Oooh Roger Millford! Remember an assist in the fog for Nick Henry v Chelski. Ahhhh them were the days...
E4e
HAPPY
Yeah I remember that too. Always seemed to give us the benefit in 50/50 decisions and we seemed to win when he reffed us.
-
nobody likes to see home grown talent go down like has happened in the past...but points are more important than any one player,and we cant carry passengers,simple as
+1
That's the bigger picture...
-
I liked the way he explained his decisions every time they were questioned, however, how their centre half didn't get at least a booking when he pulled Guy back and he was the last man I do not know. He was however, much better than the usual dross we normally get and it did look like he enjoyed himself and it was the first time I ever recall a ref getting a round of applause from the entire stadium and that was a good touch.
Nice to see that fellow 'tics still have a degree of quality in them.
Anyone remember Rodger Millford? He was always a popular ref a BP. A bit of a lucky charm for us in the good old days!
-
have to agree,used his discretion superbly,calmed it all down and let the teams play,thought there was probably a few more cards to be shown for a couple of challenges,but fair play to him..
i especially enjoyed his banter with leevsypunk...was funny
Mark clearly enjoyed himself. Good luck to him

I think this "doesn't want to play" stuff is bollocks, the kid is a Latics fan why wouldn't he want to play? He was interviewed by GMR on Tuesday, I didn't hear it but my Mum did, she said it sounds like he has depression or something.
Well if he is depressed - he won't want to play, will he? I didn't say he is not a Latics Fan but we are in a relegation battle in League One. If Chris isn't in the right frame of mind (much the same as 'he doesn't want to play') he should not play.
-
hes getting stick because he cant be arsed...the last 5 or 6 games i have watched at bp he has been utter gash....but every now and again he shows he can do it...
he didnt want to keep going for the second half at all,if it was a fitness test it was piss poor,making his way to other side of pitch then kicking the floor and keep looking at the tunnel,then shook there players hand and shuffled off towards halfway line...
i hope he has had a bust up with dp and he has tore the soft sod a new one in the dressing room...and i hope he drops him to teach him a lesson,he thinks hes billy big balls and doesnt need to put the effort in..he hasnt got the stomach for a relegation fight and we dont need to carry players like him.
+1
How many times this season has he 'gone down injured' in the first 15 mins. He doesn't want to play for whatever reason - so get someone in who does. NOBODY is bigger than the club.
-
Serious?
He came out 5 mins early during half time and attempted to sulk/walk/trot/jog across the pitch and back again and carried straight on up the tunnel. I'm guessing that was his fitness test?
The lad has no fight or bottle and if there's any club still out there remotely interested then we should be on the phone to them right now.

GINNA
He took his shirt off and threw it at the bench. Princess Chris...

Lovely stuff, hope all is well. Congratulations

Only just heard about the protest, but it seems more like a kiddie march rather than a proper organized protest.
That said, I am genuinely amazed at the number of supporters / pro-Penney fans we still have! What the hell are you lot seeing that the rest of us aren't? The guy is a clueless pillock, who doesn't have a Plan A let alone a Plan B. He doesn't consider winning games all that important and is devoid of any emotion whatsoever on the touchline, preferring to play with his bollocks rather than try anything tactical to switch things around on the pitch!
Love Oldham, Hate Penney - Sack Him NOW!
Silly talk IMHO Latics4Ever. Penney seems like a decent bloke who has been let down by his players and injuries.
I would agree that he struggles with changing the team around and appears to be punching above his weight in League One but as for this season, the bigger picture is that a new manager would take too long to get to know the players and the upheaval of changing managers now would possibly kill off our survival hopes anyway.

Winston Churchill
4 June 1940
"I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.
At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of His Majesty's Government-every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation.
The British Empire and the French Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.
Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail.
We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."
COME ON OLDHAM - This is more important than Dave Penney...

Al Pacino's Inch By Inch speech from Any Given Sunday
I don't know what to say really.
Three minutes
to the biggest battle of our professional lives
all comes down to today.
Either
we heal
as a team
or we are going to crumble.
Inch by inch
play by play
till we're finished.
We are in hell right now, gentlemen
believe me
and
we can stay here
and get the :censored: kicked out of us
or
we can fight our way
back into the light.
We can climb out of hell.
One inch, at a time.
Now I can't do it for you.
I'm too old.
I look around and I see these young faces
and I think
I mean
I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make.
I uh....
I pissed away all my money
believe it or not.
I chased off
anyone who has ever loved me.
And lately,
I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror.
You know when you get old in life
things get taken from you.
That's, that's part of life.
But,
you only learn that when you start losing stuff.
You find out that life is just a game of inches.
So is football.
Because in either game
life or football
the margin for error is so small.
I mean
one half step too late or to early
you don't quite make it.
One half second too slow or too fast
and you don't quite catch it.
The inches we need are everywhere around us.
They are in ever break of the game
every minute, every second.
On this team, we fight for that inch
On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us
to pieces for that inch.
We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch.
Cause we know
when we add up all those inches
that's going to make the :censored:ing difference
between WINNING and LOSING
between LIVING and DYING.
I'll tell you this
in any fight
it is the guy who is willing to die
who is going to win that inch.
And I know
if I am going to have any life anymore
it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch
because that is what LIVING is.
The six inches in front of your face.
Now I can't make you do it.
You gotta look at the guy next to you.
Look into his eyes.
Now I think you are going to see a guy who will go that inch with you.
You are going to see a guy
who will sacrifice himself for this team
because he knows when it comes down to it,
you are gonna do the same thing for him.
That's a team, gentlemen
and either we heal now, as a team,
or we will die as individuals.
That's football guys.
That's all it is.
Now, whattaya gonna do?
Watch it here Dave...

At least Woolas' reply shows he has some knowledge of what has gone on and that he puts some thought into his reply...as opposed to 'I can't be arsed to read the proposal' and "I'm an egg-chaser'. Jesus...
+1 Phil Woolas always seems like a genuine bloke with his feet on the ground to me.

but i have to say,please plase please...no more lets get ready to rumble..its so cheesey and tacky
Phoenix Nights.

I know of 4 people who are only still going this season because they have a season ticket and have said that if penney is still in charge next season they will not be renewing them. If i know 4 how many have the same attitude. I worry that attendances will be down to 2500 next season coz it really is shiite to watch and certainly aint worth 20 quid
I know of 2 in the main stand paddock. Both have kids too

No More Heroes (at Latics) Any More!
Something better change
-
You lot can't depress me tonight, I'm off to see the Stranglers. Dave Penney out of my head for a night, and with any luck, I will wake up from my drunken stupor sometime tomorrow we'll be rid. ByeBye Dave.
What ever happened to..... Dave Penney? He had tactics that made our eyes burn
-
Am I the only one who thinks that is a sure fire way of obtaining relegation ?
No I agree too. Dux is not a coach - see reserve results since he took over...
-
Yeah, but never mind that, we got 3 pts at Stockport, rah, rah, rah, rah, rah.....................
We did our best to lose that game too against 10 men
-
Hope TTA hold their nerve this time because and let DP continue into next season, because unless you're not a former Latics player you ain't getting a chance.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
The challenges of being an Oldham Athletic Stakeholder Singe! Roll on Stockport...

Really? I don't think when we've lost that he's actually had many saves to make. The defence has vastly improved over the months and Brill's had one or two saves in a match to make. Which at times he does. And when he does, he then follows it up with an error. Colchester's the perfect example...saves a 1 on 1 in the 1st half and then in the 2nd half comes out like a clown for a ball he's never going to win. That was about all he had to do that game! 0-1.
The thing is bb80, Brill is improving. How good will he get in the end? With encouragement from the fans of course
-
Haha...more bollocks being spouted on here...I'm sure when the penalty went in, it was "game over", "no plan b" etc. etc. blah....blah!!!
Penney plays 3 strikers...but supposedly he went to shut up shop and not take the game to them! Erm....yeah, ok lads! He tried something different and it didn't work hence he took Price off. Penney did make a mistake (Joe Royle did once...) today by playing 3 strikers...it unbalanced us and we sounded poor in 1st half for it. Better in the 2nd half but nothing magic. A draw sounded the right result.
5 games out of 6 at home now!!! Get behind ya f***ing team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about 'yesterday's news'...how about last week's?
Good to see the official partner of the club putting a positive spin on things.
Mr Bates appears to be the stereotypical neighbour from hell with a new found purpose in life, thanks to the stadium plans. Maybe I'm wrong...
But the Chron knows exactly what it is doing.
Edit - decided to use The Queen's English after all!!
