  1. Ha! This is precisely what pisses people off the most! A great result today and full credit to Shez and they players for that, but it makes it even more of a mockery of the performance/effort/result on tuesday night. Sooooooo :censored: frustrating that we can't find some consistency!!

Do you not think that Sheridan could have put that same team out on Tuesday? (with the possible exception of Jones) Whittaker and Windass didn't even make the bench today. He has to admit to himself that he made a big mistake on Tuesday and hopefully realises that consistency in the team selections equals consistency on the pitch.

  2. Sheridan's decision to drop Hines, Golbourne and Budtz paid off. It's the way it should have been at home to Bristol. Jones probably could have played but Sheridan obviously thought it came before he had chance to assess him properly.

I know Eardley was at fault giving away the penalty, but it was two of his crosses that led to the goals. Send Hines back. Golbourne, at least, is a handy player to have as back-up.

  3. You have to feel, that with Windass' recent comments regarding his returning to Hull, he will be gone sooner, rather than later. in which case, this is one loan signing that is probably justified. I just hope this one pays dividends.

This situation could have been prevented had we persevered with Alessandra/Hughes up front and not got rid of Davies.

    Just a thought. :)

  4. Small clubs that have been promoted whilst we've been in this league...

Grimsby came down with us in 97/98 but won the play offs to secure an immediate return

    Walsall finished second in 98/99

Gillingham won the play offs in 99/00

Rotherham finished second, Walsall won the play offs in 2000/01

    Crewe finished 2nd in 02/03

Luton pissed the league in 04/05

Colchester and Southend winning promotion in 05/06

    Scunny walking it in 06/07

Donny winning the play offs last season

All small clubs that have had their day in the sun since we have dropped like a feckin' stone, and people ask why some of us are sooooooo disillusioned!

    Thanks for that list.

Four of them are now in League 2

    Four in League 1

One still to be relegated

What about Blackpool. Similar size and still up there, although with wealthy backers. Now they've lost Grayson, they may be on their way back.

What annoys me the most is witnessing the likes of Doncaster going non-league and then waving bye-bye on the way past us. I know they are relatively wealthy and bought every other player we were interested in. Still annoying, 'though.

  5. He was brought as a centre half given the lack of options there and the upcoming suspensions .... then shez either HAS to or believes he must play the players he's brought in on loans and he replaces a RB who'd finally found some of the form which makes him such a hot prospect. Personally he's not a FB but did an okay job untill being switched to LB where he had no idea wot to do - didnt know where taylor wanted the ball and kept htting to Lewi's head .... did shez not reckon this would happen when he brought in 6 new players in a month??

He wont play Lewi or Eardley for a while now but one wonders what either is thinking ... Lewi plays well for the first 2 months - strikes up a good understanding with Hughes and albeit not scoring himself, we were scoring and winning games comfortably. Then after a couple of dodgy results both Davies and O'Grady are sent out for football and a loan signing (ormerod) replaces young Lewi who'd done little wrong - his game is never gonna provide 20goals per season directly, but it baffles me that shez cant see wot he is missing as a goal threat w/o lewi's link-up cos its so damn evident. Gets back in scores a hatrick against top of the league and then performs badly like 10others against Yeovil and he aint been seen since thanks to a dancer and a pensioner, who between them have scored 2 goals in 3months .... POOR BLOODY LEWIS !!!!! As for Eardley - best game of season at Leicester at FB and then BANG shez signs a centre half who aint had a look in at a premier league club renowned for blooding youngsters and is shifted in to a midfield role where despite lack of experience (esp. on right of a three) performs admirably in a easy home win and then is shafted as returning players (Taylor) mean existing young players are once again dropped for Shez's glory boys loanees.

    Excellent reply.

  6. I've only ever seen Latics play in this division, but, i think I've watched every other team either :-

    • Get promoted and some have come back down.
    • Get promoted, get relegated and then get relegated again.
    • Get relegated and some have come back up.
    • Get relegated, get promoted and then get promoted again.
    • Get promoted, promoted and promoted.

We are (I think) the only team that's been in this division for 11 years and if anything, it is the sheer frustration of watching other teams on similar (not all of them) budgets and levels of support, getting promoted. We can point out that we are still top six, which is good, considering all the changes in personnel, but it is looking increasingly likely that we won't finish in the top six.

He doesn't deserve to be sacked, but he does need to take a long, hard look at some of the decisions he had made regarding signings, squad choices and maybe even his managerial style. We started like a train, we are now like a horse and cart.

Sorry, but I'm not confident of promotion this season.

  7. ....how are they supposed to stay fit then if there not even getting games in the reserve team???

Exactly! Looked more like a youth team line up, only Bell, Lee, Lomax, Black and Ferriera included. Surely there was scope to play Stam, Maher, Stephens and even Alessandra (I know he came on last night, but surely that can't count as much more than a kick-around).

In fact, rather than getting them in for extra training, he should have played the squad that played last night (barring injuries) in the Reserve game.

Does it suggest they might play against Millwall ?

Even if there is the remotest possibility of them playing against Millwall, they should have been in the reserve squad, it has to be better than a half-hearted training session.

....We have the players/combinations in our squad to batter teams, Shez just doesnt see it.....

I agree, we have seen far too many players come and go, we have not been settled for most of the season and what does it say to the likes of Eardley when a loanee comes in and takes your place in the team? I know we need people in to have cover, but why are playing a reserve player from another club instead of a first team regular?

It just feels like we have a team of journeymen rather than our own settled squad and we have Jones to come back and the lad from Chelsea to accomodate. It's all getting very confusing as we now have six loan players.

Strange decisions to drop Fleming again and Maher, I just can't figure out the logic. I know we have to trust Sheridans judgement and I can't comment on a game when I'm not there. Everything about the team feels very uneasy at the moment and we won't be in the top six if this carries on.

  9. We need pace and power up front and that must mean Smalley or Alessandra alongside Hughes. I don't see how Windass could ever have been a foil for Hughes as they are both of a similar style. (Old and slow  )

Now we have seemingly boosted or options out wide, Sheridan should be looking at this in training. Tuesdays match may be too soon but it must be doable against Millwall. And I'd rather have Eardley in at right back than somebody else's reserve player. Just my opinion.

  10. Anthems are steeped in tradition and Mouldy Old Dough, like it, or not, is part of the Latics tradition. Bit like West Ham's 'Forever Blowing Bubbles'. It wouldn't do to play 'Mouldy..' when the players come out, I don't think there's anything wrong with playing the Bongo Song. It's upbeat, loud and has a anthem(ish) drum sound.

'Can't Take My Eyes Off You' was obviously picked because of the chorus "dah-da" bit which can be sung as a chant on its own and it's obvious that it's our fans that are singing it.

You will never please everybody, so why not just let it be? :)

  11. If we give Yeovil no respect, we will lose.

Maybe I should have said without giving them too much respect, in light of the fact that teams playing their first match with a new manager are generally regarded as surefire winners by some people. Sometimes, we defeat ourselves by 'talking up' the opposition too much. I'm just saying that we need to be ruthless and harbour no doubt as to our ability to beat Yeovil tomorrow.

  12. Looks like a right ****

    Looks alright to me.

If Chelsea are paying a large percentage wage-wise, then why not give him try? He could add that extra dimension and very probably terrify most of the defences in this league. Might just be the end for Lidds' cameos for the time being.

If it doesn't work, then back he goes. I've got a feeling in my water about this one.

  13. I'm not going for all this "first game in charge" hoodoo!

Yeovil's goal difference is -12, ours is +12

Yeovil are in 17th, we are in 5th

Says it all, really. We should go there with the attitude of winning the game and not paying Yeovil any respect at all.

We have the better players, the experienced front line and strong defence. It is there for the taking.

    Don't mess it up, please!
