  1. So basically you feel threatened by OWTB's quick success.

You've got the wrong end of the stick pal. As i stated at the end of my post people like it a little less crowded and i'm one of those people. As Stevie_J rightly said, 'Can't please all of the people, all of time.' When did i even imply that i felt 'threatened'? Of course the official forum is going to be thriving. Common sense. Re-read the posts i've posted and stop putting words in my mouth.

the clique that billy and bob have formed will be broken.

Stop threatening me/us! :( Me and Bob will come round with our 56k modems and boink you round the head if you don't start behaving...

Get into present day, enrol on a computer course and learn how to use it properly and you will benefit from the many enhancements made since oafc.co.uk's inception.

I'm quite happy with my computer skills thank you very much. I cope perfectly fine getting my way around the site and posting responses. I've hit 2008 with a bang! I just happened to be the only one to echo the sentiments of my fellow unofficial minions! The original response from Rummey was exactly the kind of response I expected and thanks for that. It's just a shame you have people like this chap who turn the slightest implication into school ground gang warfare.

If oafc.co.uk had kept up with technological advacements, you wouldnt be here moaning today and I doubt there would even be a owtb.co.uk. But there is.

oafc.co.uk has never been a particularly well used site. News floats around, banter gets around, the community is good. Who knows... maybe the chap who very kindly pays for its continuation will upgrade to a year 2000 version in the near future but for now the majority are happy with things as they are.

Thanks for your calculated contribution sheridans_world.

  2. Mmm, that's not very nice now is it Billy. Especially after I did welcome you to our forums after all. Perhaps oafc.co.uk isn't such the quaint alternative you have depicted previously...

Apologies for your misinterpretation of the word 'welcome'. I didn't mean a literal welcoming or a birthday greeting but was stressing the point that it's hard to become 'one of the lads' on here unless you're glued to your computer or if you know members from outside the big bad world that is the internet.

Don't really want to drag oafc.co.uk regulars into it but i think this sums it up nicely:

this is like your local pub, good banter and honest opinions, homely feel.

OWTB is like a beefeater or toby carvery. All a bit fake, trying to create a genuine feeling.

Hope i've cleared a few things up! PS oafc.co.uk is the quaint alternative i depicted earlier. The transgression from oafc.co.uk to OWTB in terms of football league status is the equivalent of League 2 to Championship. Maybe some people just like a bit less traffic.

    :lol1:

  3. Hello chaps/chappettes. Just wanted to clear a few things up.

The main point was that the thread on oafc.co.uk was in no way a direct pop at the OWTB set up.

    A few points raised were:

    1) Some of the threads can get far too crowded. It's not everybody's cup of tea to be filtering through pages of replys to get the general gist of a thread.

    2) The fact that there are several different areas to the message board compared to oafc.co.uk's simple one page board. None Latics news is posted from time to time but many of the contributers prefer to keep the threads to Latics related topics.

    3) The sense of a community. Every poster is taken seriously and their opinion counts. At times it's a bit off-putting to see the dominance of the same posters on OWTB commenting on every single thread. (& often private jokes which the average joe won't understand kills the discussion for other members)

    4) The fact that unless you are signed up to OWTB you can't have a say in some of the polls which affect the club.

We're not saying this message board is bad in anyway. It's modern, informative, has a wide slection of members and is now the Official message board of Oldham Athletic. All we're trying to say is try not to neglect simplicity and try not to neglect the minority posters as many fans, including myself, also have an opinion!

    Peas and Loaf

  4. Would love to see O grady left side Taylor right with Lewi and Hughes up front.

O'Grady isn't a winger and he most definitely isn't left footed as proven by Tuesday night. He could get to the by-line but just didn't look comfortable crossing or passing. As we have no natural left sided option it has to be Taylor imo. Should be Smalley on the right but I get the impression Shez doesn't like to upset the older lot (Gregan, Norman, Lids etc) so I won't be surprised if Lids starts.

  5. I've grown up with a few of the lads who now classify themselves as 'boys'. They're still nice young chaps on the surface and will always say hello but it baffles me how we grew up under similar circumstances and experienced similar life experiences from an early age to see them think they're part of the next filming of Football Factory.

    Pathetic.

  6. FAO those blues getting on the Man Vic, Stalybridge, Ashton, Mossley, Greenfield etc. line. It's well worth makin the short trip through Uppermill and into Marsden as a return from Greenfield costs approx ₤11 while a return from costs ₤4.50. Scandalous i know but well worth the effort.

  7. Totally agree with what's being said- £27 is far too much for a 3rd division football match but I'm being a sucker and letting Master Bates spounge off me one last time! Me and my bro will be making it as cheap as possible though. Catching the train in Marsden so we don't have to pay the Lancashire/Yorkshire boarder charge, crate of your finest lager and when we get to the ground there's a huge McDonalds just up the road near one of the car parks which has a Walk-Through! The future of fast food has well and truly arrived.. in Yorkshire! (Slightly healthier as you burn calories while ordering food)

  8. I just sat there with my head on the sterring wheel with tears in my eyes wanting to throw up.

    Get a grip lad! :D

But in all seriousness these were very tough times. I remember getting off the bus after school every night, popping into the newsagents and reading the back of the chron. Day by day it was getting worse and in all honesty I was preparing myself for a season as a Mossley fan! Up the Lillywhites!

  9. The BBC claims Kevin Maher will decide his future within the next 48 hours. Swindon are out of the race as Maurice Malpas blasted, "They [Maher and his agent] promised to get back to me so I've moved on and will be trying to get somebody else. Just to have no word at all sticks in my throat."

The Latics confirmed interest in the 31 year old last week and have offered the former Southend captain terms, however, the Gills are quietly confident of signing the experienced midfielder's signature.

    Anybody bothered?

  10. One will be the left back from the Rhyl game ... O dear may look a bit like JP but was very poor..

The keeper looked ok but barked like a dog on heat

Other may have been the right winger who showed some pace and good touches but we have better already ..

I know the LW form the Rhyl game was an Argentina lad wh IO did well and deserves a few more games to test his ability. Lookd ok but didnt speak much of the english lingo

I've just spoken to my mate who says he's seen them messing about with a football on the pitches near BP. He added that from their 'mess about' you wouldn't at all be able to tell that they're pro footballers! And also, the keeper is the keeper who played against Rhyll.

  11. I've got a mate who works in the Clayton Green whose informed me via text that we have three Israeli players on trial at the club at the minute. They've been in for something to eat (it was fish tonight!) every night for the past few nights. One is a black full back called 'Abdul', one is a tall keeper and the third is a striker. They don't speak much English between them and have had a translator by their side for the past few days. I wonder if Bob tel Aviv had something to do with all this! And maybe he's this mystery translator?! B)
