  1. Johnson, for all people now dislike him, is a bright feller. Kelly isn't. Johnson has all sorts of contacts in the games. Kelly doesn't really appear to have the same sort of network. Johnson was also a lot better at winning the fans over.

I wasn't happy with the appointment of Johnson as I thought, and still do, that the primary reason that he got the job was that he was the cheapest option. More often than not, that approach won't pan out well. But, with Johnson, the club had stumbled upon a guy who will probably go on to have a reasonably successful career in management (although, he might not be at Barnsley long if he doesn't start getting results). With Kelly, the board's approach was the same - another dirt cheap option - I don't think he has the knowledge or intelligence to learn as quickly as Johnson did and I don't envisage a long career in management for him.

Perhaps he'll prove me wrong but I doubt it.

I don't disagree, don't know the fella, think he is probably a good no 2 as I allude to, but what is clear is he is learning on the job and is starting from a much lower base than LJ. I don't think the recruits are poor but still feel we miss a goal scorer. However round holes and square pegs is asking for failure and that seems to be where we are headed, Mike Jones is a CM and Forte isn't a lone striker. Danny P is also not a defensive midfielder, why are we trying to recreate these players positions. They are experienced players who have long since found their position, experimentation came much earlier in these particular individuals' career. I am worried

  2. Hi All,

Didn't go today was at Shrewsbury though and the performance was pretty poor.

Trouble I think we have with Kelly is that he is learning on the job with no experience. LJ was also learning but had his Dad giving him a view into football management. As far as I know Kelly also hasn't played at a high level therefore hasn't had great managers to learn from.

My worry is we have employed somebody who is probably a very good coach but probably needs a no 1 in front of him at this stage of career. Maybe he will learn quickly though, my guess would be so long as we are not cut adrift he will be ok until the start of December. That will be by when he is expected to show strong signs of development.

Not sure calling for his head will do anything but provoke more of a them and us situation as well as a more inwardly facing board. I think he is there til Xmas whatever, hopefully by then as a previous poster has said the stand is open and we have improved. Then a decision to stick or twist will probably made. Just guessing though

  3. I am still trying to see what Crewe's penalty was for, Mills was fouled unintentionally but fouled. Ref and linesman missed shirt pulling even when there was daylight between the player being fouled and the fouler. Frankly it was Latics' inability to put the ball in the net yesterday that cost us the game, in that we then left it to chance, relying on the officials to do their job to get something out of the game.

Two things, firstly the team must be masters of their own destiny and put the ball in the net three or four times a game to ensure they win. We lost yesterday because we couldn't do this

Secondly the officials in the English game are inept, they are substandard at premier league level and get worse as this filters down the leagues. Fourth Tier officials get £400 + per game. Ours get more, frankly they are not earning it and are not worth it. The whole officiating body and system needs ripping up and a new process to get competent officials in implemented as frankly they are a danger to the game?

  4. Goram had Alan Hodgkinson - and it made a massive difference to his game if you ask the fella

Keeping is a specialism and you need to work at all aspects of it, hence I think its a must in my eyes at least

A decent keeper will earn you more than 12 points a season probably as many as a decent striker and that makes a coach a decent investment

  5. Agreed about the quality, and some have got to go, but do we really need 4 first team coaches to the detriment of a goal poacher? Why do Rachubka and Kenny need a younger or any goalkeeping coach?

Can I ask why you don't think keepers need a coach? In my opinion you can't coach someone whose skillset is very different in exactly the same way as outfield players who in bigger clubs have different coaches specialising in all areas. A striker or midfielder isn't going to be able to help a keeper analyse weaknesses in his game and create drills to help them work through it.
  6. ^ This, in every single way for me. We're constantly chopping and changing players. There isn't a team in the four professional divisions that finds success by doing that. I felt pretty good at the end of last season that we'd found that 'hard to beat' formula and, with just a couple of good additions in the right areas we'd at last start seeing a settled team. Yet we've seen the same revolving door and a new ten players coming in.

    .

    Totally agree with this

  7. Really ... Andy et al, kids kicking seats is worse than pissed up foul mouthed teens and incoherent seemingly incontinent adults

    Lets stop kids watching football

Unfortunately most of the kids seem the best behaved people in the ground :)

However do agree that it is the parents that should take responsibility for their children if they are being a pain

I still believe that the older people around however should be mindful of the people in their vicinity as well, but maybe I am just old fashioned
