No question of aiming to create a Championship outfit and expand the fanbase like other clubs in similar-size towns seem able to manage then?

you obviously don't remember heartbreak of 1st season of play offs, anyway, this wasn't about the playoffs back then, or eventual promotion. Do you think, as a club & as a team in general, Latics would survive more than 1 season in the championship, I would love to see them go up, but I would hate to see them come straihght back down , that could set the club back years. It would be very hard , due to the demographics of the town, to increase the fanbase dramatically, although I do agree, a promotion is the most likely thing to attract new fans. Then you get the old chestnut of longer term fans complaining about the johnny come latelies & bandwagon jumpers who will turn out if Latics make play-offs, & these could well be the future fans of Latics.

I've only ever seen Latics play in this division, but, i think I've watched every other team either :-

• Get promoted and some have come back down.
• Get promoted, get relegated and then get relegated again.
• Get relegated and some have come back up.
• Get relegated, get promoted and then get promoted again.
• Get promoted, promoted and promoted.

We are (I think) the only team that's been in this division for 11 years and if anything, it is the sheer frustration of watching other teams on similar (not all of them) budgets and levels of support, getting promoted. We can point out that we are still top six, which is good, considering all the changes in personnel, but it is looking increasingly likely that we won't finish in the top six.

 

He doesn't deserve to be sacked, but he does need to take a long, hard look at some of the decisions he had made regarding signings, squad choices and maybe even his managerial style. We started like a train, we are now like a horse and cart.

 

Sorry, but I'm not confident of promotion this season.

It was the same from 73-74 when we spent the next 18 or so seasons in the old div2, usually in the bottom half, never once threatening promotion until the advent of the play offs. Oldham are a small club, probably to small for a spot in the championship.What do you think would be worst for the club, another couple of seasons challenging in this division, or 1 demoralising season in championship, which is what I fear would be the result of promotion At least it seems they are in & around the play off spots every year under Shez. To be honest, I was very surprised to see so many wanting him out .

That 3rd goal by Benzema at the san siro should have sealed the tie & the 2nd leg of CL semi here tonight should be a formality, who would youy rather play in final from the other evenly balanced semi, Barcelona or Meadowbank Thistle ?

I hope Mark Hughes is very successful at City, I have a lot of time for both him & City.

this is my first season in this league, and ive only just realised that you need to wheel and deal each week. not sure i like it like that, but there are clearly a few on here who have an astute eye for players/ form/ manager descsions. you cant play this week by week, as im slowly discovering, you need to be three weeks ahead! some of the scores people are on are mint. hats off to you lads.

That's what I was hoping the SKy 1 would be like, won Rugby League 1 here in Brisbane [beating aussies was sweet] & got the taste for it,picking unknown players, watching them perform & hen trading hem at high price, but the one I am in is just a case of spending your money, then swapping for players who are doing well at no extra cost. Would have entered div 1league but haven't got a clue about most of players in that league other than Oldhams [who I only read about anyway]

just so you know, if you are lower than 13th in stevie j's league, you are being beaten by a seven year old lol! although the opions expressed on here did lead me to expect this to occur! didnt know there was more than one oldham fans league, so when we both join this weekend, many of you will drop two places..

Anybody in the skysports league? do any of these other leagues have a system where the values of players go up or down depending on how they perform? this makes it far more interesting but the Sky 1 doesn't & this has allowed less talented coaches to keep pace [ well overtake me actually

well there will be at least 2 more on the crowd figure from April 3rd onwards, really hope it's to witness a promotion push. Can't wait to show my aussie partner what real football atmosphere is all about[ chavs aside]. Great start from the lads, watched the masters recently & it was amazing watching Ritchie & the lads run around again in Latics shirts & the support was amazing.

If we had had that penalty given then the game wouldve been different. I tell you what check the highlights and you can judge for yourself but I have seen them and the ref waived it on. Your disallowed goals were offsides and clearly show on the highlights
