  1. Heard a few things on the grapevine...

    - Brentford have trebled his wages (there or there abouts)

    - Tarky wanted to stay but he was forced out by Simon Corney

    - He wanted to come back and only found out after training on Friday that he'd have to go straight to Brentford

    - He only wants to play football, only interested in that, not about money or anything

    - Wanted to stay local and staying at Latics would have satisfied him in that respect

Just as a matter of interest, how do you get someone to sign a contract when they don't want to?

  2. We were ok yesterday but it's a valid point overall. There's something sad about us seeing a 1 all against Orient as a good result. It's not to say it wasn't a decent result/performance but it's an indictment of where we are as a club.

I was talking to a mate at the game about when Orient knocked us out the FA (in about 92?) and it was seen as a Giant Killing.

Things change in football but it doesn't stop it being sad.

I was at that game, freezing cold, new overcoat that didn't work, 4-2 AET - now that was sad!

  3. That's one of those absolute bull:censored: decisions, using my best south park voice "harmless retaliation is bad, much worse than serious foul play'. It's a nonsense and if it's a real rule it wants binning. Same thing happened in a game I played in yesterday, opposition player retaliated mildly, the only person on the pitch who thought he should be sent off was... the referee. Killed the game. Sometimes the law is an Ass.

  4. I actually feel bad Smith has so few votes - he played a blinder, superb in possession and won loads of 50-50's but Tarky was just immense.

I voted for Smith, as brilliant as Tarky was I didn't think he had that much defending to do, mainly because of the ball retention and closing down ahead of him. Mind you, at times it was like watching Beckenbaur with the young lad gliding through their midfield, very exciting. Smith did all the bread and butter stuff easily and doesn't seem to panic even when outnumbered.

  5. I felt this way when Simon Stainrod left us for QPR. His replacement was none other than Roger Palmer. I'm not saying anyone coming in (if they do) will be in his class but players come and go. We are a stronger team than this time last year. We got Jose for nothing, he was instrumental in us staying up last season, with LJ I feel the seeds of hope for the club and we got a fee for Jose.

I wish hime well (except when he plays against us), but I wish he had gone to a Championship club.

I was just thinking the very same thing regarding Stainrod. Swings and roundabouts as it always will be.

  6. I'm still playing at 51 in an all age league in far north NSW Australia. in fact, my team was the Australian amateur team of the year last season. Can't say i get done for speed that often and I've never been fast - stamina was always my thing. Lots of fat, unfit youngsters out there never mind the over 50s.

Highly recommended what ever shape you're in.

  7. Went for Tarky, swung by his performance at that age and that pass to Simpson - who did a great job of controlling it but then really should have buried it. Croft was a revelation and it was partially down to him that Brown had such a good game. His shooting? Not so good. Always pulls it left, which makes me think that the 'pass' to Obita was a shot - probably the pass to Smith against Liverpool also, but who's complaining ?

Grounds made just one mistake in total against both Mersyside teams, absolutely calm and reliable. Wes was a trooper but I thought Furman made a difference when he came on - lots of forward balls to feet, which came back out to the wing and then into the box.

Baxter has been a little disappointing, but only in relation to the hype, looking forward to him turning it on at Goodison.

Bloody brilliant to see us live on TV down here, looking forward to a few more instalments.
