Southend fans full of praise for Hobson “one of the best centre backs in the league”
Was linked with Orient in January. Mainly played right of a back 3, which may be the shape of things to come.
Still like us to sign a left footed CB.

Turns out it was us!
And a damn good replacement for Yarney.
A pacy right back now and it's looking like a good summer. Still like a left footed CB in as well, if that's not too greedy!

Under 24 so compensation due if we offered a contract to him at least equal to previous terms. (Assuming this still applies in the National League).
Thanks, Mick. Didn't realise that - and not a clue if it does apply in our league. Remember the hoohah over possible NL change to sick pay, so heaven knows what does/doesn't apply at this level. Can't even operate on EFL system for substitutions, let alone proper promotion/relegation. Roll on EFL div 3.

Do you think Haaland good as he is would score as many without De Bruyne assists?
Didn't do badly without de Bruyne at Molde, RB Salzburg or B Dortmund!
Do take the point though BP about better service, more chances.

One player of those offered contracts seemingly not staying with Junior Luamba off to Barnsley as per @Lee Sinnott - stops the 'he's got potential' brigade and presume we get some money/sell on for offering him a contract
Not sure we get anything. Offered a deal, rejected it, out of existing contract June 30 and then free to go where he wants.

To be fair, think Alty have recruited pretty well, on the face of it, and odds of 100 to 1 are a bit insulting. Not that I particularly give a Donald about them. Think my odds of 12 to 1 on Latics will look decent when our recruitment is done. Expect us to be joint favs with Chesterfield by start of season.

Not sure about the long throw. Thought they used Jesse Debrah for that. Still, a good prospect and I would be perfectly pleased IF signing rumours are true. Being greedy, wouldn't say no to him and Debrah!!

Greens re signed
Think he's still a work in progress, despite being 26.
Great pace, can chip in with goals and well worth keeping on in the squad. Hopefully more to come from him.

Think we can be happy with the 2 signings so far still very early in the window so no doubt plenty more coming in too.
Good to see fans of their previous clubs saying we have signed excellent players AND excellent off-field characters. Proper recruitment strategy for a change.
Would think we are now looking at least one more midfielder (Ward?) and maybe one or two defenders, preferably a left-footed centre back among them.

Said the Notts County fans when they plucked Langstaff and Scott from Gateshead this time last year......
Gateshead played us off the park in the majority of our games against them this season, if he was central to that I'd suggest he would be an upgrade on what we currently have, right age, from what I remember he's box to box and looks after the football which we sadly lacked from central midfield last season so for me I'd be happy to see him come in.
Absolutely, Yarddog. He's busy, strong and looks to pick forward passes. Other than Notts County, I think Gateshead played some of the best football against us last season.
If, IF, the rumours are true he will do for me.

We're not talking about the previous tinpot regime here. We're talking about new owners/directors who have made a point of doing the right thing.
I am very confident that, even if we can't reach agreement with Yarney, the matter will be dealt with professionally and amicably.
The days of churlish behaviour are, thankfully, a thing of the past.

The centre half from Curzon Ashton, Devon Matthews has been linked to us for a little while.
Didn't make it through our academy at 16 but seems to be improving with age.

Think a left footed CB would give the team/squad better balance, especially after Clarke's departure. Ryan Johnson (promoted with Hartlepool and Stockport) looks likely to be out of contract and would seem ideal.
McGahey could come good, but this is a lengthy layoff with a serious injury and a CB signing makes sense to me as it is an area where bookings/dismissals are an occupational hazard.
Agree with Yardog on midfield creativity being the key area, but reckon we do need another striker. Not entirely convinced Sambou would be the answer, but would bow to DU's inside knowledge. Abraham? No thanks!

Sure Lags is right that a few will have been encouraged to look elsewhere.
As for Luamba, he turned 20 only a few days ago and, as he is undoubtedly on only modest wages, I don't think it's a bad shout to give him another 12 months. At 6ft 2 and reasonably quick, he's likely to have shown a bit of promise in training. A bit more coaching and a good loan spell in mens football, then decide.

Not to mention a Liverpool team that featured Gerrard, Suarez, Sterling, Sturridge, Henderson.....
Rather than say we are light years behind Wrexham (we're not) one could point to the fact that Wrexham have served their time down here and are now on the up, like Luton and Stockport before them. A model for us to follow.
Are you allowed to talk sense on here?
But, but we're Oldham Athletic and we demand X, Y, Z immediately!

Find this business of the interviews amusing. DU is called a shithouse by some numpty fans, responds with a bit of shithousery and is still called a shithouse. Can't win with some people.
-
Loan to Jan as he is nowhere near fit after long absence
-
Marvin Kokos?

Suspect that if bans issued by club you will be okay. But if banned by court that could be a problem
-
Missed the options of Clarke and Maynard. Still think we need at least two more experienced players and several of our youngsters need loan spells in mens football.

Trialist is Charlie Cooper, ex Wealdstone, according to Twatter. Son of Mark Cooper, grandson of Terry.
-
On his first venture into League football, with Latics, he was derided by some fans.
Now, after 12 goals from midfield and a promotion, he has been voted fans player of the year, players player of the year and supporters club player of the year.
Well done Ben Garrity for showing what a knowledgeable mob some of our supporters are.

Think Barrow are after Billy Waters from Halifax
-
No manager has a chance if that useless t**t Mo has any input.
Reckon Wild would be a good shout if allowed to build his own squad. Done a good job helping Halifax punch above their financial weight but, whatever happens, it is arrogant to assume we will reclaim our "rightful" EFL place in a hurry.

He's better than our current RB. Oh wait, we haven't got one!
DU did say there might have to be some wheeler-dealing so I suppose getting a couple off the wage bill in order to plug a gap in the squad would make sense.
