ahem, we already have
true...but the worst thing we could do now is to come out, play as badly in the second half and lose by a cricket score...they need to pick their heads up and show the fans that have travelled that they do care!
-
they are coming out in droves our fans, what is sheridans excuse for this one. 4-0
it happens...just need to move on quickly, come out play better second half and dont embarrass ourselves

Bit of a match report. (I'm sober unlike OS). Newcastle were well deserved winners. Apart from the spell around when we scored and after they scored what turned out to be the winner, they were on top. Our goalie didn't have to make too many saves as we defended like Champions with two clear banks of four and often the midfield was supplemented by one of the forwards (we cleared it off the line at least once). They had far the better quality with at least 5/6 players who will go on to make it as a pro (although a few will be more at our level). LuaLua's cousin played on the wing for them and he would get in our first team now and Ameobi's brother looked quite good but I think he needs to work on his fitness. The best player on the park was their number 4 who sat in front of their back four all game doing a lot of good defensive work but he had a great game distribution wise as well (definately someone to watch out for). I think it was probably the way we were playing but a lot of tactics (certainly in the first half) were hoofball to our front two (Tom Eaves and Ryan Brooke) who had a clear height advantage (we were much the bigger side- something I can't remember us being for a while). I won't see a better goal from an Oldham player this season Brooke beat a couple of men then hit an absolute screamer from 30 yards which Shay Given wouldn't have saved (his young understudy got no where near it). Our best player was the number 11 (left wing) who was very quick and had a few neat tricks, (not Bembo-Lita).
However realistically our best player was wearing black tonight the ref gave everything our way, they had at least 4 decent penalty shouts, 2 of which were absolute stone-wall and 1 of those would have probably been a red card (our number 5 who did well against good oppositon pulled back their centre-forward when he was through on goal). Our number 4 was lucky to be on the field he should have probably have had a yellow card before an absolutely dreadful challenge which was late, from behind and above ball height and should have probably been a straight red. (The Oldham fan contingent were chanting 'On, On, On' at this point). Both teams had a goal disallowed for offside but I couldn't tell you if they were or not.
The youngsters did well though and can be proud of their efforts. Newcastle youth team are top of their league and I think they have won all their games so they are a good youth side. I don't think they played as well as they have done, but our lads stopped them playing a lot and did what they had to do well.
Plus if you think the chavs/scallies are bad in the RRE you should see the ones who go to Newcastle youth games, including the one lad (who was probably about 16) and his cronies who sat in front of us just because we were Oldham fans who spent all his time either giving us abuse for being (it was 1-1) or with his hand down his trousers (like he had some form of STI) or both. There were a few plastic bottles being thrown in our direction (probably more aimed at OS than geordie blue or myself) but these missed us and hit the poor kid in front of me (who was only about 6) and who wisely moved not long after.
Overall despite being the worse side our lads did well and can be very very proud of themselves.
PS If someone who went has a team sheet they can fill in the names where I only have numbers.
aye that was a great laugh
enjoyed the game, some good banter, and some not so good banter
OS was clearly of his face...abusing the linesman at every opportunity but at least giving him a good reception when he disallowed their goal!
as you say newcastle were by far the better team, and due to the ref's inability to give pens they should have been well ahead, but we stuck at it, and if our shooting had been a bit better we could have snatched it
Phil Mcgrath had a quality game, some great runs and neat skills, looks like one for the future, and brooke's goal was class...20 yard screamer!!
shame about the last minute offside goal...would have been class

Bit of a bump action going on. So I take it the plan at the mo is to meet up in the 'head of steam'/tilley's at around 4 and then head on to the ground from there. (Some by different methods to others though I'm afraid)
aye good bump!
sounds like a plan...tho i am playing in a 5 a side tournament until 4 so will be down there about 5
-
I'd suggest the same. Well, except Tilley's and 4pm .
i'll be there!!
-
ok...how about i make a suggestion...everyone who is coming meet up at 5 at the strawberry pub...literally behind the stadium opposite shearers bar...for a drink, or three before the game, then we can all go in together and make a decent atmosphere!
-
For pubs, the ground is in the City centre so there are absolutely bazillions to choose from.
If people are coming up/down by train then something nearer the station might be in order. Centurion is decent (in the train station) and The Forth Hotel. Nearer the ground Tilley's Bar is probably (definately) the best one, especially if anyone likes the odd real ale or two. More regular visitors than myself to the smoke might know of better ones to meet up at though.

aye the head of steam is a cracking place...right near the train station too...the strawberry is a good pub as well and should be fine for a game like this
-
I'll definately be coming in from Durham and plan to come straight from work to see if drink still tastes the same in the big smoke. How much noise can a handful of people make in a 52,000 all seater stadium? Hmmm....
Edit: And yes it is 7pm on the 9th December 2008.
i have been to a few reserve matches at st james...and you would be surprised!
-
ah good...yeah its a huge stadium...but i think they will sit everyone together...should plan to congregate towards one side!
-
i know its a lot to ask, to travel all the way up here for a youth cup game...but is anyone planning to make the trip???
i dont want to be the only latic in the place!
-
Wasn't sold out last season.
if you say so!
hope they dont give us reserved seats like last season then...to to be fair we just sat behind the goal anyway!
-
would be disappointing if its not sold out...considering it was last season and we are in much better form now
-
that video was better than nothing...the atmoshphere was class down our end...shame the dale fans didnt sing at all
-
quite right to...was a moronic thing to do and he deserves the ban and probable fine
hopefully he will learn!
-
newcastle away would be perfect for me...i can walk to the ground!!
-
that was quality...shame he could not slot the forst one!!
anyone got a link to the 'highlights' since ITV didnt show them
-
H1 is fantastic...not too keen on H3 but i could live with it...the green away one was a bit nasty tho
quality work!!
-

i rarely post here but i thought the second half performance was excellent
oldham produced very little in the first half while dale had lots of the ball in our half
the second saw us in some great positions, having all of the possession and territory but really not testing the dale keeper at all. they produced next to nothing and got very lucky with two very very soft goals
the ref didnt help but i dont think he was as bad as some people are making out
on another day we win this game comfortably, we'll pick up and move on and if we continue to play like that and put teams under that sort of pressure we'll win lots of games between now and the end of the season
