  1. I'm quite looking forward to losing the first game of the season...always seems to be those teams that end up promoted!! :naughty:

ps. no stats to back this up just seems to happen.

Not really, at least not for champions anyway.......but playing

  2.

Its only because your handbag is nicer than mine... and I got jealous...:gorgeous:

Ok Ok! you got me - i just dont bloomin like him! His greasy hair glints in the sun, and my Mrs thinks he 'is the only good looking player who plays for oldham' ...

Funnily enough, he is my Mrs favourite player as well :ohno:

  3. Dont much like any of them!! And I will feedback my dislike to the vote. :sign0003:

Dont know how the yellow kit has got so many votes - it's awful and so is the powder blue.

Black/blue is ok-ish but too similar to the current third strip.

Burgundy is the best of a bad bunch and at least may give more outings for the blue/tangerine third kit. If I have to vote, I'd vote for this one.

As for whether we should have another new shirt, it's pretty much unavoidable these days.

  4. The reduction in atmosphere at home games (and some away games, to be honest) is something that has really got me down in recent times. I don't go to as many matches as I used to, and most of the matches I do go to are away from home. If I'm going to BP now I don't particularly look forward to it, as a good atmosphere is integral to my enjoyment of a match.

I must admit, in the last few weeks I'm starting to feel a lot more positive. Through reading OWTB it is clear that I'm not in as small a minority as I thought I was. Certainly when the new ground opens I love the idea of an OWTB section and would sit anywhere in the ground if surrounded by like-minded Latics fans who are:

    1) Positive

    2) Supportive of ALL members of the team

    3) Vocal

It's something I think we need to do, and I'm sure the club will do what it can to help.

Agreed. Feel the same way and I much prefer going to aways. The whole atmosphere thing is a problem at a lot of clubs even when they fill the ground. Really hope the new BP will help with this but it seems to be at the new grounds where the detrimental effect on atmosphere is worst.

This was supposed to be a positive thread, so all I can say is that if you are a singer, don't give in to the moaners!!

  5. I understand your thinking BigFin and I think that any decent offer for any of our players will be that much more likely to be accepted after what happened with Porter. However, if we sold these two, I doubt we would raise £1.5M at the moment and Shez aint going to see more than a few £100k to get replacements and strengthen - once we have covered some of our losses for the year/following year. Plus we have to work within the wage limit, to which we are probably pretty close.

You can generate some cash but look how the money-bags teams in this league fail to get out of it. You dont need all that much - just be strong, organised and have one or two players with that extra something. It doesnt have to cost that much - look at Hoolahoop and Morrell or Joe Murphy and even Billy Sharp.

Yes they will leave anyway, at least I think Eardley will. But lets see how much they can improve and how far they can take us in the meantime. Recent performances not so promising but give them a chance, Taylor may rediscover himself down the right and Eardley will get more confidence as the back four sort themselves out.

  6. Yes, i'm sure a player who has won cups, played in world cups and adored more or less wherever he played, will take notice of posts on here about team selection!?:unsure::huh:

Woah, seem to have missed tongue firmly placed in cheek there

  7. However, Shez said that he would like to sort something out with Dowie about taking Gidds back again when he is fit.....

Maybe i'm reading too much into this but doesnt it suggest that Shez has been reading this board and is thinking of playing Bertrand on left wing? Bertrand is here until January, why bring Gidds back when we already have cover at left back?

  8. 4 goals in 4 games.....we let 47 league goals in last year (46 games), 1 a game! Scunthorpe let in 35. We're not a million miles away at the mo defensively, as many have already stated, it's the other end we need to prioritise and get right!!

After 4 games, it's too early to make strong judgements about a defence which is still gelling and personnel are changing. Making a case based on how many goals we've scored/let in during the first 4 games is not that worthwhile.......for example, by the same token, you could argue that 6 goals in 4 games..... 1.5 goals per game is exactly equivalent to our 69 goals in 46 games from last season. So therefore we can't be too far off attacking wise. Well, I think we all know that isn't true. (Ok, I know 4 of these were only Mansfield blah blah blah.)

It's more the manner of goals we are letting in which disappoints me a bit at the moment. As I said it's too early to make strong judgements against a new team this season but I would like to see us tighten up at the back and cut the errors. There were too many in the second half of last season (by the way we let in 35 in the last 24 games), although that coincided with our worst patch and I would like to see us a lot harder to score against or make opportunities against.

I know upfront is a problem but I'm greedy - I want both sorted out. I think any team would find it difficult to finish in the top two without being defensively resolute. There aren't many teams that can be successful in a Joe Royle style. It's early days but i am already a bit concerned that we are just a bit too easy to score against / make opportunities against at the moment. How many 1-0s did Scunny get last season?

  9. Sorry, just can't see Gregan in midfield. Not mobile enough. I suppose you can't rule anything out until youve tried it but really can't see that working well. The Ricketts position I could see working better. He knocked a great ball through to Taylor from that kind of area at Carlisle - unfortunately there was noone in the box to convert Taylor's subsequent centre. Cue Mr.Hughes but don't think we can heap to much expectation or pressure on him for at least a few weeks.

I guess the original question posed in this thread could be turned on its head - how come we're not keeping clean sheets? There can't be very many since we stuffed Forest at the start of the year. Don't want to bring up the whole Gregan debate again but there's still too many soft goals going in against us and we need to stop these if we are going to be in play-off or promotion contention.
