Just read that Boro are after Westwood from Weds and Konstantopoulos is ready for signing a new deal.....so it looks that Ripley will be surplus......so you never know!!

Also, with all the talk of more wingers don't forget Flynn can play wide. Once Tope signs up I'm not sure we'll be as desperate for another as some make out...
Both McLaughlin & Dummigan can do it on the right aswell.
Could be a big big season for McLaughin. ....and if he fires, I think the team fires...

And/or Flynn...
Correct.....I actually forgot about Flynn...all told - if we can get the positions sorted we all know about AND get a pitch that will help our ball players - we should only be looking one way..
One things for sure, it's got to be a lot more positive than we've all been used to!!
-
Holloway did a fantastic job holding it up on his own on our 'cabbage patch' pitch - but he is a far better player than just that - imagine what we could get out of him on a decent pitch!
-
Not sure about the cabbage patch....the club have finally done something about the pitch and having spoke to one of the groundstaff, they are quietly confident this season will be different...
-
The problem with winning ugly is the grief the team will get from our larger than average 'moaning section'.
It is not good for morale - we need to be fully behind whatever way Shez wants us to play...he wants us out of this god forsaken league as much as we all want it and he needs our full support at all times....by the way youngen, that is very harsh on Banks....he definitely came to the fore last season when he was given guidance and direction and I'm sure will do again this season.....he is a quality 'ball' player...

When you've just finished a season watching Ngoo being hopeless Davies is a massive upgrade.
Exactly......we are or have been a struggling League 1 club.....Craig Davies is a massive improvement on recent seasons and way above expectations...

I think this is a decent signing and hopefully could turn out to be better than that. My view of our preparation so far is firstly that we have kept everybody I would have liked to have kept from last year (Ripley excepted of course), secondly have got rid of those who didn't quite do enough for me and then have made 2 solid signings who have proved reasonably successful at this level in the past and who I expect to be starters in the first XI. Plus it's not the end of June and we must have over 3/4 of the squad in place. I think we are heading in the right direction.
Great call...we have all seen what Davies can do...even played for Wales and he wouldn't be joining us if he'd had a decent record recently as somebody has said......however, Davies or Ngoo is an absolute no brainer and definatly improves us up front..
-
Wow...didn't see that coming...think he and Holloway could be good...but not sure they'll be prolific..
-
Both are great..especially the away.
-
Looks like we've done ok....2 at home over Xmas and shrews away NYD...Blackpool a Aug Bank Holiday....doesn't look like any long Tues night journeys....and doesn't look like any really tough runs of games....that'll do nicely..

I haven't been on owtb for over a year now but with today's sad news I just had to log on and read what I knew would be glowing tributes to the big fella.
I knew Gordon from the day he first started at the club back in 1986. I got to know that when you went in on a match day that welcoming friendly face would be there ready and waiting to welcome all and sundry to another Saturday afternoon "offering" as he would call it from OAFC. Maybe that's what was behind his wicked sense of humour because by god was it wicked. All sorts of stories have circulated around the club over the years and you could guarantee that at least 1 person would suggest it was started by Gordy. You just never knew if he was on the wind up.
I've gone into the club at all times of day over the years and he was always engaged with someone. He became the contact for fans from all parts of the uk and further afield, and he became a great friend to all who met him.
For me though his greatest work was in the summer of 2003 when the club was at deaths door. The work he put in in those months was staggering, the work he did in helping get that legends game on the liaising with the players etc etc was remarkable and you'll have seen the respect from past players all day today. Gordon was a huge link that has help hold the pieces together over the years and you just can't buy what he has given the club
in recent years and particularly during the cup runs of 3 years ago he was the contact for the major media outlets. His passion and assistance shone through and it's a major reason why the club is held in high regard outside the fan base.
Our club has had many good people work behind the scenes over the years, all different to Gordon but people who go about their job and make it the place it is. They rarely get the credit they deserve and I'm therefore so glad to see the huge amount of tributes that have been paid today to an absolute starlet.
I have only occasionally listened to Latics Player because I'm usually at the game. But the rare time I tuned in I could get the feel of the game as if I was there.
The chance he got recently to become football secretary was a huge privilege to him, he felt he was taking himself to the next level.
i'll finish by saying he was already at the top level, as a servant of the club, as an honest welcoming face to the public and media but most importantly as a friend. He will be missed by one and all.
Football isn't all about the players it's about the clubs, and people like Gordon Lawton make those clubs.
RIP Gordon Lawton
Fantastic tribute Harry Dowd.....
You are absolutely spot on..??
-
Very very sad....what a bloke....definitely had blue blood and what a servant to the club.....will be very sorely missed by all and massive condolences to his family and friends..RIP Gordy.

It's a funny one isn't it.
Anything that went about a foot either way of him went in.
He just looked lost to me in full size nets...no presence at all..

DMac is a cracking follow on Twitter and always says it as it is - loves a good Q and A session and not just with Posh fans...good read

Wow...great question...
My earliest memories of signings go back to Alan Young..
Followed pretty quickly by Vic Halom, John Hurst, Carl Valentine, Simon Stainrod, Kenny Clements, Ryszard Kowenicki, Paul Futcher, Rodger Wylde, Tony Henry, Roger Palmer etc....... I could go on and on..

Ian Ormanroyd always had a blinder against us so I will add him to the list, I then wished he never played for us as he was gash.
Remember him ripping us apart in that FACUP replay at an icy Valley Parade - HT was 5-0 and they announced at HT that tickets for the next round would go on sale after the game!!!

Main ones for me :
Edwards - 1st ever play offs
Hughes - obviously
Kanchelskis - for the semi replay
Furlong - play off semi
Jemson - wembley
Robins - the other semi
There are plenty of others, but not with the same importance..
