  1. And that is the key............that and along with a good FA Cup run with a couple of big scalps whilst stayin at the top of the league...aka 1989-1990 season. I am goin for 7853

Reckon we'll just tip 8,000 myself with just short of 2000 coming over the Pennines. RRE and Main stand look like they are going to be pretty much full so thats 4000 and I would imagine at least 2000+ in the Chaddy.

Should be a good atsmosphere. Fingers crossed we get the right result. If we play as well as we can we should do.

  2. Who would have taken 5 wins and 2 draws from our 1st seven games? If someone had predicted that before the season started they'd be in a padded cell in a not so comfy jacket.

Been to Tranmere, Col U, Leeds and Hartlepool and beat MK Dons and Millwall at home. Only Cheltenham out of those seven games can be described as a gimme. You could make a case for all 6 of those teams being involved in the promotion frame come the end of the season. 4 games away and three at home played. Plus 10 goal difference. Taylor and Hughesy banging them in.

Udds at home with a chance for a revenge.

Life is crud isn't it?

  3. One reason for low crowds could be the demise of the Lookers stand, many don't like to watch a match from behind the goal, the only alternative is the main stand, which is probably near capacity on match days.

It does not help when the general feeling is it could be several years before Lookers is replaced.

I agree the Latics over 65 rule is particularly galling when lots of other clubs operate an over 60 concessionary rule.

Maybe the Football League ought look at this issue.

I think you can look at many excuses for why our crowds are poor:-

    1) Man Utd/Man City on our doorstep

    2) Poor ground

    3) Division 3 football (will alays be division three to me)

    4) Lookers regulars don't want to relocate

    5) Its too expensive

    6) They can't smoke

    7) People are on hols

    8) Stuck in this division for 10 years

    9) Credit crunch

    10) Unemployment in Oldham

    11) Stewards

    12) The muppet choir

    13) The atmosphere

    14) They don't get a bonk off Cheyl Cole at half time

Christ we could go on forever. The excuses are not however exclusive to us. There are many clubs with many of the same problems but they seem to have much better support than us.

What we seem to fudge and shy away from is the real reason. Oldham isn't a football town and the people have no pride in their roots. Too many plastic mancs. That won't change overnight until we do something on the pitch and the club gets its ariss in gear off the pitch.

  4. There may be some truth in what he says .... but he need's a good PR on how to say it :rant.sml: Maybe the same PR company can work with certain stewards.

As we already have a topic on this subject you may want to continue to post on that one. I will merge this post for you.

Personally I am absolutely sick to death of all this PR stuff. Corney wears his heart on his sleeve. You can get someone to dress that up all you want but the message is clear. The size of our support is nothing short of shameful whichever way you cut it. If Corney upsets a few people by telling the truth - well they need to get out more.

He is laying the cards on the table. Back us and we'll continue to back the club. Don't and we won't. Fair do's I say. At least he is giving the Oldham public a chance at it instead of just selling Taylor and Eardley without even thinking about it.

    Just my opinion.

  5. Big clap to Corney from me. He can't keep dipping in his pocket on gates of less than 5000. He is telling it like it is. I admire the guys honesty.

Would you throw money away on a business if the income continued to drop? Nah, you'd strip the assets and streamline the operation. Thats business.

TTA have given us a fighting chance. A budget that enables us to put out a side with Liddell, Gregan, Hughes, Davies, Eardley, Taylor in it. Or would you rather we have a budget which enables us to put out a team with Tipton, Garnett, Ricketts, Jepson in it? Some people have very short memories.

Well done Simon. Tell it like it is. You have a lot more patience than what I would have. Touch wood Oldham might just realise it has a football team one day but that might only be when we end up with another trip to Wembley.

  6. Excuse my ignorance but why does it have to be £20 on the day...why can't it be £18.

Some people just like to pay on the day. If they do they'll pay £20. Why should the club cut off its nose to spite its face and charge them £18? If the argument is that more people will turn up because its two quid cheaper I doubt that would be the case in all honesty.

  7. We will agree to disagree then big guy! I remember when the Trannies used to bring more away fans than anyone else... it has been a real shock over the last two years to see how their away support has declined... but hey, the point is that not only away fans, but the lure of the club that makes a crowd. Sur elots of the stay aways would come to see us put one over ronnie, rather than play the mighty cheltenham...

As for the rest of the stuff... we will see, however MK Dons is yet another uninspiring game to lure the fans back... but if we happen to beat the dingles, and the Trannies (not really expecting anything at colchester) then we have to be up on the 5k mark...

Tranmere bring more than anyone else?

2 key things for me. We have lost a lot of the floating fans because of the cost of going and the apathy of being stuck in the 3rd division for the past 10 years. The teams we play also doesn't help, no disrespect to Chelts but a big turnout of Tics isn't going to happen against them whether we are top of the league or not. The fixture is quite frankly a sad inditement of how far this great club has fallen. Had we been playing Leeds/Leicester I am pretty sure you could have added another 1500 to the home support.

The club does little or nothing to promote the club within the town. OK, every now and again the players will go to schools and sign some shirts in the Spindles but its hardly getting massively in the face of the people in the town. Get some posters up, get some billboards on Rochdale road, get some adverts in the Chron, in the Advertiser. Get a family ticket scheme going. Get some radio adverts. The club should be doing more to encourage the fans to get their arses down to BP.

Winning football and a good team will help as well of course!

We could become a Bolton if we do things right - similiar sized town and they were in the same boat as us 20 years ago. Get it wrong and we are no bigger or better than Rochdale - again, a similar sized town. Thats the fine line between success and failure. At the moment the Oldham public still is interested in its football team but the majority aren't in love with it.

  8. Aren't we all missing the point a bit here. 4600 irrespective of stewarding, the flamin drum :D , the muppet choir, leg room being crud etc etc is absolutely appalling.

TTA's patience must be wearing thin. I love this club but if you asked me whether I wanted to run it as a business as well as support it.........................not a chance.

  9. That's going to do the club a world of good and if everybody thought that way we'd have no football club at all. I think all the hype surrounding the Millwall game has got people including the Stewards over reacting.

If you complain enough the club will listen, as the last thing they want is to alienate their fans!!

It will all settle down in a few weeks just give it a bit of time...if your not happy in the RRE get in the Chaddy but for god's don't desert the club as it needs your support now more than ever!!!

Went in the RRE today and I thought it was superb despite the numbers. Miles and away better than the NSM and Chaddy.

Thoroughly enjoyed the game and the atmosphere. My 6 and 4 year olds thought it was magic.

  10. I always think of Latics being an ok supported club. My grandparents support them, my sister, he daughter, my wife and quite a lot of my mates. How many of them actually attend the games? Close to bugger all. My wife goes now and then and my sister/daughter/husband go if theres a freebie but apart from that its pretty dire.

I think thats a problem in the town to be honest. People just can't be rsssed. The interest is there but I reckon only promotion will get some serious bums on seats. A 14 year hangover hasn't helped. People get out of the habit, get a different hobby. Meanwhile results are poor and the ground is starting to creak.

Even if we stay top of the league only a brave man would predict the average home support would exceed 6,000 when we are hosting the likes of (and no disrespect) - Chelts, Col U, Scunny etc etc. Sure they'll come out of the woodwork for the higher profile matches but I think we are where are at least until something special happens.

BUT, given a fair wind I believe this club now has the opportunity of getting itself back on its feet and dare I say we'll rarely have a better chance.

The faithful 5000 will be there against Cheltenham no doubt but I hope that the armchair fans quickly realise that the buzz of BP is better than Jeff Stellings jokes and that real life football following your own town team is the only way to fly.

  11. Read my other thread. Im big enough to admit defeat and im sure Swansea and Forest also did at the start of last season when they hardly picked up many points. Where are they now?

Fair play for coming back after making a fool of yourself. Next time save the winding until after you actually win the game eh. Stupid predictions make you look like a proper kn0b.

    Hopefully a lesson learnt kidda

  12. As has been mentioned before on here, the local 'Wonderkid' ( ) derseves a song-

My suggestion is- Taylor For England! (Like The Ernie one).

Add yours and I'm sure one will be chosen by the Latics' Non Standing, Non Swearing faithful!

    Don't we already have one?

He jinks to the left, he jinks to the right
