broady - on each post, you've just said "good suggestions, all noted etc.", for someone who knows their onions music wise, what's the chances of you actually upgrading the music list at the ground rather than just 'noting' it. not a pop, just want to know if people at the club actually listen to what the fans want. by the fact that you've actually responded to some posts which came across as being critcial of you just shows that obviously you are happy to listen - just wonder if the 'powers that be' are aswell! Cheers....and if I can suggest some bands, the Inspirals and Twisted Wheel have gotta be up there.

Dish - Cheers, as far as I know the music selection doesn't have to be approved by anyone, the 2 bands you have suggested will both be featured at Tuesdays game and were already in my thoughts as local bands with a Latics connection. For instance, I know at least 1 of The Courteeners is an Oldham fan, as they have just toured with The Whip, again, an Oldham band...

The problem with music is that it is massively subjective, we appear to have similar tastes and want to hear the same sort of things, however out of the 3,500 who regularly go this only makes up a certain percentage, some will like pop, some dance etc... However I think the main themes should be to get locals bands on there and to keep it upbeat... Thus The Inspirals and Twisted Wheel are great examples of bands to play....

I am sure the powers that be will tell me in no uncertain terms if they don't like the choices on Tuesday!!

All of todays suggestions I have written down and genuinely taken on board with the hope of getting a better matchday experience for everyone..

  5. Chaddy end speakers - have taken a real down turn this season. Can barely hear it.

    As for comments:

Let's get ready to rumble / Boys are Back in town at start of second half.....cringeworthy.

Agree - more time with the returning legends.

'"We can't here you" - embarrasing.

HT entertainment at BP is generally poor - some sort of regular competition (cross bar / penalties / youth games) or other demonstrations would be much better.

Some really good suggestions and ideas, that will be taken on board. Thank you.

With Regards to half time, I agree that we don't do anything and their should be some form of game / entertainment to warm us all up. We had the Crossbar challenge last year, are we thinking something similar? Some form of Skills school type thing? So, if anyone has any specific ideas I will happily take them to the powers that be and see if we can get something sorted.

Next Time we have a returning legend for the half time draw there will be more questions asked.

I also know the club have some new PA equipment and hopefully all will be fine on Tuesday with the speakers in The Chaddy and RRE.

  6. For what it is worth here are my views.

1, Look at the target audience - Primarily men who have their better days behind them and have no interest in jokey radio breakfast show type banta oi oi!!

2, The "music played at Boundary Park has been supplied by hmv" - can we please dip in to the bargain bucket and get something with a tune rather than insipid modern pop rubbish? Inspiral Carpets - This is How it Feels was a welcome addition to the playlist on Saturday and by jingo a few of them are from Oldham too! Was also good to hear Dominos by The Big Pink - Velvet is a better track though but Dominos is a step in the right direction. I don't see many people dressed like Lady Gaga at Boundary Park but I see a lot of people who are probably into boys with guitars, at the end of the day it is only background music but Rochdale manage to get it right. Indie and rock classics, a bit of Madchester and maybe even the odd new one by some young lads with daft haircuts but have managed to write a tune that makes you tap your foot when you're one nil up at half time.

3, A few of the people in the ground have a passing interest in sport, some even like football so score updates are a must.

4, Never, ever play the "Let's get ready to grumble" clip at the start of the second half again.

5, If we are the 12th man god help the other 11. Encouraging us to make some noise for our boys seems to have the adverse effect and is very 90s.

6, Do not let that woman from the Christie near a microphone again. Ever.

7, If one of the Latics legends comes out to do the half time draw it would be good to spend a bit of time asking him a few questions beyond what is currently asked. What are his favourite memories of his time spent here? Favourite games or any funny stories would kill a bit of time at half time.

8, Kids taking penalties at half time is always worth a watch.

9, Mouldy Old Dough has to played at some point.

10, Could get some of the youth team on the pitch doing keepie-uppies or ball skills. Maradona used to do this as a kid, we could even open it up so that if local kids want to do it they get 5 mins on the pitch or so.. might even unearth a bit of talent this way?

    Beag,

Thanks for this, I think that is a superb post and will be taken on board, constructive and helpful

    Cheers

  7. Having Done the PA on Saturday I can say that Mouldy Old Dough wasn't played as the teams came out. It was played in the build up to the game at around 2:50. The team came out to a track by The Whip called "Trash" granted not the best title for a song for chosen run out music, but it is upbeat!

Personally I think that there is a place for MOD as it is an all time Latics anthem, though I don't think it's run out music. That said hopefully Franny will have recovered from illness to be back for the Leeds game

  8. Broady, the reason i asked was that one of my mates turned on his radio whilst driving somewhere and he heard the presenter saying something along the lines of......

May we apologise on behalf of the station for anyone who was upset with what they heard. The rules for presenters are that they should be passionate but at the same time report the facts and not make personal views known. He hoped that what was said was not going to "cost someone there job".

Like i said, this has come from second hand info, i obviously wasnt listening as i was at the game but he was adamant it was the revolution he was listening to. Hope it all works out fine if it was you though.

Cheers Chaddy and Delfer, I will endevour to find out more from the Powers that be!!

  9. I don't understand why his job is in doubt with that lot.

    Morning All,

This is the first I've heard about anything being said so anyone that can enlighten me to anything said when I was off-air would be appreciated. Press facilities at Hereford were poor at best and I had to use a mobile phone so was unable to listen to the show in progress.... Pretty sure I didn't say anything that could have any legal connotations and I think that Delfer summed up what I said pretty well. As far as I know I haven't been sacked!!

For what it's worth and I said it after the game, I think it was a 1 off, remember getting thumped at Oxford during the title season, Stockport won't know whats hit them this weekend.. Keep The Faith!

  10. that's gone way downhill too.

too much southern crap on there now - the music and the presenters.

The Rev and Latics should work closer together and it looks like now we both will. I was on mobile at Swindon but we have now got some proper equipment to broadcast from grounds with, problem on saturday was that Swindon couldn't accommodate this so it was back to the mobile. Stu and Roy at Latics have helped me loads with the new stuff...

It's early days for the new Rev but I know Steve Penk and John the station manager are very keen to make it work as are Alan etc at the club... It will get better.. granted it's never going to be as good as being at the game but I know I'll give it my best shot as will all others concerned... as long as I never ever sound like Alan Green

  11. Morning, just joined the forum... Hope everyone is well and fingers crossed for 8 in a row.

Right, The Rev is covering Latics from Tomorrow,

Our show is on 2-6. Alex Carter will be in the Studio and I'll be down at the matches. We have updates, not full commentary. There will be pre-match, half time and full time reports as well.

I agree that it is about time that Latics got more coverage from the local stations, we will be promoting the club and increasing publicity and I hope that anyone who hasn't got World or can't get it and wants to know the latest will give us a chance...

Tomorrow is our first game, and aside from Gillingham on Tuesday we'll be doing every game for the rest of the season.

As for the music... you will like!
