Thinking about it our medical team may have made the initial diagnosis but want it confirming by people who have seen a few blood clots on Ultrasound before.

I agree, there is something odd. As you said previously it is about the easiest diagnosis to make on ultrasound. If it is a primary DVT then 3 months anticoagulation which means earliest he could play contact sport again would be April.

Since he joined I don’t think we have won a league game when Doyle hasn’t played....happy to be proven wrong! Let’s hope Duffus makes a wonder return after his equally weird pleural effusion.

So your the expert. But I do know the regulation about not saying your a doctor on social media without revealing your true name.

Those who know me on here, know I'm not a doctor- my name is from 2007 when I was 12 months from being one.

Ha! Yes that is very contentious GMC advice.

My name is Paul Whitaker and I work in Leeds. My practice is a bit too specific to be of any use on a football message board. Although a player with a pleural effusion was interesting....

  3. There are a list of causes as long as your arm for pleural effusions. In him it will be most likely related to an infection.

The chances of him being infectious and passing it to other players is virtually zero.

Likely out of action for a few weeks depending on the cause and the size of the effusion.

The things that stood out for me on the perimeter boards were:

    1. The one for the new orange kit genuinely made the place seem warmer. The power of the brain is amazing!! If we have them on constantly in the winter that might help.
    2. We appear to have hardly sold any adverts. There was loads for the club, the upcoming game against Scumbags kids etc. and a large number for SportsDirect and it's associated companies but I presume this gives us no additional revenue as it will all be part of the ongoing deal. As far as income generators there was one for Oldham Vending and another for Eden Creative (though Eden almost certainly have done all the graphics for the adverts so potentially get their own advertising free).

I had a look on the website and the charge for advertising on them is £1500+VAT per minute. To me an excessive amount for the publicity it would generate.

  5. The difference in standard between 5th/6th in play offs and teams just above the relegation zone is minimal. Literally a case of who is least shit rather than any particular excellence. A couple of decent players either way can make all the difference.

Get off to a half decent start. Be top 10 around Xmas and then with a fair wind and a bit of luck anything is possible. It would be fantastic if we could add Baxter around new year time for a bit more creativity and a final charge.

For the first time in a while actually excited about the season ahead. Already looking forward to Girona on Thursday.

  6. Spot on. Do any other clubs play music once the half has kicked off?

It lasted for about 1 second after whistle went. It would have been preferable yesterday if they played music for the whole 90 mins to provide a bit more entertainment.

Very enjoyable day out. Good banter with Sheffield and Derby fans in town before. Good atmosphere.

Didn't think we were that bad and according to the Sheffield fans it's the best they've played all season. They were questioning whether they were watching the right team.

Too lightweight as usual. Winchester awful and whole midfield, with exception of Palmer, no positional sense or bite. Defence left way too exposed. Just wanted someone to rough them up a bit and rattle them, they were low on confidence and there for the taking.

Anyhow, have a good feeling for next two games despite all that.

  7. Aww bless all this swearing at football matches must be a new fad.

Dear me, my first memories of going to games are of running battles outside and inside grounds seeing fans having the :censored: kicked out of them and general mayhem, is watching Oldham on a par with that now? I don't think so.

If you want the corporate feel to a match day where fans sit on there hands all game and politely applaud when a goal is scored head of down to the Emptyhad or Old Trafford they will welcome you with open arms. Part of supporting a small club in the lower leagues is the passion and the banter shared by fans, dickhead fans attend most games in the country its not something exclusive to Oldham. Its more worrying watching home games where most fans don't even give a :censored: when we go a goal down, our record away is actually much better in front of the knuckle draggers so stop making piss poor excuses for this bunch of losers to hide behind, its the team at fault not the fans.

I agree to a point but that was 30 years ago and the world moves on. One of my first football memories was seeing my dad get the crap kicked out of him in the subway behind Elland Road because he was wearing an Oldham scarf. It was possibly one of the most upsetting things I have seen in my life and trust me I have seen a lot of death and misery from places I have worked over the world.

It is a fine balance between creating an atmosphere where families feel safe but at the same time has a slight edge and a lot of passion. Most teams I've visited across Europe, Asia, and South America create a very hostile atmosphere for the opposition fans without the need to threaten and intimidate their own fans!! In fact the last dozen times I've seen fighting at football matches have been Oldham fans fighting each other.

  8. Theyve 'paid their money' so if they want to blight other peoples day they feel completely within their rights.

I agree entirely. There is very little point arguing with them as they are usually half cut and have the intelligence of a cockroach.

They won't be here in a years time but whilst they grace us with their presence a lot of genuine supporters (rather than pissed up drama queens) will have had enough.

My youngest woke up at 3am having a nightmare on Sunday morning and it wasn't the appalling football that mentally scarred him. Although that being said for a large part of the game people were supportive and it was only the last 20 minutes that things got a bit heated.

  9. Do the pissed up morons screaming foul mouthed abuse at the team they're supposedly there to support really think they're helping? Do they :censored:, they haven't the intelligence to suss that out. If they were that angry at the team's performances they just wouldn't go anymore. Embarrassing

I have to agree. I had the misfortune of being there on Saturday. As usual I took my boys and my niece. The abuse they had to listen to for 90 mins was unbelievable. The sad thing is that I've watch Oldham for over 30 years and seen hundreds of morons come and go, unfortunately the impact they have on the enjoyment for children and families can be huge.

  10. was it this game they openly ran across the pitch with a set of ladders...i do remember that game....i was in the chaddy....and i remember the sheff wednesday game,i had shiny new docs on for that one and took quite a few out at the corner of the chaddy......i also remember our promotion against wednesday when there fans started kicking lumps out of kids in the chaddy,i got a good few that day as well...

hate city united wednesday and leeds fans with a vengence....

i dont have a problem with the club trying to improve match day attendances, but i do have a problem with the club pimping itself and pleading with other clubs fans to turn up...

if they can discount it for them then why on earth cant they discount it for us....cant go today because im absolutely skint and payday isnt till thursday, but if i did id be tempted to borrow a season ticket or even go with a fellow tic and get in for a fiver....saving meself 15 on the day...so it just doesnt make financial sense

This game was played the week of my birthday. Most of my mates at school were city fans and my old man thought it would be a great idea to go to the game and have fish and chips after. We left at half time when it was clear we were developing some kind of acute stress reaction, nobody spoke in the car on the way home and I don't think we talked about it until a week after.

  11. It's not the football that's keeping me away as I've said in my previous posts. I just want to go to the football and enjoy it. Unless the fans' attitudes have improved of late then I won't enjoy it so I won't go. I've listened to games via Latics Player of late and then chatted people on here and it's been much better than actually going to BP.

I went to Spain at the end of May and watched Barcelona play La Coruna, I really enjoyed it. The football if I'm honest was rubbish but I still enjoyed the game and the atmosphere and I had an amazing time.

Fair point. I must admit that guilt is the reason I have attended half the games over the last couple of seasons. Guilt about not taking my old man and guilt about not giving the club my financial support. I enjoy watching other teams and agree the atmosphere can be fantastic elsewhere; however, it is only at latics when I get butterflies in my stomach before the game and a permanent smile on my face for a day after a win (even if you do have to put up with some tosser in the seat behind).
