  1. The German football experience just shows what we're all missing over here. I try and get over twice a season and watch whoever I can, and 99% of the time the atmosphere is unbelievable. Recommend Düsseldorf or Cologne as easy trips from Manchester. The only disappointment was probably Schalke (too theme park-ish, think Old Trafford) but some of the other experiences have been amazing - the best of all being in the away end for Paderborn v Duisburg in division 2. Cheap tickets, standing and drinking during the game all helps, and the Germans love it when they find out your English and normally insist on buying you beers. They couldn't be more welcoming. A lot of the games have an edge as well, and the security/policing is full-on but I like all that, it makes it more intense. Recommend it to anyone who can get over there. Next for me is an Energie Cottbus/Hertha Berlin double-header in early March, unless I happen to have an FA Cup quarter final to attend that weekend!

  2. Same thing happened to Hamilton Accies. Left the town in the 80s, played at various rivals' grounds such as Partick and Motherwell. Support ebbed away until it was down to just a few hundred. They're now back at their own ground in Hamilton after many years as nomads but only get around 2000 home fans in the SPL, despite great success on the pitch in recent years (not so good this year). The club is in a better financial state, it has it's own ground, but the support base was decimated by groundsharing and hasn't recovered since. They effectively wrote off a generation of new fans. OAFC are in danger of doing the same.

  3. If it wasn't for the beers with my Dad and my mates before and after the game, I'm not sure I'd bother anymore. What we are subjected to week after week at BP is consistently crap. No spirit on the pitch and let's face it, very little spirit in the stands. I can't believe I'm thinking like this, but it's been going on for too long now. Of course I'd miss it, but I'm not sure I can carry on devoting so much money and time to something that actually makes me this angry. Gutted.

  4. Totally agree mate.

No left side in first half so moved Smalley there for the second...whats all that about?

That Ainsworth looked a good player today as did Robson for Hartlepool on Monday..can't cost that much.

Keiran Lee looked well p***ed after being left out of the 16...feel sorry for the lad 2 games and out.

I thought maybe that Ainsworth was making his debut, which might have explained us not doing our homework on him. As it is he's played the last 6 games so there's no excuse. As for Lomax.... :clown:

  5. If this game on Saturday was at Oldham under these circumstances HTFC would sell their allocation, 4600 if it was available as they did in last season cup game. I can point to many away grounds this season where they have had bigger support than Oldham, and you have been in the play offs all season and they have been bottom half.

Just because you all come out for your one big away day there is no need to get all cocky.

'under the circumstances'? So what you are saying is that HTFC have fairweather fans?? Oldham always take 2000+ to your ground even in the bad times.

  6. none of them do, but pretending to support us guarantees another few hundred to the cult following. going down the EEEEEEAAAAAARRRRRR route is tantamount to the RAC wink wink

To be fair, they don't play the Manchester card but also they aren't to keen to admit to being from Saddleworth either!

Good night, but I made a sharp exit when all the Oldham lot were trying to turn that van over on Whitworth Street after the gig!!!

  7. I went to the game with a neutral (a very happy Sunderland fan - who a few people in the beer queue thought had torrets*) and his comments matched those of my below. I am also sober (on standby).

Me and Harrop thought your mate was on a Care in The Community outing!!!!

Gregan should appeal. It was one of those 'worth a booking' fouls. There's nothing in the rules of the game to justify the red.

  8. I'm there with the missus.

We now have an Oldham band and team with attitude....The Whip are alright as well, gave Latics a mention at the fest...think they gave us an 'ooh Roger Palmer'.

Saw The Wheel at the Castle and at Leeds fest last week....in my top 5 band I saw at the festival.

Booked Friday off for a proper sesh on Thursday.

Just seen that Thursday is now sold-out. Sooo excited - haven't seen The Wheel since the Club Academy gig which was class.

Any idea where's good in town on a Thursday night for afterwards? Have also booked Friday off! Then it's Tranny away, happy days!!!

Cheers for the nod on The Whip. Will have a listen on Myspace.

  9. ...er.....staying put!

    rhymes better.

    Yeah that's better!

I did get the missus to take my photo on Rueben's spot, arms outstretched like the great man just after he rattled in his 25 yard wonder goal! Sadly wasn't brave enough to wear my Latics shirt though, it's a good job!

  10. Seeing as some tw*t screwdrivered my car last night in Leeds (presume it was coz of my Latics minikit, no other reason) I was chuffed to bits with the result. I hope he is crying into his Stella, w*nker!

I did actually want them to go up before this weekend, but having stood with about 30,000 of them at the Kaiser Chiefs gig I changed my mind. We got the full repertoire of Leeds songs all night long, it was painful. One sticks in my mind, which I've updated to suit current circumstances:

    15 points, who gives a f*ck

    Super Leeds are......er.......staying down!

Doesn't quite have the same ring to it!!
