  1. Had to really bite my tongue in the main stand last night.....5 mins in we took a quick goal kick to Mellor and 6 passes later Dayton was in behind but scuffed his shot over the bar...the fans were quite rightly on their feet...fast forward to the 2nd half and some were screaming for it to be hit long. Rooney won 1 header all night I think.....nothing against him as I thought Keogh was excellent but his game is better with ball to feet (back to goal) and then bringing the wingers into play. we have to continue playing the ball out of defence and there will be a lot of occasions when Smith or Baxter lose the ball in a dangerous position but overall we will create opportunities playing this way. Lumping it forward will not work with the players we have. I just hope the 'home' contingent stick with what LJ and the team are buying into especially with such a young side.

  2. I don't know about you, but I just cant wait for this season to start. Everything LJ is doing is positive and his team is going to surprise quite a few of the big boys in the league. It will be good to have some home wins for a change. If we can be disciplined and not give away stupid fouls like last season and be lucky with injuries I can see us up with the best. As I live in Bristol and it costs me £150 a pop to attend I will be splashing the cash big time this season.

  3. Well said OAFC1955 I could not have put it better. Me and my son came up from Bristol for the game. Typical latics when they get a half decent crowd they go and blow it. I dont mind losing its just that there was no passion or commitment.Felt totally deflated and let down by the lads today. Also noticed the complete lack of atmosphere by the club in any pre match build up. Time they woke up to the fact that they are in the ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS and are in competition with countless others for our money. I just want to feel good at being with my football club and it didnt cut it today.

  4. That was typical Latics....get a half decent crowd in and play like 11 strangers! Tactically we are a bloody shambles and yet again our home form has been abysmal My son came with me yesterday and has yett to witness a league victory!!!

We have injuries in key positions but you cannot use it as a reason for yesterday's debacle.....we have players out there who haven't a clue as to what they should be doing, Dickov's been raving about the players in training but put them in a competitive game and it all goes tits up!

We played 4 4 2 ish again yesterday by putting square pegs in round holes, surely Parker and Mellor would be better suited playing as wingbacks so why not play Tarky in a back three. We are so so predictable and must seem like cannon fodder to visiting scouts/managers.

As for individual performances it would be difficult to pick out anybody that played with any purpose. Diamond was earlier described as similar to Guy Branston...I don't think he's that good,he couldn't pass water and is truly awful...the standard in the SPL must be shocking!

Morais is Morais, all fancy tricks and flicks and little else...he is 100mph every time he gets the ball and it is plain to see why he's been here there and everywhere. Furman tried hard as usual but without Weolowski had no support whatsoever but the lack of movement up top was a big factor.

I feel really sorry for Smith who always gets the last few minutes when we are invariably chasing the game and it must be really frustrating for the lad...he never received the ball once when facing goal and instead had to constantly try and get on the end of hopeful punts up field from Diamond and Clarke whose only other options were a sideways pass or one back to the keeper such was the lack of movement further up the pitch.

Kuqi has been a cracking signing as far as goals are concerned but the lack of service from ineffective wingers has resulted in him dropping deep to get the ball and this has confirmed that he will only continue to be effective for us when he is in and around the penalty area!

We have key players to come back into the side like Reid, Diallo, Mvoto and hopefully Simpson and.once we are back to full strength we should be OK, however, unless our inconsistencies can be addressed and our tactical prowess improved another mid table finish beckons.

A good performance at Anfield and a Wembley appearance in the JPT would be regarded as a cracking season and the monies raised could enable us to have another assault at getting ourselves into the Championship. It will be Dickov's third season in charge and if we could keep the nucleus of this team and add a little more quality in key areas we could hopefully achieve our goal

  5. Well said Midsblue it seems that there are to many people who revel in anything negative about the club instead of looking forward. We have a good manager in PD and i am sure that things will turn for the better. The rumours only put doubt in fans thinking about getting a season ticket and this is not helping matters. So if you are thinking about a season ticket GET ONE and LOOK FORWARDS not back.

  6. As early as next week - once the season is over - the club should make a statement regarding next season and the immediate/short-term future of the club.

If administration is looming and budgets are being cut back dramatically then potential ST holders should be informed so that they aren't misled and we go into next season with animosity on the terraces.

IMHO I think it's unlikely and the rumour-mongers are just that. There's a number of positive factors to consider -

    1. Evolution - new badge and club promoting evolution and a new future

    2. M'voto - a great player for us at this level - is in talks with the club to stay and genuinely loves the club ... don't you think he'll be one player questioning the prospects for next year?

    3. Dickov - is talking about next season, making reference to a list of transfer targets and progress ... don't you think a young, ambitious manager won't also be questioning the ambitions of the club and sounds positive?

    4. Change in council - increased support for finding a new home for the club and I reckon securing a location for the new stadium will gather pace in the close season and with this will come renewed financial support into the club

    5. Our youth team - extremely promising and already with have some great home-grown players in the first team and will be looking to stake a claim next season

    6. Strong nucleus of players contracted to the club for next season - Taylor, Furman, Morais, Brooke, Black

    7. Tenacity & determination - the fans and the officials have been on a constant struggle for the last five or six seasons but battle on and SC gives the impression that he will not allow the club to fail and will continue to find a solution in funding and securing not only the short but also long-term future of the club

    8. Loyalty of fans - continual promise then failure hasn't beaten the passion and loyalty of the hardcore contingent of fans who continue to buy STs or attend as many games as possible if they cannot commit

Keep all those positives in mind because we have two routes in the summer - admit defeat or fight on. Via the evolution we have changed our official motto and this evokes a more positive approach to the future ... "Keep the Faith" is more blind optimism whereas "We are Latics" sends a statement of togetherness, pride, determination and tenacity to continue to fight and strive for success.

The only thing hitting the fan next season, in my opinion, is a bright future right between our eyes!
