  1. Lol - does the fact he has more posts than the rest of the users in this thread combined not give you a clue he might just be a Latics fan who lives in (or near) Dale?!?

ha that leeds fan (spainboy??) has probably posted more times than me, i hope your not saying he is more of a latics fan than me haha :ranting:

  2. Q1 A. Oldham let one in with 2 mins on the clock. Do you..?

    a. Leave now. Latics WILL lose now.

    b. Go to stay, I'd paid my money.

    c. Stay, you never know, it's always possible.

Q2 When you used to watch Dr Who as a child, did you..?

    a.. Hide behind the settee.

    b. Watch it and try not to show you were a bit scared

    c. Look forward to the next episode excitedly

Q3 Latics fell off alarmingly at the end of the pervious season, so most spineless players had to go. Do you..?

a.. Panic, and walk round with an end of the world is nigh sandwich board?.

    b. Know it would need a bit of time before the team gelled.

    c. Stick by the team and sing your heart out for the lads despite a few mistakes in the early matches

Q4 Latics have announced plans for a new stadium, do you..?

    a. Run around with your arms flailing saying there is no ambition, and start a thread for every reason you can think of why we should not move.?

    b. Realise that although there are concerns, there are forums to address these, maybe write to AH and SC, but that the need to make Latics financially viable is of greatest importance.

    c. Let the people appointed get on with it.

Q5 Latics are still mid table at the start of Christmas, do you..?

a Rip up your season ticket, state you have been calling for the managers had since Neil Warnock was sacked, and start looking up self flagellation websites even when at work

    b. Hope that a couple of astute signings and moving on a couple of players kick starts the season

    c. Know that we will be top in May, n danger.

Q6 Latics had lost 2 games out of the fist 5. Do you..?

a Start signing up loads of Usernames on OWTB to start everyone thinking there is a wave of people calling for Penney’s head already and you are not in the minority thinking it.

    b. Expect that the manger knows who is working out and he will sign a few loans players , as he has a bit of a track record for loans, but also has a track record of getting teams amongst the ply off spots/

    c. Know that we will win the next 8 games on the trot, no problem.

Mostly 1's. Cbeebie. What a wuss. Childline is 0800 111. At least school holidays are nearly over.

Mostly 2.'s Norman Normal. Solid fan, but recognise there are good days and bad days.

Mostly 3's. The Harry Patch. Longevity is your watchword, and not giving in or giving up to the end.

  3. Which uni are you at? My son is aiming to do a Business/Sports degree, having just done his AS level. He's looking at Loughborough, Exeter or Sheffield. If you have any tips for him I would be greatful.

i go to leeds met mate, i do sports business management. its a really good course, you have to majority of lectures at Headingley Stadium, were the rhinos play and were the cricket is played so you get a good feel of how a club is run. most of the stuff i did in my 1st year was like marketing. were we had to hyperthetically plan an events for the day of a leeds carnegie rugby union match, a bit like celebration sunday for us to try and get more fans coming to the rugby club then we had to present it to our module leaders and the chief execuative (i think it was him anyway) of leeds carnegie. this year apart from the work experience module, i will be doing a module of football  . this i hope is really easy and all i have to do is watch football all day but knowing my luck it will be what length the grass should be on a football pitch and another one on mass media, were ive been told its on how the sports media controls society, which sound pretty good. my course is all coursework as well. i hope this has helped.

that all i can really think of at the minute and if you need any more information on the course just PM me of something and ill be more than happy to give more insight into it.

  4. The Oldham athletic sport in the community officer John Platt (ex oldham goalkeeper) helped me out for a 5 week work placement several years ago now! He seemed more than happy to have an extra pair of hands to help run football coaching sessions around local schools. Try and get hold of him!

Cheers mate but hopefully the thing with Colin Moore is a go-er, but cheers anyway

also cheers Sheridans_world for moving it to this forum, all the help off everyone is really appreciated

  5. Hi all,

need a bit of help, i will be starting my 2nd year at uni this sept doing a sports management degree and we have to find work experience for ourselves to do in jan for 3 weeks. havin tried latics and not getting a reply as well as being told i can't do it at city, united, sportscity etc. i was wonderting if any of my fellow latics fans had any ideas on were i could do it around the oldham/manchester area?? ideally somewhere in grassroots football as this is were i see myself after i get my degree.

    cheers for any help

  6. Can I refer you to the posting from Gordon Lawton? Of course everybody has a right to an opinion but please take on board his comments. You say that you've "said for a long time the merchandise is below par and overpriced". What was the response from the club? Did you put forward your suggestions to Alan Hardy?

    Hello everyone

Gordon here, you know the programme editor.

I have never answered any criticism before on any website..but thought I would on this occasion.

For information purposes, there are still 8 programmes left in the shop from Saturday and that was after selling some after the match..so the programmes did not sell out!

(what you really mean is the area nearest to you sold out)

Regarding no shiny cover (it's called lamination actually).I took a conscious decision not to have one for a number of reasons.

    1. It costs 20p per programme to have it laminated.

    2. The programme has to printed 24 hours earlier to have as you say a 'shiney cover'.

    3. A lot of work goes into producing the programme..for your information it contains over 23,000 words and close on 100 photos. One person writes and compiles it (me)

and it is a nightmare to keep up to date. No one complains (like you say) on a wet and dark winters night when we are left with 100's of programmes and pies unsold and the club loses money. The programme is produced to make your club money and to try and keep you informed with stories and articles regarding the players. Information can now be recieved much quicker via the internet so I try not to repeat it.

Last season I asked for some feedback and I thank the 8 fans who replied, and I have taken their views onboard. Obviously you were not one of them and you think the programme is of poor quality, that is your view and you are entitled to it, but let me finish with a few facts.

    1. The Oldham Athletic programme actually makes money unlike 42 other clubs who lose money.

    2. Latics programme has won 7 awards over the last 5 seasons.

    3. Everyone continually tries their best to provide the fans with entertainment, food, programmes etc and we try to be a caring family club and the staff are now beginning to get fed up with the continued criticism. We work long hours, sometimes 50-60 a week for little pay or thanks. We do this because it is our club, we want to 'cause we love Latics.

It is a great pity you do not feel the same way. It is time for the knocking to stop and the support for the club to begin.

Cheers Gordon for taking the time out to reply to everyone. I don't think anyone is questioning how hard you and the rest of the commerical department work, in my experience the programme is one of the best around, even including various england programmed that i have bought and is great value for money. my main worry is the customer service of the club. the programmes and pies etc. selling out is a very minor thing but it affects peoples match day experience and especially away fans, the merchandise in the club shop i found ok, nothing special but if it has the crest on its good for me and i will be going down in a few weeks the purchase a few things for decorate my house at uni.

one problem i have with your reply though if you don't mind me sayin is that the staff are getting fed up with the continued criticism. now i understand that criticism is annoyin but i would hope you and the club make the negatives into positives and think try to sort out all the criticisms to try and make the the fans happy.

  7.

I'm told that you can't buy a Chaddy The Owl now in the club shop and am hearing endless stories of punters being refused shirts having names printed on because the staff hasn't been there to do it. Theres a small selection of many, many commercial things that aren't right at the club and hasn't been for years. Although I have my differences over SJ, when he went he needed replacing. Never has been and the commercial side of the club is a joke...but hey, we'll all move to a new stadium and it'll all be alright...supposedly!!! It'd be very cyncial and unsupporting of me, supposedly, to suggest we'll recreate the same commerical rubbish on a grander scale 4 miles away!!! Worried? Youfookingbet!!!

last season i wasn't allowed to have windass 5 on my away shirt (although it turned out to be a good thing  ) because they was no one there to do it, i do feel at the time it was a bit unprofessional even though it wasn't the biggest deal and i didn't lose any sleep on it.

i think the club has gone down hill commerically wise a lot since sean jarvis left, when he was here the marketing and commerical department was very approachable and went out of there way to help the fans. now it seems the club don't really care about the fans and although i am sure thats not the case it doesn't help when your trying to get younger fans to support the club.

  8. typical oldham fan over the last few years - unfortunatley

so true is unbelievable, its not a coincidence that so many of these strikers who seem to be awful go on to have good careers at a higher level.

killen, burgess, cooper, adebola to name a few who have gone on to arguebly better levels and stayed there after being branded awful here.

i'm not saying that these players were any better than what we have here at the minute but it goes to show how you can't write off players without giving them a proper chance to show what they can do and calling byfield the worst latics player ever after 10 games, were for most of them he was infit and playing in a team on a bad run just shoes how clueless some of our fans really are.

and they must never have seen maheta malango play for us

  9. i think thats a freak result, im still backing Norwich to win the league

not with Gunn in charge. ceraitn people aren't meant to be managers, people like tony adams for example. bryan gunn is one of them. they need a new manager before they can think of challenging

watch now though, i bet they win the league and set a new points total with gunn in charge haha

  10. Why is everyone so against this post ?

i agree with him, byfield is crap. rather have kenny cooper upfront.

Kenny Cooper who is now one of the MLS's top strikers and getting linked to championship teams?

Honestly, I Dont Know What Any Of You Saw In That Preformance Today Apart From The Over Head Kick Which Was His Only Decent Bit Of Play. He Would Not Have A Run With The Ball, Always Looked For The Pass (Which Never Went To A Player In Blue!). Would Much Rather Have Ben Burgess Back!

the same ben burgess who scored today in the championship for blackpool?

a shame we cudn't afford either of them!

get a grip and give the lad a chance

  11. Good point.

Can't help feeling we've been shafted. Watched Boro v Sheff U last night and it mentioned how Yeates (whooo??) had just signed for Boro from Col U for £500K! Half a million.

How did they manage such a fee and surely we should've seeked similar for a young full international full back?

    E4e

    REKON

yeates was one of the best wingers in league 1 last season for colchester 500k for him is a bit cheap i think, it would be like selling taylor for 500k

i don't think we have been shafted, eardley was only worth what blackpool were willing to pay and what we were willing to accept (although if i was in charge i would have wanted a bit more money of blackpool or even a sell on clause?) so i think its fair business.

  12. Pawel Abbott? Keigan Parker? Oh wait, we've got two already...

Love them or loathe them we've COG, Brooke, Smalley and Taylor if needs be as back up for a striking spot.

Aside from Gregan and Hazell who's in reserve at CB? And more worrying, who's competing against that duck egg in nets?

I think that's why this whole Byfield situation is getting folks backs up. A reserve striker seems to be a priority ahead of the real problem areas of the team. We're only as good as our weakest link.

    E4e

    SIEVE

agree about needing a defender and a keeper more (and for all we know DP might do as well) but he also feels a striker is needed, and unless DP knows were the next billy sharp is then i am more than happy with byfield challenging abbott and parker for a starting spot

    Lee hughes :D

haha we weren't able to afford him :disappointed:

  13. This only proves that all three are

Maybe so, but dave penney is looking for a striker and out of them three byfield is the proven one.

can you or anyone else who dislikes byfield name another striker, who we can get on a free and who we can actually afford, who has a better goalscoring record than byfield?
