  1. Haha as if a sheep shagger is trying to insult us. Look at what we have and what we have had for a number of years and look at the position you have been in!!! You have been far more fortunate than us, and most others in this league.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but your still in this 'rubbish' league with all the 'rubbish' clubs after all them ££££'s you have spent.

If Oldham had that money I'm sure it would of been put to better use. Your still 'FIGHTING' for promotion even though you have had all this £££.

Your a cock and your clubs full of cocks and if you do go up, then at least I don't have to visit the Gayfarm to watch a load of million dollar faggots roll around and cry for a foul.

Good luck for the rest of the season.......scratch that, I hope you go bust and everything goes tits up.

To be honest it was our players who were rolling around most of the time, bit embarrasing to be honest.

However that Lee is a waste of space. If Hudds Town have to have him up front it's no wonder the sheep shaggers are struggling.

  2. Sheff Utd may have to sell some players in the summer but they will also be able to attract better players in as well. Can't wait to play them next season!

Why are Sheff Utd in such a mess? Whatever happened to that money that West Ham were going to pay them as a consequence of the Tevez affair a few years back?

  3. ok....light years ahead of us???? seriously????? that would be why we are in the same league then wouldnt it......they seem to have as much ability at getting promoted as we have...

fact...before they celebrated there 100 year or summat there attendances were poor...they gave discounted season tickets and got a full house, only being able to do this with the backing of a wealthy fan...bradford did exactly the same thing and now back at fullish price there back to normal....

if you want to see something light years ahead of latics i suggest you go out in the garden at night with a telescope...

Did I say they were light years ahead of us?

Their attendances were pretty impressive before they had their centenary season discount, and their prices have been back to normal for the last few seasons. I've been told that they averaged over 10k when they were in the 4th div a few years back before their new chairman turned up.

I'm not dissing Oldham, but yesterday was a real eye opener as the original poster said.

Right I'm off to get me tin hat.

    :peepwall:

  4. Yes, according to posts further up the thread, and you can blink all you like newby.

Sorry if being a newby precludes me from comment.

I know it's been a tough time as a latics fan not just this year but for many years now.

Latics fans are a precious, and dying species tbh. The original poster got it right when he said we seem to be decades behind Huddersfield. I am sceptical about claims that Huddersfield's attendances are based on free tickets. I've looked at their website, went to the match yesterday and saw no evidence that their is support is swelled by these mystical free tickets handed out by their uber generous chairman.

A lot of posters seem jaded on this website, and I can understand their feelings. Anyways, we seem to be doing OK on the pitch at the moment. Long may it continue.

  5. id say were slightly different in as much as they dont have any premier league teams around them....where as we do and there within a short travelling distance..which does make a difference...

and the fact there owner is a rich fan,and ours arent....

Can't see how encouraging local kids to attend cheaply is anything to do with having a rich chairman. If the kids don't come we get nothing and they'll likely have a future ahead of them as a Man City/Man U fan. If we give them cheap tickets we'll get a few bob, a few less empty seats and a few potential lifelong latics fans.

  6. Yep, all we need is that rich benefactor and everything will be hunky dory, we could have a new stadium, give tickets away for free, pay nearly a million pounds for players etc etc etc.

Yep, just need to find that mega rich owner and we'll be just like Uddersfield.

    Err

Read the posts above yours I think they make valid points.

Do Huddersfield give tickets awy free. Do they really?

  7. Just a thought like, but it might be something to do with having a rich benefactor signing cheques for them on a weekly basis to allow these fantastic facilities etc etc etc.

The crowds are also massively artificially inflated by giving season tickets away for next to nothing.

Not exactly a level playing field is it?

From my knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong, but they had that cheap season deal a few years back to celebrate their centenary. They're back to normal prices now.

What impressed me was their family stand. They'd sold tickets cheaply to local schools encouraging youngster to support them rather than the usual premiership teams.

Do we do anything like that?

If no then we should look into it.

  8. The Giants only own more than Town do because the shares were stolen from us when we went bust. Personally, I'd like to see us move away from the ground until the Giants go bust; then they can play there on our terms, or find elsehwere.

As for the council, we would own the majority of shares in our ground (at great expense to our chairman) again, if our council hadn't moved the goalposts on a deal stemming back to the opening of the ground.

As said before, Jarvis is the key. It's not about matching us; I'd struggle to think of any club that has been starved of success for so long that can match our crowds; it's about dragging everyone in that you can... weren't you scraping the odd >10,000 attendance a couple of seasons ago?

I think it's time we and Hudds stopped moaning about each other. At the end of the day I rate both sets of fans highly. They/we support their/our local teams and aren't plastic premiership watching 'fans'.

It'd be nice if both we and Hudds go up this season.

  9. Spot on although Rubes was lucky to stay on when yanking their forward down 1st half which was about the only time the ref didn't give them a free kick.

When we played it on the ground they looked very vunerable at the back and we created our best chances like that.

What was disappointing was their CH was a very clumsy oaf who had the turning capacity of the QE2 yet we didn't once try to exploit it. They would have struggled with balls down the channels for Reid & Tounkare to chase but

we just kept flinging high balls up front and he stood there all day heading them out thinking it must be my birthday !!

They are a poor side though and just play for corners and free kicks .

Good point but could have done better.

They haven't lost this year yet. So I'd clas them as one of the league's better sides.

Today was a cracking result for us.

  10. Just got back- few points

1.) Didn't rate the ref at all- he gave some very soft free kicks but didn't punish some bad challenges well enough. The bloke who went off, Lee I think, went down as if he'd been pole-axed about 4 or 5 times he'd have been lucky to get 1 or 2 free-kicks with some refs. Reid was lucky to stay on, just been booked for a cynical push and then handles it in their area, but some of their players could also have been sent-off on a different day

2.) Taylor is not a central-midfielder, against decent opposition. It took him about 20 minutes to have a meaningful touch. Maybe i'm being a bit harsh but when they had Kevin Kilbane sitting in front of their back 4 he was going to struggle. His injury didn't look good either, could well be doubtful for next Saturday, nevermind Tuesday. Yet, it could be worse as it looked like he thought he might have done something more serious than that as he went off.

3.) 1946 Oldham fans- doubt it that stand holds 3000+ and there weren't 1000 empty seats. Even accounting for the cordoning of of the back 4 or 5 rows- which seemed stupid and this was rightly pointed out by a pair of Latics fans when asked to move by a steward, the cops let them sit on the back row.

4.) Both teams looked quite shaky at the back, think a draw would have been a fair result but overall they were probably the slightly better side. Good point though.

Think our MOM was probably Lee- though some honourable mentions to Furman, White, Morais and Amos. The others had good spells and bad spells, especially our two centre-halfs, there were at least 2 heart-in-mouth moments.

Hate to say it but I think the attendance figure was spot on. I was in one of the exec boxes in their family stand and the stand looked half full. Considering the ridiculous prices though it was a decent turn out.

  11. Reason we have fewer fans than Huddersfield is our proximity to Manchester. As I walked to the game today I saw at least a dozen people wearing Man U kits.

If we're honest we'll never have great support because of all the glory hunters in our town who take the easy option by going to Old Trafford.

  12. Crikey, I'm knew to this internet mularkey and didn't realise it was so competitive.

All I can say is that our support today was brilliant, and I'm determined to go on more away trips. Having said that Huddersfield's away support has always been pretty good from what I've seen. I remember them in the cup last year and they were phenomenal, having said that it was funny to see them knocked out in the next round despite their boasts about going to Wemberlee.

Anyway, I'm going to have a hot chocolate and retire to my bed.

    Toodle pip.
