I have a lovely photo of Latics fans on Saturday but can't work out how to get this on to a forum post.
Can anyone help?

Good to see that Latics is one of the clubs that supports the Safer standing initiative by the Football Supporters Federation.
http://www.fsf.org.uk/campaigns/view/safe-standing-campaign
It's crazy that these arguments between fans of the same team happen week in week out. I've been involved on both sides of the arguments in the past!
Now that football stadiums are so much better managed, there is now no reason why standing can't be reintroduced.
If you visit the link above, you can email your MP to help the campaign to bring back standing areas

We should be safe now though I think we'll need more than 50 to be certain. Some teams have gone down on 50 points in the past.
These are the teams that finished one point above the drop zone over the last few seasons, along with their points totals
08/09 Carlisle 50
07/08 Crewe 50
06/07 Leyton Orient 51
05/06 Rotherham 52 (two teams went down on 50 points)
04/05 MK Dons 51 (Torquay went down on 51)
03/04 Chesterfield 51 (Grimbsy went down on 50)
02/03 Chesterfield 50
01/02 Northampton 49

Just browsing this site and getting annoyed by thetrainline.com adverts
They charge £1 per booking and an additional £3.50 if you use a credit card
No fee applies if you use virgintrains.co.uk or any other rail operator's website. They all use the same ticket database.
Just wanted to get that off my chest...

Stoke FACR Jan '94 W1-0
Stoke FLC Dec '94 W1-0
are two that immediately spring to mind
I was at both of those. The league game was dreadful for sure but the Cup game most memorable for the electric atmosphere and Beckford's goal. I can't even remember what the game was like!
Last night there wasn't even an atmosphere to speak of, it was like a reserve game.

Mansfield was a football match it was a war. Great game and atmosphere even if the football was brilliant
The locals all thought Comet was mecca as well (u had to be there but god it was funny)
Maybe my memory of the Mansfield match is tainted by my wife sitting next to me cold and bored wanting to leave after about 60 minutes! Wasn't a great game but like watching Brazil compared to last night.

Like most Latics, I didn't feel particularly elated coming away from Stockport last night, even though we won. It made me think of other terrible games that we have won. I'm struggling to beat last night but how about:
Mansfield away 1-0 when Fitz Hall scored a last minute pen and Eyres got sent off
Birmingham at home mid 90s- we won 4-0 (!) and Francis scored 2 oown goals. Great result but an awful match
any others?

A terrible match to watch last night on a bad pitch sitting on an open terrace with no atmosphere and a minority of idiots directing personal abuse at the manager.
I can well understand those who would like to see Penney replaced - it's been an awful season. But have a look through the divisions - clubs that change manager regularly tend not to be the most successful. We've got to let the manager have another crack next season and see if it works out. Joe Royle only just avoided relegation in his first season I believe (though I'm too young to remember it!).
I'm not enjoying watching Latics much and neither is anyone else. But chopping and changing manager isn't necessarily going to solve anything. A couple more wins and there is still a chance that Penney could get manager of the month....

For those who are driving I wouldn't even consider trying to park nearby cos you won't unless you have a residents permit AND there are strict wardens.
I strongly recommend the Park and Ride which runs every few minutes get off at the Odeon cinema near the ground. You'll pass the P&R site as you come off the motorway at jct 29. see www.devon.gov.uk/index/transport/parking/park_and_ride.htm
(ps my Mrs used to live next to the ground so I know what I'm talking about!)
Open terrace so good luck if it rains!

Nothing memorable from this season so far...
It's sad that we need to look back rather than forward but Friday night was so depressing so this is great!
Thanks OAFC Prozac for reminding me of some good moments. It's tempting to look back on 12 long years in Division 3 as utterly depressing but it hasn't been all bad has it? It could be worse, we could be Rochdale.
Some good memories (apart from the usuals): Four of us driving back from Notts County in a mini over the Peak District after Carthorse McCarthy's hat-trick singing "Super Sean" all the way then my mate puking up as soon as we got back to Mossley.
Second best: singing Oh When the Blues non-stop for the 2nd half in a 2-1 win at Swindon - hot day, crucial match, quality breakaway goal by Johnson.
Magic!

Cheers for that
Are there any places on the original list that shouldn't be on there?
for example, if it's a historical name that no-one uses any more, or an administrative area mainly used by the Council / Ordnance Survey?

A bit off-topic here but I need the help of some fellow Latics fans. I am doing a project on defining different parts of Oldham. What I am trying to establish is how local people refer to the area they live in. While there are maps and Council wards etc., I am not sure that these relate to what local people call their area.
For example, Hill Stores is a well known area (I think) but doesn't appear on the A to Z or as a Council ward. On the other hand, there are places on the A to Z like Hanging Chadder that I've never heard of.
I have come up with the list below. I would be grateful if anyone could help me with it.
Cheers!

Was football better before the Premier League?

Anyone who has been watching the Goals of the Season from the last 50 years on Match of the Day will know that the quality of football has massively improved since the Premier League started. There are usually 2 or 3 goals each week on MOTD that are better than the goal of the season from the past.
And the fan experience is better on the whole when you think back to the decrepit stadia we had to put up with and the modern facilities we have now (thinking here of away grounds, not ours!). It's generally safe at matches now, virtually no racism and fighting etc.
The problem is too much money at the top and not enough filtering down to lower leagues.
