  1. When we look back over the various false starts we've had with redevelopment plans, does anybody honestly think Failsworth was the best? Our best option, given the lack of viable sites elsewhere, always has been the redevelopment of Boundary Park. Rather than going through appeals and legal and political minefields to try to resurrect Failsworth, why don't we concentrate our efforts on working out what it would take to stay at BP. Yes there's a huge financial hole to plug, but surely, since Blitz and Gazaal effectively pulled out, that's the case whatever we do?

The problem is we have already layed out millions of pounds, we would suffer a loss on that plus what it would cost to redevelop boundary park,

we would be in the same position, we wouldnt be self sufficient

  2. We don't even need to begin the appeals process, just let the council know in no uncertain terms that they must resubmit their application to transfer the land and to be much more meticulous and transparent in their information provision to the CC. Then if it's rejected and the council has done everything properly THEN we can appeal depending on whether we have er ahem 'grounds' to do so. The council hired a top barrister who ensured them the CC was the route to go - either he has advised them wrongly or the council has not taken on board his advice properly...

Thats what was mentioned when I spoke to the council, they will re submit the application with the points which were missed off. We will then come to an appeal if this is not succesful

  3. After reading the statement on OAFC official board I sent the following email to my local councillors Bashforth and Harrison:

    "Councillors,

I write regarding today’s ruling by the Charity Commission with regards to the Charitable Land Swap in Failsworth.

I quote from a council statement: “Oldham Council has expressed ‘disappointment’ at a new ruling from the Charity Commission”.

    Disappointment, disa-flipping-ppointment.

Disappointment is not a word I am using for this decision. Disgusting is the clean one that I will share with you. This ruling nigh on kills off Oldham Athletic Football Club and I fear that Oldham’s last remaining professional sporting club will cease to exist in the very near future, and go the same way as the Oldham Roughyeds have had to go in becoming semi professional after being stitched up by Oldham Council.

Does Oldham Council actually comprehend how important a role Oldham Athletic is to the awareness of the town by rest of the country. Every other week hundreds (sometimes thousands) of visitors come to our town purely because they are following their team to Oldham. They spend disposable income in our town! Not just at the football club but in the bars and pubs around the ground, in the newsagents getting their snacks for at the game, in the nightclubs and hotels if their trip involves an overnight stop! Do they even care!!! I fear not.

The plan to swap the charitable land I believe was hatched by the council. They were confident that this would be a successful way to move the planning issues forward. Now this has failed, and I would like to know whether the failure was due to ignorance, negligence, or incompetence of our council officials. Which is it please?

What are the people of Oldham paying for through their taxes. Is this to be another high profile failure of our elected officials as in the Vance Miller fiasco. Who’s head will roll for this one. Nobody’s I suspect!

Can you urgently find out what moves Oldham council are planning to take on this issue. Is an appeal process an option, or can the charitable swap planned be amended as in any other planning application and re-submitted?"

I have since received the following from Councillor Bashforth:

    Dear Sir,

I cannot agree with you more on how badly this affair has been run, indeed although I have not yet had sight of the Charity Commission's report, I do understand that it is highly critical of the way Oldham council's Lib Dem/Conservative ruling group conducted themselves throughout the process.

The importance of a viable well attended football club is not lost on the Oldham Labour Group who have pledged real support for the club when they are in a position to do so and the leader of our group has been, and remains in very close contact with directors of the club.

I don't believe there is any appeal process here and that the decision is final. The only alternative would be for the club to stay at Boundary Park or seek a new site (which I believe to be OAFC's preference) and I do understand other sites are now being looked at and considered at, but am not privy to the details, which would in any case be highly confidential at this stage.

As with the Vance Miller case, this will be a another high profile, expensive failure for Oldham council's Lib Dem/Conservative ruling group and it may be that resignations would be in order!

    Regards

Councillor Steven Bashforth (Royton South Ward)

It sounds very much like another council cock up to me!!!!!! :disappointed:

    This is very depressing!

    KTF

I have spoken to Mark Preswich who is looking at this from the council, there are grounds for an appeal and that the charity commission are only going off the information which was provided to them

  4. The answer is to build on the Clegg Street warehouse site, refurbish the warehouse as an hotel and relocate Matalan.

    Perfect for the Metrolink too.

Planning permission there would be no problem I imagine.

Another soloution would be for Rochdale and Latics to build a joint stadium on Kingsway, I know there are Football league rules about clubs playing outside town boundaries, but surely the FL would see the sense is this if it meant both clubs could have a secure future.

Its not going to happen as the failsworth project not dead yet, the club have spent near on 5millon pounds to get where we are now

  5.

Just spoke to Mark Prestwich of Oldham council,

He said that the coucil are 100% still behind the staduim move and are hopeful this can be sorted out soon, there are a number of options which have already been mentioned ie appeal, or to just tweak the original submittial.

They are speaking to latics (simon and Alan) nearly every hour to try to resolve the issues, and as this has dragged on for some time and this matter is a priority.

A number of other options were looked at for the stadium location but there were obsticles with all of them. Failsworth was seen to be the best option.

If any one has any questions I got his email address mark.prestwich@oldham.gov.uk

  6. Start an OWTB fund to raise money for legal investigation into the councils role in this to establish whether the fans can sue the council. Appoint a committee to represent the fans in the matter (members of OWTB). If it has any chance of getting anywhere contact all major media outlets ie: local-national newspapers, radio, tv etc to get a high profile coverage of the farce.

    ????

Just spoke to the council regarding some more information on the whole situation, just awaitnig a phone call back as apparently the person who I needed to speak to was on the other line.

  7. The effort was lacking which is not normal as they all usually bust a gut< dont want to pick anyone out aqs they was all poor but stephens in the last 2 games seems to pull out of challenges and looks lost when the ball comes to him, Tayls needs to park back on the wing he just is not a striker and Black is getting torn apart at left back not wanting to slag but feel ab gutted tonight just cant beleive it!!

Same here just felt we lacked any effort tonight, lazy on the ball and lazy off it, I can take a defeat if I see the effort has been put in but I did not see much tonight

  8. We started on the backfoot and got progressively worse - surely after conceding 12 goals in 3 games losing 3 out of 4 and only 1 in 6 the manager has to shake things up both in midfield and attack and we defo need a new LB young Blacky was ripped a new arsehole tonight and has been shaky for weeks?

We did start on the backfoot, gave them far to much respect, I agree the midfield needs shaking up but who do we put in there? I think stephens needs a rest was poor again tonigh in my opinion, and im not sure who we can put up front who is going to get the goals we need

  9. sometimes you simply have to hold your hands up and accept it when you get ripped a new one. Perhaps if we'd been right in their faces from the off we might have competed. Instead we opted to ball watch and slip on our arses a lot and not touch the ball before they scored the first. From then on despite a bit of huff and puffing we were outclassed all over the field and tbh given their budget so they should. Still a reet tonking though and this is Dicky's first real test now - sometimes you can be too attacking and I think we'd benefit from bringing Lewi (when fit) and Jones back into the left and right midfield spots just to enable us to tighten up. The strikers need a shake up too, Tonk has been poor imo since the break so let's shake it up a bit just to try and get that impetus back.

I'm a bit worried now, young players' confidence is fragile they'll need picking up and quick because a tonking like tonight could be season changing BUT Southampton are a one-off at this level and a team of giants and you only have to look at their bench.

I can take a defeat when, I can see the players giving 100%, where has all the runnig about gone we seem to be just waiting for teams to give the ball to us and not go to win it, Im just now waitng for the club to come out and say support is needed but when crap like that is served up people wont come to boundary park it hard enough to get people in when we are winn :disappointed:

  10. Jones left Hartlepool because they kept playing him out of position, he made it known and asked for a transfer because he wanted to play centre mid. Oldham signed him as a central midfielder and he is playing out of position on the right hand side. His first game in centre mid this season was last saturday and we won 1-0 so why change a winning team?????

But if you all want a scapegoat, blaming Jones for tripping the player for a penalty, blaming Jones for losing the ball just outside the penalty area when it was Taylor and blaming Jones for not clearing the corner from the opposite side of the pitch.

Why wasn't Jones put on in the centre of midfield - I will tell you why because the 2 players in there are undroppable regardless of how they play !!!!!

You can see there is no effort coming from him, I dont care if he is playing out of position he gets paid every week, and should try his best what ever position the manager puts him in, but he just cant seem to do this,

Changed a winning team because firman is a much better player than jones

  11. bollocks if you want a scapegoat blame the manager i was certain when alessandra was coming on it would be for winchester his legs had gone and he was being torn to pieces, he could have dropped furman back or evina big tactical mistake, blaming a player who has spent most of the season out of his natural position is just nonsense

If he showed some effort I could understand shouldnt matter where you play, kieran lee is an example justs wants to be playing football right back is not his possition but he makes a real effort
