  1. I had no intention of coming today as long as Brill was starting so my mood soon changed on Friday when Amos arrived. Money is very tight at the moment and the thought of spending £40 on tickets which could go down the drain by a typical Brill blunder wasn’t an option.

I have said it all season if we made the play offs there is no way Brill wouldn’t cost us one of the 3 matches if we got to the final. It had David Miskelly and Alan Blayney written all over it.

I did turn up and spent my £40 on tickets for me and my good lady and felt more confidence in Amos than I ever have in Brill. Will go on record as saying I predict he will be the best all-round keeper we have had since Grant.

Only time will tell how good Amos will be for us but I am not having this Dean has been unlucky rubbish. From his first pre season match right through to his last game I have never had confidence in him and I doubt his back four ever have.

  2. Just had a glance at where we were this time last season and how far we were off auto promotion.

7th March 2009 season we were 4th and 4 points off auto promotion

6th March 2010 season we are 21st and 35 points off auto promotion

Other scary contrasts we had scored 32 goals at home compared to 12 this season.

34 points at home compared to 17.

25 points ahead of Swindon compared to 28 points behind.

The list could go on and on and on........

Swindon interests me though as a club with a similar budget to ours how we could have reversed 53 points on them in 12 months is beyond belief.

What is the whole point of my post well im not too sure myself other than justifying to myself why I havent been near BP on matchday for a long time and dont intend to come back unless there is a slim chance of actually scoring more than 1 goal in a match. Call me a terrible fan if you want but having a £20 train ticket on my days cost im looking at no change from £50 for a home match which just doent make sense knowing what exciting performace will be on show from the current boys in blue.

  3. Show me where I've ever even intimated that I've wanted Penney out? I've criticised the owners for giving him a pisspoor budget and quite rightly so. I've never doubted Penney's abilities as a good lower league manager. Whether he'll be showing that ability in the top-half of League One or the bottom-half is likely to become a little clearer after this week's two home games.

    Are you for real oafcprozac???????

I very rarely post on this board but do spend time reading posts on a regular basis.

To read your post dated 27th September 10.52 quote ‘I've criticised the owners for giving him a pisspoor budget and quite rightly so.’

Now from reading your original post at the start of thread I got the impression that you talked a lot of sense about Latics. However how you can come to the conclusion that TTA have provided DP with a piss poor budget is beyond me.

Are you aware that they have funded 19 signings (minimum 1 month loan deals) so far all listed below:

    Kazimierczak

    Brill

    Steer

    Gilbert

    Sheehan

    Jacobson

    Mckerr

    Worthington

    Holsdworth

    Abbott

    Purdie

    Furman

    Gregan

    Parker

    Colbeck

    :censored:

    Blackman

    Byfield

    Ojapah

Now if you do your maths on the list above you will work out that it is far from a piss poor budget and dare I say it may even be up on 08/09.

Can you imagine spending an absolute fortune week in week out on OAFC to hear such quotes from you?

Now is a time for everyone to get behind the team, management owners etc

Here's to 3 point against MK Dons

  4. just checked the league, were six points out of the play offs, with eight games left. i thought my head was broke, because i thought 8x6=24. so i got the calculator out and did 8x6, what did it say? 24. so i thought maybe the table is wrong on tv, maybe were twenty five points adrift? so i looked in the paper and its only six points. so then i decided that loads of people on here are the illegitimate result of a gang bang between that fat russell guy, derek acorah, mystic meg and d'ana troi. so i bow down to your abilities, and wont go again because youre so brilliant.

I think most people are aware that 5 of scunthorpe's remaining 8 games are at home where they have been very strong all season.

We are 7 point off them because of their goal difference which means if they win 5 games between now and the end of the season we need to win all 8 hence why everyone thinks its all over.

Lets hope we are all proved wrong i really really hope we are.

  5. I know there are lots of different threads about shez and people are getting a bit annoyed but I think this takes us down a slightly different route.

Hughes and Lewi have played alongside each other 11 times this season with the following outcome:

    Played 11 Won 6 Drawn 4 Lost 1 Points 22 (46 games 92 points)

If this form was based over 46 games it would have gained us 92 points which based on last season table we would have finished top.

After these 11 games Lewi had scored 4 and been involved in many other goals and Hughes had scored 6 so they were not a million miles apart at this stage.

This would have meant based on 46 league games they would have scored around 40 between them which I don’t think is unrealistic. That works out at 1 in 3 for lewi and 1 in 2 for Hughes (which he has gone on to do)

Games without lewi and Hughes upfront together look like this

    Played 26 Won 9 Drawn 9 Lost 8 Points 34 (46 games 63 points)

If this form was based over 46 games it would have gained us 63 points which based on last season table we would have finished 13th.

Oh and the goals scored from other strikers when lewi has not been in the team stand at a massive 2 in 26 games.

Well done Shez for messing everything up this season please close the door on your way out and hold the door open for Jim Gannon on his way in please.

  6. I think you have hit the nail on the head there. I think the sense of apathy for all things latics is much much deeper this time round, and I would agree with your answer to an extent. Develop the clubs youth players and blood the youngsters. Like you said we wont be gunning for promotion straight away, chances are we may be fighting at the other end of the table for a while, but we cant keep spending beyond our means season after season.

Not only that, if we become well known for blooding youngsters, then this may make Oldham Athletic a much more attractive option to some prospective footballers, on the basis that they are going to have a bloody good chance of getting through to the first team.

These posts scream JIM GANNON who has to be 1st choice when Shez leaves.

I would try and get him in for our final 9 games to give us a fighting chance of getting us in the play offs this year.

  7. i could play and make run after run and never touch the ball or put my foot in, would that make be the best player on the pitch. he didnt give us enough today, i like you belive he will be better in the centre and hope he gets to prove it

and i belive i know quite a bit abit this game they call football and to say that lee was the best player on the pitch today shows just what you know.

he didnt see enough of the FOOTBALL for you to back up your earlier statement

Well i thought lee looked quality today so thats 2 who know nothing about football then

  8. Simple really - buy a ticket for someone you know back home who doesn't go much (or at all). Maybe pick on someone with a young kid, try and capture them that way.

Good idea in theory but im not from oldham got introduced to the mighty from the number 1 fan at the time and even he doesnt go anymore after following them everywhere in the world.

I live in preston but from cleveleys originally. I pay quite a few of my 'premiership following' mates in throughout the season and they do enjoy it everyime they come. Think we all need to try to bring as many mates as possible through the gates although be a lot a better if we didnt have to pay them in.

  9. :shock::huh::blink::wacko::lol:

Sorry Cab - but I think i echo singe exactly!

I bloody love the club, and the amount of my harded earned money that has been ploughed in there, and on travel to see them, is hughe - however the concept of paying when I dont go is just, well, ridiculous!

Now, dont get me wrong, in different circumstances of course I would be willing to dip in my pocket, ie if we are heading tot the wall again, or even if they said 'if we dont get £100k by end of the month we will sell taylor and hughes" but to just pay for not turning up... well it just aint going to happen!

I still think there are other more realistic options - ie. a 10 match mini season ticket which will increase revenue from exiles - or even how about a new membership scheme - where we pay £30-£50 odd a season to get dibs on match tickets quicker for big games..... Money is never the issue stopping me going to Latics but to just throw money in the pot is unreal!

Also - why are you picking on the exiles? Surely the stay at homes who live in oldham and just cant be bothered turning up are more 'to blame' (if anyone is) than someone who ahs to pay £100 for the round trip...

Finally - are you Simon Corney? :tongue1:

At which point did i pick on exiles???????????? The exile bit wasnt that they dont want to go to home games its that they possibly cant awlays afford the train fares so normally end up going to local away games instead hence the club dont make any money.

The point i was trying making here was that for me to go on saturday its costing me an extra £40 in train fares but there is no way i wouldnt go when the club are pleading for support the way they are. The whole purpose of such a scheme was to hopefully generate enough money to not have to sell a player such as Tay in january which would be some way funded by fans who cant get to home games (our main revenue stream). With family who live in NZ who are oldham mad i know for a fact they dont put anything into the club in a financial way at present but may well if something was in place. I personally feel everything has to be geared towards keeping this squad together but without. Maybe the whole matchday ticket when not attending is a none starter but i think we have to try and come up with something before january.

I have said this before and im sure i will say it again when we were in the Prem we had 5 season tickets in my household now we have zero. Now that isnt that they dot love the club anymore there are various different reasons most related to cost of getting to home match's i.e. traveling from bristol, NZ etc. I just wish i could think of way of getting them to dip their hands in their pockets. There must be 100's if not 1000's in this position

  10. Right im not too sure how this suggestion will go down but its worth a try.

As stated in an earlier post from me i was supposed to be going to hull for the weekend to see a mate but have since changed plans to make sure i get down to BP to help get somewhere close to the target of 6,000. Now this is costing me an additional £40 in train fares which the club wont make anything from but does sting me in the pocket. How viable would it be to set up a matchday donation scheme where exiled fans or fans that would normally go but cant make it could pay into???????

If this was available i would certainly pay my £18 for my ticket into this donation scheme if i couldnt make it. Now either i am just mad or would there be other exiles who would be willing to do this to help the club out on matchdays?

Over the years this may not have worked as the whole purpose of this is to create revenue to keep the exciting squad we have built together. In past years there wasnt a great deal to keep together but we really are on the verge of something very special in my opinion. Surely all these fans we have based down south who generally only buy away tickets would be interested in investing in such a scheme?????

Would be interesting to hear what people think about this

    Chris

  11. well i was meant to be going to my friends in hull for the weekend but have now arranged to sneak a trip for us both to BP inbetween on saturday as a result of the recent statements from the club this week. Lets hope a few more follow suit and we get a half decent crowd on saturday.

PS i have a got a suggestion that im goin to put in a seperate thread as it may get lost in this 1 and is a slightly different topic to the crowd on saturday

  12. We will have the same numbers of league wins as we had in the 1st week in November last season. Would also be a 5th league win on the bounce including end of last season.

As crazy as it sounds i think this is more important than Leeds away. I would love to see us get into the habit of beating teams from the lower end of the table.

  13. Sorry for the stupid title but couldnt think how to put this

How many people on here or people you know are going tomorrow that didnt go to 1st game last season?

Only reson why i am asking this is that i am in that bracket after the diehard 4500. I am certainly going and coming with a couple of mates. This is down the the postive vibes that have come out of the club throughout the summer. I went to 5 home games last season which i know is shocking but i have matched that number with pre season games this summer home and away.

I really hope this post doesnt get the 'why were you not here last season' response. The whole perpose of this post is to hopefully highlight a few stay aways that may be coming back this season.

I think a good start is so important because a home game for me cost me round about £60 with train tickets, match ticket, programme, drink etc and im more than willing to pay this every home game this season if we can see some progress on the pitch.

For the record i am more excited about this season than any i can remember for a long long time. Now knowing latics like a do this optimism should normally be shattered by about 3.30 on saturday but i just got a feeling that things are going to be very different this year.

Here's to a fantastic season with some really good memories for us all to keep

  14. I noticed on post earlier someone said he was gash. Am i an absolutly terrible judge on players or did anyone else think he looked alrite today?????

As for Phillips the lad is class. Also liked the look of the other left winger on trial

Was encouraged by todays performance. We looked very tidy in possession in both halfs and considering the wind they had to deal with i think thats pretty good going.
