  1. Understand your point, but I think at 8 months difference between the two you are pushing the older bit  - Gunter 7/89, Eards 11/88

They are showing no signs of, rejecting a the lashers bid. Think we need to put a bit of faith that they are much more aware of the value of the assets in the current market place than we are. Overrated - I don't agree no-one on here is claiming they are multi-million pound footballers - probably only just 1 between them. We just happen to be the ones seeing them week in week out and remembering each and every thing wrong.

In a general context (forgetting it's Eards or Taylor for a sec) in the current day market a 19 rb,wb poss cm with 2 years plus contract remaining, over 100 first team appearances, captained the side and with 7 international caps and several U-21 caps...(micah???)

and 21 year old winger/mid l/r/c pace, 2 years plus remaining on contract over 100 first team apps, rough diamond??? possible biding war in the offing.

Wingers are generally always worth more than defenders which automatically boosts the Taylor value (whether you agree with it or not). I seriously think that TTA will be looking for anywhere from £1m+ combined. Wouldn't be suprised if £750k for either is enough to see them on their way.

Having said all that a player is only 'worth' what a buying club is prepared to pay, so talking values is always going to be speculative.

Good post fella - spot on - i'm no Football chairman, and as has been said on this very thread, it's very easy to post on here what a good price is, without the pressure & drain of actually bankrolling the football club BUT, in the current transfer market, we need to be holding out for the best possible deal for both of these lads (if we are looking at cashing in at all.)

Paltry (in the current climate) bids of less than 400k for either should be dismissed with the disdain they deserve by TTA, we need to be looking at 750k - 1million for Taylor for him to leave & 1million - 1.5million for Eardley to leave us.

We are in no rush; contract wise to sell as both are long term contracts, so the quick Trotman sale doesn't apply to these two - and i fear a big, big backlash for thre club if they do sell 1 or both for a 'poor' fee - when all the noises coming out of the club from the management team are that we building for a big promotion push.

  2. He would probably do a better job with both his legs tied together and his nads in his gob.

    KtF,

    Derek.

My good god, has Taylor sh**ged your wife or something Derek?? - i'v never been witness to such one sided, petty sniping against a player EVER. I realise that people are entitled to thier own opinions, and people do see quality where others see gash BUT, on every sensible thread involving discussions around Chris Taylor, you hyjack it with immature & silly comments that show you in a poor light.

Whether it be a thread intending to discuss the relative merits of Taylor playing on the right or left of midfield / whether the transfer rumours are true & if so, what is a realistic transfer fee we could expect for him / should we even consider selling him at all......etc we are subjected to your drivell when you post one sentence replied like "Taylors crap, my nan could play better" "i'd accept a packet of sweets and a donkey ride for him" "get rid, i'll drive him myself" etc

I would; for once, like a reasoned debate with fellow Latics fans on this subject matter without you & your petty, immature & one sided arsey comments stopping the deates & dragging them off into other areas - we get it, you don't rate Taylor, we know, we've read your drivell on him before, alot. Give it rest now please, and stop being such a 5 year old on the matter, as i'm led to believe that you are a grown man - start acting like one please

    rant over

  3. Speculation on the rarely wrong Chron's part based on the basic fee for Trotman.

Exactly. Guess-work journalism at its worst.

Trotman played around 20 first team games for us, CT has over 100 and has started to add goals to his locker; as well as improving in other areas of his game. Although the likes of Derek will sell for a bag of sweets, the overwhelming majority of Latcis fans realise CT's true worth to the team & the potential he has in the game.

As i 've stated in other posted, if we have to accept bids for him and decide to let him talk to other clubs re: a move away from BP, i'd hope & expect the figures we a re talking about will be in the 750k upwards region, any less than that and we've had our pants well & truly pulled down.

  4. We'll i'd be surprised if CT's dad was a flippant as that, blurting out that CT is off to Donny. Met him on a few occasions at away games, and it strikes me that he just isn't the type to be so matter of fact about his son's 'possible' transfer.

As for CT being sold, IMO it would be extremlely foolish of the club to sell one of its best players, right in midst of them (the club) building a side capable of gaining promotion from this league. Unless it is "silly money" as managers & chairman like to say, and by 'silly' - i would be talking around £1milion to 1.5million for Taylor - then i wouldn't even entertain the notion of selling CT, he is that valuable of player to us that IMO he has to stay.

Anyway, these ' my mate's mate best friends with a bloke who once was stood next to a bloke who ages ago met a bloke who know's Chris Taylor's Dad' stories are what they are, pure conjection AND rumourmongoring (spl!)

  5. If we do sign him I think he will be a great player for us but I don't think we will as he showed some decent quality at Sheff United (where I'm fairly certain he had a part in the balloon gate goal  ) and I'd be surprised if United were to let him come down to our level having shown that he has a bit more potential than that. If he is loaned out at all (Giggsy isn't getting any younger) I'd imagine it would be to a championship/lower level premiership team as opposed to us.

Likewise for me - be very surprised if he dropped to league 1 level after having played SPL & Championship - but i'd love it if its true....it would be a top signing..

Also, on the Caruso (spl!) post from earlier in the week, he mentioned a permanent signing from Man Utd, but that other clubs were interested too - any chance that it could be Luke Chadwick?? Anyone heard anything??

  6.

This is indeed the man who the Donny chairman said would stick another 1000 on the gates as he was that good a player..........well........

In the Donny games last season, and in the Yeovil game at BP when he was on laon, he flattered to deceive, he looked like he had a decent touch, looked pacey (ish) BUT, he also looked a tart (white boots / bleached blonde hair / wrist sweat bands etc) and he went to ground far too easily.

He's still young, i guess has the potential BUT i would wager they (Donny) would want a large fee for him if he were to leave, i'd guess we are talking a tad out of our budget, as i think hey'd want £300k + for him, and i think that kinda money is better spent elsewhere & on different players......

As usual we'll wait and see..... :D

  7. Are you sure? My understanding was that Shez told him he could leave if an offer came in for him... I don't recall any confirmation that we'd paid him off or cancelled the remaining year of his contract.

That's my understanding too, if a club expresses an interest, then he is free to talk to them, with a view to leaving on a free (prob with stipulations attached in regards future transfer fee's etc).

But, at the moment, he is still a contracted Latics player, so if no-one comes in for him, he will be reporting for pre-season training with the rest of them in a couple of weeks time

  8. We managed to beat off the mighty Crewe?

My God-they're nearly as big as Doncaster!

    Who are absolutely massive.

How did i know you'd pick out that CJ - wow, here comes the old stuff again......face facts, Donny ARE bigger than us NOW(!) - they have more backing; both in terms of fianance & support, a brand new stadium and Championship football.

And yeah, beating Crewe, or Dundee United, or Preston, or Millwall or whoever to sign player is a big pat on the back for the club, coz i'd rather we beat them to signings than miss out on players, simple as

  9. All are good signings and if a good creative midflelder can be brought in fans should be delighted, this is looking like a side Joe bulit in the 90s, a mix of promising youngsters and experience.

That's what i've been thinking - for every Crossly, we now have a Flemming / for every Liddell we have a Smalley / for every Hughes we have an O'Grady or Lewis / for Allott, we have Keiron Lee.......it's taking shape isn't it??

  10. TBH the club can't do right for doing wrong.

What beggars belief is some of our fans, they want to know all the in's and out's of transfers before they have even happened then when a slight hitch occurs they are up in arms.

Then when the signing is complete, he is not good enough or not a big enough name.

We are a League 1 club some people need to understand that players like Lampard and Rooney are very unlikely to come here.

Well said Hometown - the last day has actually been quite amusing really, as some of our fans really are complete dillweeds aren't they?

Last season 'they' complained about our transfer dealings, poor signings; not getting in there early enough etc - this year, we've hit the ground running; been pro-active, 'aggresive' as Tommy W has said, and IMO brought in 3 young & promising additions to the playing side......AND SOME ABSOLUTE DOUGHNUTS STILL MOAN!!!!

Honestly, i don't know what the club would have to do to please some - free season tickets for moaners? sign Joe Cole to solve our left side issue (oh wait, he'd be slated as a right footer being played out of position, sorry!)? Bring in Sven as our new manager?? FFS, we are a little 3rd division team in the NW of England, who; like it or lump it, can't compete with the likes of Leeds, Donny et all for transfers, due in no small part to the fact that we get gates of 4,500!

The new signings, and O'Grady is definately included in this, are IMO (and that of seasoned football watchers like BP1960) really good league 1 signings, especially for a small club like ourselves - beating off competiion from the likes of QPR, Preston, Crewe, Millwall etc. I say well done Shez, Tommy & TTA, i for1 am very pleased with this pre-season's dealing so far, long may it continue guys.....

    rant over!!!!

  11. How many times has this happened? I can only think of deadline day, yesterday, possibly when we signed Wes and I can't remember if Clive's disappearing act made it to the website. These are few and far between.

Either way, no one died, we signed the player concerned, the club got more click revenue.

Storm & tea-cup for me..........i would prefer it not being released untill its all done and dusted; just to stop the rarely wrong chron messing it up! But, i do like being kept in the loop, so for me, yesterdays business was all fine & dandy.....and lets not forget te important issue of it all.......

We signed a promisong young striker for a decent (i'd imagine £50k) fee, and the squad is taking shape for next season.......some people just love to moan for the sake of it IMO!!

  12. Obviously the automatic reaction from most would like to see us signing a Clarke or a Constantine type, but alot of us are always saying why not chance on those from lower leagues (yes, only one division lower i know) but why not give the lad a chance, and he might end up like plenty of strikers have done from league two or lower, and be successful in this league.

If it is him, of course.

Think thats exactly right - worth a punt by all accounts. Typical Latics fans, already on the lads back and he hasn't even kicked a ball in anger yet!!

Yeah sure, i'd have prefered a 'bigger name' too, but at least we (the club) are taking a gamble - we did it with Porter an look how he turned out goals wise, and we've appeared to done it again with this lad......i'll give him the backing he might need, as a the 3rd / 4th striker i think he's not a bad shout at all......

  13. Just a couple of thoughts regarding some of the comments here:

    1) Where does he want to play? I can see an argument to play him on the right because he is predominantly right footed. But I can also see a bit of Joe Cole in him insofar that he may prefer to play left so he can cut inside and shoot with his right foot.

    2) To all the Taylor detractors! Why, during the season, did nearly every team that we came up against quickly double up defenders when Taylor got the ball? Would it be because the opposition see him as a threat? Not everything he does works out but he does make things happen. He pulls defenders/midfielders out of position, works hard and scores his share of goals. If I do have a criticism, it would be that he goes down too easily!!!

And finally - DON'T SELL HIM.

    KEEP THE FAITH

    THE VOICE OF REASON!!!!

My sentiments exactly, why would we want to sell one of our best players, for a paultry 500k or less, when that money will not go back in to the side for transfers - lunacy i tell thee!

Taylor for me is going nowwhere, shez rates him, tommy rates him, they've invested alot of time & effort working with him to improve him as a footballer, to then sell him when all the noises coming out of the club are that of aggresive transfer policys (coming in, not going out!), building for a massive promotion push etc......selling doesn't make sense, and IMO it just will not happen!

Oh and Derek, watch the game next time Taylor plays for us - yes he tries things that sometimes don't come off, but try plying your trade with 3 people trying to stop you every step of the way, thats what young Chris has had to deal with this season, 2 or 3 opposition players surrounding him, but yeah, they'd do that to a sh1te player wouldn't they?? Beggers belief sometimes our 'fans' do......

  14. It is easy to read too much into this (ie he will leave if we stay down).

He says he will definitely stay if we get promoted and he would love to get Oldham into The Championship and them establish them there. He never says "that's it" though if we stay down this Season. In fact, he talks about West Brom, the Team he idolises and the interviewer asks if he would return there. His answer is "no, I owe the people at Oldham too much."

Add to that the fact he is happy in Saddleworth, loves the fans for their reaction to him; has never enjoyed training as much; thinks the manager is fantastic; believes the Youth set-up is excellent and says the players are a great bunch of lads and the omens look good in my opinion.

It is a very good interview and he comes across extremely well. It also says an awful lot of good things about the Club; management and playing staff - particularly the senior leaders like Gregan; Liddell and Hazell. It also perhaps kills a few myths about the training regime and assorted bust ups!

From what I hear, next Season, the players will be expected to work hard in the afternoons on fitness and other issues. Currently, they only train in the mornings generally. The new Physio is really planning to make his mark by all accounts and again, that is something that Hughes touches upon as a real positive about Latics.

I picked that bit up as the most interesting point in the interview, along the line of ' the physio is a good lad and he has some great new ideas for training'........

All pretty positive stuff from Huuuuughesy, came across pretty well.

ALSO A BIG WELL DONE to ChannelM for the interview, no same old same old questions about the crash / his time inside etc....just football related questions like interviews with LH should be now, the time has past for all those questions & issues to be asked again.

  15. I can't see him coming back personally - nor, if i'm honest, do i really want him back. I think 2 yard dogs in midfield (we have one already in Ratman) are the way to go in this division, with 2 pacey wingers & and 2/3 strikers to provide the creativity. So, i'd be more inclined to go all out for a Livermore / Jarrett than break the bank to bring back Wellens (and that assuming he'd want to come back too!)

  16. [quote Hopefully a move to the RRE wil finally get a bit of noise at BP even for the lesser games!

    Exactly here is to hoping.

That's been the debate for me & my mate - keep our side on view / player banter seats by switching to the Main Stand Paddock OR....

Rocky End, and try and get near the singers & satrt an atmosphere (or try to!)......thanks for starting a post like this ROAM, as we didn't have a clue where to ask for our seats for next season.........

  17. He has been fired off by Villa after advising Gareth Barry to join Liverpool, do you think we will try and sign him again or after last season's fiasco we will stay well clear.

Can't see him droping 2 divisions TBH, and wages would be a problem too i would imagine.....but you never know do you, doubt it'll happen though

  18. Was sent this link by a friend...many thanks Colin!

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KjfNfndi-30

Well played to all those involved and to the vid-maker. Done a great job.

I wondered what part, if any, Ernie would be taking in the games for obvious reason. That video answers it then, he'll lead out his team, kick off the game & then make way........good on him for taking the Penalty at the end, good finish, shame about the fall over though, i'd blame the shoes!!!! :D

  19. Although i would like both Livermore and jarrett to sign for us next season i cant see us affording both. Which out of the two would you like to see in a latics shirt next season.

If it's the JJ who turned up and played vs Hudd's, then without doubt it's him for me!

  20. RIGHT, it's confession time guys & gals - i'm sorry to say that JARKO SWEETLEFTFOOTOVIC doesn't exist.

Shock horror i know, but alas it's true.

I made up the name in keeping with the clubs new policy of made up names at reserve level (Diaz, Jesus, Bergmann, Danny KNight!!!!) - to protect the true identity of the player & stop stealing little mitts from Donny or Leeds getting their hands on our new Pole.

I can hearby announce that our new Polish player, LM / LW is...................

    Slobadan Djmyleftfootisokbuti'llprobablyendupplayingontherightanywaysochristaylorcanstayontheleftovic.

Sorry for any confusion regarding this matter, i hope all is now clear.

I'm off to start saving so i can have Slobadan's full name on my Flo Yellow top next season, Thanks :D

  21. I really don't see how people have such confidence in Crossley.

When he's been injury free, he's looked a solid keeper at this level - i'll admit he does, on occassion, looka tad slow, but this -fo me- is outwayed by his experience, his leardership of the back line & his off-field influence in the dressing room.

Its a solid signing, i'm happy enough for him to have another year - but we need 1 of these option to go hand in hand:

A young perm signing, to come in a no 2 initially, work with crossley on the training pitch, and ultimatley become the successor & new no1 keeper (lad from Gretna has been mooted, but others are out there too)A season long loan to be back up, as (a) doubt Crossley will stay injury free & (b.) i always feel that anything less than a long term loan for a keeper is pointless, as we saw last term with 7 or 8 different keepers being named over the season

Guess we'll see though what Shez has planned ver the coming weeks, as people say, there are lots of players out of contract this summer, sure we could strike gold with some!!

  22. Judging from the amount of Polish workers there are over here, I doubt that is true! Hell... I suppose its as per the norm, Poles are well known for coming over here and working very hard in jobs the Britsh dont want to do - Playing for Latics would definitely suit then!

So that's it then - our left side midfielder solved, as no bugger else wants it!!!!

Jarko Sweetleftfootovic on the left and Taylor on the right, sorted!!!

  23. Wotton among five to leave Argyle

Wotton made his Argyle debut as a 17-year-old in 1995 (Getty)

Club captain Paul Wotton is among five senior players set to leave Plymouth when their deals expire this summer.

The 30-year-old has played 439 games for Argyle, and captained his only club to two promotions in 2002 and 2004.

Striker Nick Chadwick, 25, will also be released, along with veterans Lilian Nalis and Lee Hodges.

Goalkeepers Luke McCormick and Romain Larrieu have signed extended deals, but full-back Paul Connolly is set to leave after refusing a new contract.

Youngsters Reuben Reid and Jake Moult are also set to depart after not being offered new deals.

I have never worked with a more dedicated or honest footballer

    Paul Sturrock on Paul Wotton

Speaking to the club's website, manager Paul Sturrock said his decision not to offer a new contract to Wotton was taken after a lot of soul-searching.

"He was in the first Argyle side I ever picked, for an FA Cup-tie at Chester in 2000, and the fact that he was the last-man standing from that team - eight years and three divisions later - speaks volumes for the man," said Sturrock.

"I can honestly say that I have never worked with a more dedicated or honest footballer. His commitment to his profession should be held up as an example to anyone who wants to play the game.

"I toyed with offering him a short-term contract, but, in the end, I felt that would have been an insult to someone who has played nearly 450 games for the club. I have too much respect for him to do that.

"He may prove my judgment wrong - and that wouldn't be a first for him - and come back to bite us on the bum, but managers are paid to make big calls, however tough, and I have made mine."

I'd go along with that, wages and all allowing - would give the experience we've lacked at times this season, and from memory (and football manager) i think he can operate from CB / RB & DM:CM - would be like signing 4 players in 1!!

Chadwick might be worth a punt too - lost his way slightly since leaving Everton, but still only 25, and has scored goals in the Prem & Champ???
