  1. Sheffield United were the stronger team and the better team for 90 minutes.

But, even allowing for the difference in quality, I thought that display was totally unacceptable.

Easy comparison for me would be the first game of last season at Tranmere. There we battled for everything. Chased lost causes. Went in for 40/60 balls and forced mistakes. Today we let them dictate. We had little in midfield, nothing up front and when the defence fell asleep it was game set and match Blades.

We will go down if players don't put a shift in. I don't think they did today.

Cisak - 5 - came for a lot but one awful punch in the first half worried me. Seemed to be in someway at fault for their first goal, not clear how the corner reached the scorer - TV will confirm if that's fair or not.

Lee - 6 - did ok, would probably have been better swapping positions with Winchester.

Black - 6 - I though he had a half decent game without being stunning.

M'Voto - 5 - did the basics well a lot of time but then developed a couple of doses of Hazellitis with unforced errors.

Diamond - 4- ridiculous head on the half way line to concede possession that lead to their second and missed a sitter when most would have hit the target.

Furman - 5 - worked hard but inneffective

Lund - 4 - contributed little and is yet another example of a player from a Premiership club who's dead piece distribution is variable in quality.

Winchester - 5 - committed to the cause, not afraid to get stuck in, but lacking the pace to play on the right of midfield. Their left back was excellent.

Taylor - 7 - excellent first half performance when he was our only threat. Faded a little in the second half.

Smith - 3 - looked like a non-league triker. Very few flicks on, which disappointed. Not what he was v Burrnley.

Reid - 2 - inability to jump and seemed unwilling to risk getting hurt for the cause. Did occasionally chase back, but was, on the whole, the poorest player on the pitch by a million miles.

Millar - 4 - didn't improve the balance of the side, although it's the substitution I'd have made.

Parker - 7 - fast, skilful and up for it. Must start next time.

I think a lot of players let themselves down today. When you're up against a better team you have to work harder than that to get anything out of the game. We didn't today.

It's early days. But we're at least one striker short, 2 midfield players and I'd suggest need more than Tarkowski for cover at centre half. Both the big men showed their weaknesses today and it wasn't pretty.

Those ratings are blatenly ridiculous! M'voto and Diamond were by far our strongest and most effective players all game. The first goal was a bad goal to give away and the second was an the result of a bad decision by Black not to close the ball down. My worry is the news story a few weeks ago lauding how many young players we have in the senior team, let's not kid ourselves we don't have the money for a even a decent league one youth academy, these stories about the youth players playing in the first team is bluster to hide how shallow our squad is. It's going to be a long season, hope we stay up, the consequences are not worth contemplating.

  2. Apparently Penny and Gray were in attendance at Manchester Utd's reserves vs Burnley reserves casting an eye over a certain Febian Brandy. Apparently Utd are not keen to loan him out given that his other loan spells haven't been that successful.

Good signing? Can't be much worse than Parker.

  3. I also follow Coleraine over here as well as Oldham - Blayney is a number 1 :censored: of the highest order. Will suit Linfield as they are on a par with Man Utd their fans think they have a god given right to win everything.

I know this is going off on a tangent slightly and I'm presuming that you support N.Ireland as well; do you know where you can buy the N.Ireland home kit on the internet? Every major shop that I've tried has either sold out or only stocks the away kit.

I'm trying to buy it as the missus is from Derry and it might wind her up a little!

Plus I like the way how Blayney clearly doesn't make any effort to save the second shot. What a disaster zone. Out of all the keepers that we've had over the past few seasons he's got to be one of the worst maybe discounting Bundtz!

  4. We were under no illusions when we signed Lee Hughes. A man with a very dubious past, but who was signed to score goals, and that he did. Hughes' record is pretty immense and I'd be as bold to suggest that he is the most natural finisher that we have had for at least 10 years including the turncoat Porter. Unlike Porter, Hughes never really did us over.

I think a lot of Latics fans need a bit of perspective. We've been in League One for a good while and players with ambition will inevitably want to play at a higher standard and fair play to them who wouldn't? The gulf between the Premiership and the Championship is enormous and the gulf between the Championship and League One is even larger.

  5. I doubt the likes of Ferguson, Mourinho, Hiddink, Hughes, Wenger, Benitez etc have a load of muppets on messageboards calling for their heads when their players are accused of more serious things like rape, drug abuse or a serious assualt.

To be fair I think managers of that calibre have the sense not to endorse or participate in a massive session two days before a crucial home fixture.

I am against sacking Sheridan mainly because that will cause even more instability at the club but, I do think that the Directors should have a serious word with Shez and attempt to curb the apparent drinking culture that appears to be prevalent at the club.

  6. Stumbled across this while looking at Cork FC's team news before placing and probably losing a bet on them tonight.

The Evening Echo a local paper in Cork has linked us and Tranmere with a midfielder by the name of George O'Callaghan. Has anyone heard anything about this?

The link is to a pdf. copy of their back page (to the right of the screen) http://www.eecho.ie/

  7. Right I've sent an email to the relevant people although Mr Woolas' email address was down, I'll try again tomorrow morning for that one.

    This is how it reads;

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to officially put in writing my utmost support for the redevelopment plan of the Boundary Park site and proposed amenities.

The incumbent council has an exceptional opportunity on the 11th of December to allow permission for a development that will not only provide a massive boost to the local economy, but will also serve as a decisive and bold statement that Oldham is a town which welcomes business and investment with open arms.

The decaying mills that blight Oldham's landscape are analogous with the decline of civic pride that many Oldhamers have in the town. The development of the Boundary Park site offers an exceptional opportunity to demonstrate that Oldham is brashly moving away from a decayed past and evolving into a more modern and outward thinking town.

Opposition to a redevelopment of this size is unfortunate, yet inevitable. The Council Planning Committee should be vigilant to not allow few vociferous objections to the redevelopment to drown out and stymie a proposal that guarantees a whole ream of advantages and benefits to all the people of Oldham.

I strongly urge the planning committee to make 11th December 2007 a date that all Oldhamers will remember with pride and vote in favour of the redevelopment of the Boundary Park site.

    Yours, Faithfully,

    Michael J.A Wolstencroft.
