  1. Good post. Perhaps not completely feasible, but nice to hear positivity. Being a Middleton lad myself originally, I know full well this is an odd town, no other like it. Such talent and ability derives from the very place, but it no longer has identity and I know no Middletonian would admit to being a part of Rochdale. Perhaps Middleton, home of Oldham Athletic AFC with a little bit of history could be a good thing for the town and club. Certainly worth thinking about? I definitely think we could attract a few more fans in our direction, without alienating current fans too much (MK Dons style).

Thanks, funnily enough I too am an ex Middleton lad and I agree Middletonians would love to have the club associated with the town Oldham, and not Rochdale as you state.I'm also convinced that given time the crowds would increase too in this location.

  2. Great site. Would have massive potential in the area. Close to the motorway, railway and enough land for a first class stadium with a decent chance of getting new fans from the nearby areas. Just hope the stadium is along the lines of Hull City's ground or Huddersfield's Galpharm which have good design characteristics. One things for sure it must be looked at seriously and the sooner the better.

  3. According to the PFA updated players for sale site, Hazell is up for sale on a free. A bit of a surprise but cannot say personally that he will be missed that much, as I have always thought, especially when he was made captain, that he played over confident and made quite a few silly mistakes. Captaincy made him think he was bigger and better than the rest. Looks like he got too big for his boots.

  4. I have spoken with Tonks and he has no idea as to where he is going to be playing football next season. I for one hope he returns, especially now that we have another striker with height. He never let us down last season and like Evita and Mvoto when he played he at least gave 100%. Let's admit it he was our lone striker last year. I think having had most of last season with us, he will be a far better player this year.

  5. Cedric has not snubbed us, he just wants to be nearer his family, which you can understand being only 19 years of age. Good luck to him. Always gave 100% for the club and I hope he finds a southern club or a team in France where he can settle and show his undoudted talent.

  6. Taken 2 pay cuts and signed to prove his worth to the fans, having not exactly set the place alight last season. However P.D. states that we have not seen the best of Reid and that after pre season he will be a different player than we have seen so far. Got to admire the lad in proving his dedication to the club and I certainly hope he makes next season the best he has ever had. Just hope other players show as much commitment to Paul Dickov and the club.

  7. care to confirm to us that we should still all be 'sleeping easy' regarding a new ground and the future of the whole club???

Yes I would also be glad to hear something about the stadium situation, sooner rather than later. Please update as soon as possible for the sake of all true Latics fans.

  8. Played really well

Brill - Not much to do to be fair...solid though. 7/10

:censored: - Like him a lot...as good as Eardley if not better . Sign him up 7/10

Gregan - Superb. 7/10 - Few second half wobbles.

Hazell - Decent, couple of mistakes though. 6/10

Gilbert - Jacobsen needs to perform well if he's going to be better than this guy. Excellent 8/10

Holdsworth - Prob not best position but good game - 7/10

    Worthington - Solid as a rock 7/10

    Furman - Excellent. Classy performance - 8/10

Tayls - Quiet start but came into the game well..worries defences at his level - 7/10

Abbott - Very pleased when we signed this boy. Guaranteed 20 this seson. Class - 9/10

Parker - Good start, faded as game went on - more to come though -7/10

Thanks Richmondlatic for this information. Appears a fair report that you put together. As said by other fans I still feel we need a centre back to push Gregan and Hazell, although to be fair they are doing quite well at the moment. Still competition brings out the best in any side.

    Come on you blues.

  9. Great result, we don't get much down in that there London.

I expect it to be quiet on here, what will the doom & gloomers do with their evening?

Now if only one of those pens was given against County last week, they would have been hanging themseleves right now.

Yes should have won last week but we will play worse and win during the course of the season.

As you say a great win today and it would appear we gave a good account of ourselves having listened to he radio. Perhaps some of those people you mentioned above will now get off their backsides and support the team this season in more numbers.

Dave Penney seems very shrewd. I like the way he made use of the subs today and the lads seem to be showing a greater passion this season.

    Come on you blues.

  10. A bit off-topic here but I need the help of some fellow Latics fans. I am doing a project on defining different parts of Oldham. What I am trying to establish is how local people refer to the area they live in. While there are maps and Council wards etc., I am not sure that these relate to what local people call their area.

For example, Hill Stores is a well known area (I think) but doesn't appear on the A to Z or as a Council ward. On the other hand, there are places on the A to Z like Hanging Chadder that I've never heard of.

I have come up with the list below. I would be grateful if anyone could help me with it.

    Cheers!

  11. Thought the midfield looked promising both centre mids seemed willing to work and put a foot in and Furman found some decent passes in the 2nd half. Taylor we know about and Holdsworth did OK on the right wing tho he did dift inside a bit second half

Thought we did well considering the number of new faces and the fact it was the 1st game of the season. Taylor should have gone off earlier as he was struggling at half time with a groin injury.

I would say that we need a couple of wingers although Smalley would no doubt have played if fit.

Still there is a long way to go and I reckon we are on the right lines for a good season.

  12. Barry,

I will definitely be there. It's about time people in Oldham and surrounding areas get behind the club or it may come to no football team or rugby team for any fans to attend and watch.

I'm quite sure, as I said in an e-mail to the Oldham Chronicle, which they obviously refused to print, that those residents that refused the original plans for the stadium on Clayton Playing fields will be very happy when OLDHAM ATHLETIC move to a new stadium and they end up with a retail park in front of their houses.

Oldham Athletic fans get behind the club and tell these council and Failsworth residents that a football club brings money to the town and they should already know because when we were in the Premiership they sure got behind the club then.

P.S. --- I am Oldham born and bred and now live in Stockport but I will follow Latics until I die no matter where the ground is.
