Yes, not missed a game at your place in the last thirty years or so. On Saturday I reckon I'll have watched games between the two all the way from the Championship thru to NL. How far we've both come . . .

You'll be in good company on Saturday. I live in the USA but I bought the Matchball Sponsorship package as a birthday present for my Oldham based brother in law who is a lifelong Shrimper. He'll be there with 9 mates. However, as a lifelong Oldham follower, I hope he doesn't go home with a smile!

  2. In Holland and have had past success to watch some games with just a few hitches. Today was a nightmare. I got audio most of the time. I got video for only about 10 minutes in the first half. I did all the recommended "fixes" but no joy...

Not sure I would recommend the platform

  3. @Armchair thanks for the info on Saturday .. I got it working OK - thankfully I had to leave at half time!

For other potential users my experience was the first 30 minutes streamed really well and good definition .. then after that it kept stalling and / or breaking up.  I had to relaunch the browser 3-4 times to get service back ...

  4. I live in the US and signed up last week for the full package.  This week I am in Holland.  Going through the club web site I can open ifollow video content and it streams fine, but apparently only for the standard content that UK users could get (interviews and highlights) ... I cannot see any link to watching a live match .. can anyone advise where the links are to watch the games live?  Or where the ifollow tech support is?  Any ideas appreciated!

  5. Living overseas for many years there are too many to mention, but the West Ham game stands out because it was the only Oldham game I saw screened live in Hong Kong ... I got up in the middle of the night and couldn't believe it as the goals kept going in ... still couldn't believe it after I got some sleep before work! Long before internet days, I had to buy the morning paper to see if I'd dreamt it !

  6. This is going to be an unpopular post so I'll prefix this with the fact that I spent last year's holiday going round the Normandy beaches, cemeteries and memorials. Here's a picture of the British Cemetery at Ranville, not far from Pegasus Bridge.

Beag_teeets ... I lived in France in the '80s and toured the normandy battlefields with my dad (now gone) ... there's a cafe at the Pegasus Bridge called Cafe Gondree, run at the time by the elderly daughter of the lady who ran it in the war .. Arlette Gondree had her own token of gratitude to the English Fallen ... if you had served in the Allied forces you could not buy a drink in her bar ... because they were free! She asked my dad if he had served and he said he was a couple of years too young, but his father had served (and was shot at Dunkirk) ... I paid for my drinks, but my dad's were free.

The point of this story is that we each have our own ways to pay our respects, and also the freedom not to, thanks to those who did fight. I personally do not wear a poppy, but I donate monthly to the British Legion and another injured soldiers charity. Each to their own!

  7. I was thrilled to find this video on YouTube, record crowd I think at York (and fans today think the current BP is dilapidated).

I was at the game, were you ?

What a free kick from Maurice Whittle, and a rare glimpse of Alan Groves.

Hiuglights start about 06:40 into the video - enjoy.

Also there! Thanks for the memories! And I recall a chron article about 50 + coaches going along the old A roads in convoy .. I was in one of them!

Now, I need someone else here to prompt my memory ... was it the same season we played York at home and won (maybe 2-0?) .. it was a Tuesday night match and City had a game cancelled ... huge crowd and we did a big "kop end copy" of you'll never walk alone in the chaddy, and my city mate (in the RR with his city friends said even they were impressed) ....

  8. I live between London and the USA, but born and bred in Oldham, season ticket holder in the 70's, and they will always be "my team". A couple of years ago I sponsored (paid for) 10 season tickets for the club to give to youngsters in the town, in the hope that some may eventually become life long supporters ... never heard anything afterwards .....

Similar time, and knowing my passion for the club, my brother in law bought a match day sponsorship for me and six mates as a birthday present when I was back in town. £xxx in pounds for the club. Good day out ... but again never heard anything again after the day out....

My point ... I'm not yet skint, I like my club, but I'm not so obsessed that I'm going to chase OAFC to give them money. But if they'd have followed up I'm sure I would have done another match day deal, and probably have sponsored a few more tickets for kids ...

With today's technology it must be simple to track people who already contributed and showed willing! (God knows how many insurance / banks / auto / furniture / supermarkets / charities etc etc chase me daily)

  9. I was programme sponsor for the Sheff utd match, and to be honest was quite unimpressed. I was the only sponsor for the match but didn't really get the service i was promised. The thing is, as a fan, i will always return, however a buisness or casual sponsor would not come back as it is just not worth it.

I said to the wife at the sheff utd match, seeing the sponsors lounge empty (we were in the corner flag suite) was quite worrying, and at the least they should open it as a bar if is not being used.

Times are hard and the club need every penny they can generate, take to day for instance, i got to the turnstile and realised i'd spent too much at the pub before hand ;-), so didn't have enough for the entrance i went to the club shop hoping to get cash back with a minimum spend, but was told this they dont do cash back. Another opportunity missed.

The whole commercial and hospitality department needs looking at and more effort put in.

  10. Same as Lancy Lad, never met her but wish her family all the best through this difficult time.

    R.I.P.

As an exile, it seems that so many times now when I go back home it's for a family funeral ... but it's always a "bitter sweet" occasion .. as I remember the people I knew and the lives they lived ... I also did not know Hilda, but as a life long supporter I can only imagine the events/years/matches she would have experienced ... the many "downs", but also so many high points over such a long time ...

God Bless and Rest in Peace

  11. ... watch another "Oldham nil" :disappointed:

left Cologne at 9.30, drove through Germany, Holland, Belgium and France ... Eurotunnel to England and got into the ground one minute before kick off ....

was it worth it - "no" :(

we should have been at least three down by half time ... two great saves, one missed open goal, one hit the post, and a couple of other clear chances ...

Reid seemed off the pace or not interested ... shape was better after he was replaced

Midfield distribution and man marking was poor ...

    Guess I'll skip Saturday!

  12. One of the best nights in Boundary Park history as goals from Adams, Ritchie, Barrett, Holden, Palmer and Ritchie saw West Ham trounced 6-0.

Would be nice to see again tomorrow.

    <a href="

    target="_blank">West Ham Goals</a>

West ham goals start at 5.30

I was living in Hong Kong at the time - well before internet, satellite or cable TV, but a local chanel showed the game ... I stayed up all night to watch, went to bed drunk and happy ... woke up next day and genuinely thought I'd been dreaming .. had to call Oldham to check!!

  13. The old Hollinwood Gas Works site. alongside the M60 and next to the tram stop/ main bus routes and surrounded by pubs and eating places. OMBC would like a gateway project for the toen..here it is.

I did mention this to AH but he said it was rejected because the land was contamaminted... but it is a big site and may well be 30 acres +.

two years ago I did a project building warehousing / light industrial estate on a 5+ acre former gas works site ... same contamination (perhaps), but that site cost just over £1M and 18 months to remediate suitable for construction ...

  14. I'm not sure how that relates to confusion?

Anyway, here is the story, which was on our official site, confirming that the building of the houses behind the Chaddy is a joint venture with a local developer:

    http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/page/NewsU...1798602,00.html

I can easily see how there is confusion. It's because in many such OAFC postings (including the one you have copied here) then the term "the club" appears to be flexibly interchangeable with "Brassbank" and the individual shareholders.

So this article says it is "a joint venture between the football club and Holroy Developments". BUT the club doesn't own the land. Brassbank does. So how is the club involved? Did Brassbank deed the land or development proceeds to the club?

And if Brassbank goes on to sell other parcels of land, then how does that benefit the club unless Brassbank or the individual shareholders elect to give further money to the club?

  15. After dropping into the Leon Knight-sporting lower reaches of Greek football, and a trek around non-league, he's established himself as a crunching midfield enforcer at Kansas City Wizards in the MLS. Eighteen games, two assists, one red card, and apparently an integral part of their team (third place in the MLS Eastern Conference).

Small world. I'm on my travels and had a beer today in a sports bar in Tokyo. There were 4 guys wearing "Wizards" shirts, and I had to ask which team it was!
